I’m a Girl, He’s a Psycho, and This is Fine

Chapter 19: Chapter 8.2: A Broken Bed and a Cold Rejection

Somewhere in the middle of the night, she felt movement.

She opened her eyes and turned her head slightly.

Fu Yunshen was sitting up in bed, staring out the window.

His eyes were distant.

She watched him quietly, not speaking.

After a while, he lay back down.

The next morning, Shi Mo woke to an aching back and sore neck. The mat had been just as uncomfortable as she'd imagined.

She sat up slowly, stretched, and glanced toward Fu Yunshen's bed—empty.

He had already left.

She stood, brushed herself off, and looked down at the broken bed frame.

"Guess I'll be fixing that today."

After breakfast, she stopped by the school's maintenance office and reported the broken bed.

The staff promised to send someone in the afternoon. In the meantime, she was stuck on the floor again.

Later that day, during free period, Bei Ling stopped her in the hallway.

"You look like you haven't slept," she said with a smirk.

"I haven't," Shi Mo muttered.

"What happened?"

"My bed broke."

Bei Ling burst out laughing. "Already? What did you do, jump on it?"

"I sat down."

"You weigh, what, 45 kilograms? You must've inherited cursed luck or something."

Shi Mo grinned wryly.

"You can crash in my dorm if you want," Bei Ling offered.

Shi Mo shook her head. "Appreciate it, but I'm good."

Bei Ling gave her a long look. "You really don't like relying on people, do you?"

Shi Mo smiled faintly. "I don't have the habit."

Bei Ling nudged her. "Well, you should start. Yingnan isn't the kind of place you can survive alone."

Shi Mo said nothing.

But her thoughts drifted again—to the cold dorm room, the broken bed, and the boy who stared at the night like it held all the answers he didn't want.
