Chapter 1467: Daddy, I’m Bleeding
After a while, the chaos inside finally quieted down.
Xiao Mo calmly asked, "I'm on-site. How is Mrs. Shen?"
"Mrs. Shen is fine, but I was afraid she'd go looking for President Shen, so I gave her a sedative." Ayu apologetically explained.
"Okay." Xiao Mo nodded. "Take good care of her."
"President Xiao, tell me—what exactly happened to President Shen and the young master?" Ayu asked, frowning.
Judging from Xiao Mo's voice, she could barely detect any emotion.
"I've already sent them to the hospital. Which hospital is Mrs. Shen at?"
"The hospital?!" Ayu gasped. "What happened to President Shen and the young master? Mrs. Shen is at the West District of First Hospital."
"Details."
"Fifth floor, turn left, third room, plainclothes officers stationed at the door."
"Got it."
After speaking, Xiao Mo hung up the phone.
"Hello?!" Ayu was stunned. Why didn't he answer her question? What exactly happened to President Shen?
Were they on their way to the West District Hospital?!
The explosion, even within a small radius, was devastating. The shockwave from a distance had already been overwhelming, so for President Shen and Xiaobao, chances were... grim.
She couldn't bear to look at Xu Chaomu. A woman, at her age, enduring the pain of losing her husband and child—it was unimaginable.
Xu Chaomu's face was as white as a sheet. She still hadn't regained any color, her hands and feet icy cold.
The sedative would only last two hours. After that, more turmoil awaited.
Ayu stood, heading to the restroom to wash her hands.
"Stay here and keep watch," Ayu instructed the officers outside.
"Yes, Sister Ayu, don't worry." A young police officer responded.
"Mm." Ayu felt a faint pang in her chest too. Over the years, she had thought herself numb to emotions, able to face life and death calmly, yet this accident still rattled her deeply.
The sound of the explosion seemed to reverberate endlessly in her ears, refusing to fade.
Ayu splashed her face with water in the restroom. Though it was autumn, the icy water on her face left her numb to the chill.
She rinsed her face over and over, as though hoping to clear her mind.
When she looked up, the mirror reflected a face dripping with water, faintly indifferent.
She sighed inwardly, dried her face, and walked out of the restroom.
The VIP ward area was eerily silent. The corridors were devoid of sound, filled only with the sterile scent of disinfectant.
Just as she stepped out of the restroom, she heard the sound of a child's voice in the distance when the elevator doors opened!
"Daddy, does your hand hurt? Baby can walk by herself."
Ayu froze in her tracks. That voice—it felt as though it was coming from some distant realm, utterly incredulous!
She wondered if she'd misheard, but her hearing had always been exceptional.
Turning her head, she saw a man and child exiting the elevator.
The man was tall and strikingly handsome, his casual attire accentuating his straight, elegant figure. He set down the little one he was holding, leaning down, his chiseled features exuding tenderness and warmth.
As soon as the child's feet touched the ground, she grabbed her father's hand.
Ayu stared intently—yes, the man was Shen Chi, and the little one was Xiaobao!
Shen Chi's arm was bleeding, the sleeve of his casual shirt soaked in red.
Yet he didn't seem to feel any pain, his face instead adorned with a gentle smile.
"Daddy, you're bleeding—a lot of blood," the little one looked up with concern in her teary eyes, clinging to Shen Chi's arm.
"It's nothing," Shen Chi said softly, lovingly tousling his son's hair.
The elevator doors closed behind them as Shen Chi held Xiaobao's hand and looked up.
As soon as he lifted his gaze, he noticed Ayu standing not far away.
Ayu stood frozen in place, staring at Shen Chi and Xiaobao in disbelief, afraid she'd made a mistake.
But no—she hadn't. It really was them standing there.
Quickly, Ayu ran toward them, calling out, "President Shen!"
Shen Chi smiled at her, nodding. Xiaobao glanced at Ayu curiously. "Teacher?" he asked.
Xiaobao thought she looked a little different, though she was still wearing the same outfit.
Ayu realized she had just washed her face, wiping off her makeup, which made Xiaobao fail to recognize her.
She smiled gently, "I'm your teacher's sister."
"Teacher has a sister?" Xiaobao said, nibbling on his finger thoughtfully.
"Yes!" Ayu nodded.
"Daddy, let's go find a doctor. You're bleeding so much," Xiaobao said, tugging on Shen Chi.
Ayu glanced anxiously at Shen Chi, asking nervously, "President Shen, are you okay? What happened?"
"You'll know soon enough," Shen Chi replied, offering no further explanation.
Ayu didn't press for more. She knew she'd find out eventually.
Ayu accompanied the father and son to get the wounds dressed. Shen Chi's arm was badly injured, and when he removed his jacket, it bore a gruesome sight.
Ayu covered Xiaobao's eyes, shielding him from the scene.
Xiaobao, on the other hand, was unharmed, without so much as a scratch—just some dirt and soot on his face.
Ayu took Xiaobao to wash his face, but she noticed Shen Chi seemed distracted as they bandaged his wounds.
Even though she had never experienced love, she could tell—Shen Chi wanted to see Xu Chaomu.
"President Shen, Mrs. Shen is fine. She was just crying too much and kept insisting on finding you, so... I gave her a sedative," Ayu admitted apologetically.
"Mm." Shen Chi nodded solemnly.
Ayu glanced at her watch, adding, "I estimate Mrs. Shen will wake up in another half-hour."
"Thank you," Shen Chi said.
"Just doing my duty." Ayu stood respectfully to the side.
Miao Xiu suddenly appeared out of nowhere. He entered the consultation room, grabbing Ayu's arm. "Senior Sister, I'm back," he declared.
Ayu frowned, looking at him disdainfully. "Go cool off somewhere far away."
Miao Xiu spread his hands innocently. "In this weather, finding a cool spot might actually freeze me to death. Would you really be okay with that, Senior Sister?"
Ayu didn't bother engaging in his nonsense. She marched forward and seized his arm, twisting it sharply.
Miao Xiu yelped in pain. Ayu said, "What's there to hesitate over? Want me to break one of your arms?"
"..." Miao Xiu believed her.
Xiaobao watched them, then said to Ayu, "Auntie, this Uncle Miao was being all lovey-dovey with my teacher this morning."
Xiaobao had, somehow, learned the phrase "lovey-dovey," and it seemed oddly fitting here.
"..." Shen Chi broke into a sweat.
Miao Xiu's face darkened. Clearly, Xiaobao hadn't realized that the "teacher" he'd seen this morning was actually Ayu.
Unexpectedly, Xiaobao spoke earnestly to Ayu, "Men like this one can't be trusted."
Ayu nodded in agreement. "Xiaobao's absolutely right."
Miao Xiu held his head, looking as though he might collapse.
Xiaobao then turned, looping his arm around his dad's, and said, "Auntie, you should find someone like my dad."
Shen Chi's mouth twitched slightly. Could he deny this son of his?
"But your dad has your mom," Miao Xiu interjected. "So, Auntie, maybe you should pick someone like Uncle Miao."
