Chapter 1470: 1470: Can't Save Xiaobao
"Hmm?" Noticing Xu Chaomu remained silent, Shen Chi leaned even closer to her.
Xu Chaomu pushed him lightly, her face flushing red. "Why is your mind always filled with thoughts like this?"
"Then how else am I supposed to express my love for you?" Shen Chi replied, his eyes clear and bright.
Xu Chaomu whispered, "You don't need to express anything. Just tell me clearly—what really happened at the amusement park."
"Let me kiss you first."
With that, Shen Chi tilted his head and pressed a kiss onto her crimson lips.
In this kiss were countless affections and endless reluctance to part.
Xu Chaomu let him kiss her without resistance. To be honest, when she saw him sitting safely in front of her, she too couldn't suppress the urge to embrace him and kiss him.
Only by being truly intertwined could they feel the warmth between them and the pounding of their hearts.
Xu Chaomu hooked her arms around Shen Chi's neck, yearning to melt into his embrace.
Shen Chi felt the same. He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her deeply.
Gradually, Xu Chaomu's body heated up rapidly, her cheeks seeming to burn as if ablaze.
Shen Chi's large hand gently caressed her back, while Xu Chaomu's nose caught the elegant scent of wood and grass from him. At this moment, she felt like a fish stranded in drying waters.
With his gentle teasing and guidance, Xu Chaomu slowly surrendered to the kiss, intoxicated in his tenderness.
This intimate contact let her tangibly sense his presence. They had promised each other—they wouldn't be separated.
After a prolonged kiss, Xu Chaomu's cheeks were blazing red, and breathless, her thoughts were a whirlwind.
Only then did Shen Chi let go of her, planting a light kiss on her forehead.
Xu Chaomu looked at him, her face filled with reproach.
Shen Chi stretched out his arms and pulled her into his embrace.
"Now will you tell me?" Xu Chaomu traced circles on his chest.
"The timed bomb did explode, but Xiaobao and I are safe," Shen Chi said.
"Well, isn't that stating the obvious!" Xu Chaomu rolled her eyes.
Shen Chi ruffled her hair, curving his lips into a smile. "When I rushed over, that rascal Xiaobao was clumsily jumping down from the car."
"Huh?" Xu Chaomu exclaimed in shock. She hadn't expected Xiaobao to open the car door himself.
Due to the dense trees nearby, she couldn't see a thing at the time—only that Shen Chi had dashed forward.
"I hugged him and dove to the ground, and two seconds later, the bomb exploded," Shen Chi said. "Yeah, my arm got burned by shrapnel—it got wounded."
Everything had happened too fast. In fact, Shen Chi had barely reached Xiaobao before Xu Chaomu was left utterly dazed.
Before she could react to anything, the bomb had detonated nearby.
But Xu Chaomu still felt lingering fear. Listening to Shen Chi recount everything so casually, her heart pounded violently and refused to calm down.
She stared at Shen Chi's face, her gaze flickering with worry, still not fully able to process what had happened.
After a long while, she cupped his face in her hands and gravely asked, "If Xiaobao hadn't opened the car door by himself, what then?"
If Xiaobao hadn't opened the door, it would mean Shen Chi would need much more time to retrieve Xiaobao from inside the car.
Shen Chi looked earnestly into her eyes and explained carefully, "If Xiaobao hadn't opened the door on his own, I would've jumped straight onto the driver's seat. That maneuver would only take one second, and in the remaining second, I would've been able to drive the car out."
"So confident, aren't you?" Xu Chaomu's heart raced. Still, the solution hadn't crossed her mind before.
"Never underestimate my abilities—or the strength of a father." Shen Chi's eyes locked on hers. "Do you trust me?"
Xu Chaomu stared at him intently and nodded firmly. "Of course, I trust you."
"And I trust myself," Shen Chi replied.
"But…" Xu Chaomu still felt uneasy, her mind conjuring various possible scenarios.
For instance, what if the car exploded before he got there? Or, what if he wasted one or two seconds retrieving Xiaobao or jumping into the driver's seat? Or even worse—what if the bomb detonated prematurely…
As these thoughts swirled in her mind, she voiced all of them to Shen Chi.
Her imagination spiraled, leaving her in a restless state.
Thankfully, Shen Chi was alive and well, sitting right in front of her.
She held his face carefully, gazing at him in silence, waiting for his answer.
In this moment, he was her most beautiful landscape—she couldn't get enough of him, no matter how much she looked.
"When I grabbed Bai Man's timer, there were six seconds left. My sprinting speed at that moment could reach eight meters per second, and Xiaobao was approximately thirty meters away from me based on visual estimation. The facts prove—I didn't miscalculate any of this." Shen Chi's face showed confidence and composure. "And Xiaobao was already standing outside the car, which saved me additional time. So when I held him in my arms, I trusted completely that we would both be fine."
"Are you telling me you truly didn't consider my earlier question?" Xu Chaomu asked him sternly.
"All I needed to know was that my calculations wouldn't fail, and that was enough," Shen Chi said. "The truth is, during moments like that, my sprinting speed far exceeds usual limits."
"But did you ever think—what if the car door couldn't open?" Xu Chaomu's worries spiraled again as she clenched her hands tightly, her brows knitting together.
"No," Shen Chi said simply. "That scenario didn't exist."
Xu Chaomu didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She had nothing left to say; all her worst-case scenarios had been dismissed one by one by Shen Chi.
She had to admit admiration for his instant thinking under pressure. While her mind went blank during such critical moments, he could calculate the exact answers with precision.
"Then Shen Chi, if the car had been parked just a little farther away, wouldn't we have lost Xiaobao?"
"Your son had already gotten out of the car. Don't underestimate his ability to walk," Shen Chi raised an eyebrow.
"He just happened to get out on time! What if he'd been clumsy? What if we really lost him—what then?" Xu Chaomu's voice turned flustered.
"Every situation carries infinite possibilities, but the scenarios you're describing aren't likely," Shen Chi replied calmly. "The car's position was intentionally set to lure Bai Man out. Since Bai Man could place the timed bomb under the car, it meant both the car and Bai Man were within our controlled line of sight."
"I don't get it," Xu Chaomu shook her head, feeling mentally drained.
"Then don't worry about understanding it—it's fine if you don't," Shen Chi said, patting her head gently.
"No, I need to understand. If—just hypothetically—you couldn't rescue Xiaobao, what then? I'd lose Xiaobao—and maybe even lose you," Xu Chaomu pressed on relentlessly.
"This is the difference between women and men. Women indulge in endless imagination, while men can rationally provide precise answers," Shen Chi said. "I've already given you the answer: both Xiaobao and I are fine."
"You're so annoying!" Xu Chaomu exclaimed indignantly. She had been seriously discussing possibilities, yet he dismissed her concerns with a single word—'rational.' At moments like these, men could truly be infuriating.
