Chapter 1453: 1453: The Time of Divorce
Xiao Mo glanced at Shen Chi: "President Shen, do you have a solution?"
Shen Chi's eyes sharpened slightly. He leaned closer to Xiao Mo and whispered something softly into his ear.
Xiao Mo's face revealed concern: "President Shen, wouldn't this be too dangerous?"
Shen Chi lowered his voice again and continued murmuring into Xiao Mo's ear. Only then did Xiao Mo nod: "President Shen, this plan is excellent. It's foolproof."
"It can't truly be called foolproof, so everything still depends on your arrangements," Shen Chi said indifferently.
"Rest assured, I'll arrange it properly," Xiao Mo replied. "Just give me a little time."
"Mm, but don't drag this out for too long. We both understand the principle of striking first to gain the upper hand."
"Okay."
The two exchanged a few more words, and Xiao Mo considered many potential scenarios, coming up with solutions for each one.
Feeling confident that no problems remained, he then made a phone call to one of his most trusted associates.
As Shen Chi had said, this matter could not be delayed for long.
Shen Chi then headed to Ji Shengxuan's home to discuss the progress of the commercial street project. Lately, Ji Shengxuan had been feeling increasingly overwhelmed, so much of the work in his hands had been delegated to his subordinates.
"President Shen, long time no see," Ji Shengxuan began.
"Indeed, it's been a while. My son was born, and you didn't visit."
"It's not that I didn't want to; I haven't been feeling well lately. I've tasked Old Hu with coordinating with you on the commercial street project," Ji Shengxuan replied.
Ji Shengxuan's ginger tabby cat lay obediently on his lap as he stroked its orange fur.
The ginger tabby closed its eyes in comfort, motionless, resting peacefully.
"Where do you feel unwell? Have you gone to the hospital?" Shen Chi asked with concern.
"Old problem—severe headaches," Ji Shengxuan said casually.
"I think you're just missing a woman," Shen Chi said bluntly. "Living alone day and night—any normal person would end up stifled. Having a woman to take care of you would make a big difference."
"Do I seem like someone who needs a woman?" Ji Shengxuan smiled faintly.
"Is that so? You don't even have a pair of women's slippers in your house," Shen Chi said, tearing through his facade without hesitation.
Although the Weiyang Club was half-entertainment, half-romance-oriented in nature, as a longtime friend, Shen Chi knew Ji Shengxuan far too well.
On the surface, he seemed indifferent to everything, carrying an air of detachment about any matter. However, Shen Chi knew one thing: Ji Shengxuan loved Su Weiyang to his core.
At times, Shen Chi hesitated—should he tell Ji Shengxuan he had seen Su Weiyang?
The truth was, the most crucial thing Ji Shengxuan didn't know was that he had a son.
"It seems President Shen has been quite idle lately, finding time to meddle in my affairs," Ji Shengxuan smirked slightly, his expression as calm as water.
"I'm only worried about you. If my concern isn't appreciated, consider it unsaid."
"Should I be grateful that someone still cares about me?"
"Ji Shengxuan, have you ever considered having a child?"
"Not everyone is like you, fond of children," Ji Shengxuan replied coldly. "I have no interest in children."
"Before my son was born, I was the same as you," Shen Chi said. "But once you have a child, you'll realize life changes completely."
"Since when did President Shen become so adept at dispensing chicken soup for the soul? Unfortunately, I don't particularly enjoy it," Ji Shengxuan said with a smirk, glancing at Shen Chi.
Shen Chi chuckled: "Then let's talk about the progress of the commercial street project. I've heard there's some pushback from the relocated residents. Is it due to insufficient compensation?"
"No matter how much we offer, they're bound to think it's not enough. However, this time, the issue isn't about money—it's about their emotional attachment to their homeland," Ji Shengxuan pointed out incisively.
Shen Chi nodded in agreement: "We should schedule a press conference sometime to assure them this project won't destroy the local cultural atmosphere. On the contrary, it'll enhance that old district."
"I'd rather not appear in public. You handle it."
"It'd be a shame for Ji Shengxuan to rarely show up at public events—what's the point of wasting such striking looks?" Shen Chi joked.
"As long as you don't waste yours."
"…"
Shen Chi and Ji Shengxuan continued talking for a long while, ultimately agreeing that a press conference should be held.
The commercial street project was guaranteed success. This initiative was filed under Xu Chaomu's name, and Shen Chi planned to bring her along for the press conference. Though they hadn't yet held their wedding, this would suffice as a public declaration of Xu Chaomu's status as Mrs. Shen.
They chatted until evening, after which Shen Chi donned his jacket and prepared to leave Ji Mansion.
Before leaving, he gave Ji Shengxuan a glance.
He noticed that Ji Shengxuan's complexion did indeed seem worse than before—he had lost some of his former spiritedness.
These past years, ever since the divorce, Ji Shengxuan had been in a semi-retired state in terms of business.
As Shen Chi departed, he left him with one final sentence: "If you can't let go of someone, I think you should try to win them back. Perhaps the outcome won't be as terrible as you imagine."
Shen Chi's words were subtle. In matters of the heart between two people, outsiders lacked the experience and perspective to comment authoritatively—they could merely offer suggestions hesitantly.
Ji Shengxuan remained silent, gently stroking the soft fur of the ginger tabby.
Shen Chi left Ji Mansion. Outside, the sunset stretched across the ground, painting a breathtaking scene.
Some things, Shen Chi understood to a certain extent, such as the fact that the ginger cat had been raised while Su Weiyang was still around. Su Weiyang had cherished it deeply, even though it was just an ordinary, cheap domestic cat.
Years had passed; the cat had grown old and frail. Yet, Ji Shengxuan still treated it as a treasure.
Back then, it was said that their marriage had been forced by Ji Shengxuan, which was why… the divorce had been initiated by Su Weiyang.
Shen Chi wasn't sure whether Su Weiyang had any feelings for Ji Shengxuan. But, when it came to matters of the heart, who could truly say?
The Ji family's butler escorted Shen Chi to his car and bent down, saying, "President Shen, drive safely."
"Wait a second. Has your Ji young master been unwell lately?"
"Yes, he's been suffering from frequent headaches and insomnia. The doctor says it's exhaustion of the heart and mind."
"Tell him to take it easy," Shen Chi replied.
"President Shen, this isn't just about stress… I've been in the Ji family for many years, and I know—Ji young master has been missing the young mistress again. This time of year happens to be around the anniversary of their divorce…"
Shen Chi, a man experienced in life, naturally understood.
Such emotional exhaustion often felt like torture—living could be harder than dying.
"President Shen, around this time of year, Ji young master often stays awake night after night, suffering severe chest pain," the butler said softly. "President Shen, you are a close friend of his; if you have the time, please try to talk to him and help him."
"There's nothing I can do," Shen Chi replied.
"President Shen, how could you say there's nothing you can do? Perhaps you could persuade Ji young master to get a new girlfriend. That way, he might slowly forget the young mistress."
"You don't understand," Shen Chi said faintly.
Forgetting a woman you loved deeply—it's never that simple.
In the eyes of the butler, men from wealthy families like them probably swapped women as easily as changing clothes, incapable of true devotion.
