Chapter 1417: A Very Responsible Father
Xu Chaomu has been having Xiaogao take her to Luo Family ever since that day. She heard from the servants taking care of Shen Shihan and Mo Shuifu that Mo Shuifu's mood was still relatively normal, with her eating and getting up on time every day.
But Mo Shuifu rarely spoke; most of the time she would just sit by Shen Shihan's bedside, holding his hand.
Shen Shihan still showed no signs of awakening, and his condition showed no improvement.
This time when Xu Chaomu visited, she found that Mo Shuifu's belly had grown considerably. She stroked her stomach and got up to peel an apple.
"Shui Fu, let me do it," Xu Chaomu hastened to step forward.
"Chaomu, you're here," Mo Shuifu smiled, "No need, I'll do it. I've been sitting for quite a while."
"The weather is lovely today; we could go out for a walk later," Xu Chaomu suggested.
"I want to visit my piano store..."
"Sure, I'll accompany you, and we'll ask Xiaogao to drive us."
Mo Shuifu nodded, her eyes reflecting a profound and lingering gleam.
Xu Chaomu couldn't tell if she was happy or not; this kind of demeanor from Mo Shuifu made her even more elusive and left her feeling less secure.
Pregnant women can easily become depressed if they are in a bad mood, and so can they after childbirth.
Depression is terrifying, and Xu Chaomu was especially worried.
Xu Chaomu tried her best to think of happy things for her, taking her to places with more people.
But in their interactions, Mo Shuifu remained indifferent, never sharing her troubles with Xu Chaomu.
In the evening, Xu Chaomu took Mo Shuifu to a nice music restaurant, remembering that Mo Shuifu liked classical music and that the food at this restaurant was very good.
At night, Mo Shuifu's complexion finally seemed a bit better, looking happy when she ate some dishes she liked.
Xu Chaomu often pointed at some dishes saying, "Shui Fu, do you remember? When we were kids, we used to catch shrimp in the river, just like these ones."
"I remember, you nearly fell into the river."
"Yeah, yeah, my mom scolded me for that," Xu Chaomu laughed.
"My dad scolded me too, said I set a bad example for you," Mo Shuifu smiled as well.
Seeing her finally cheerful, Xu Chaomu went on to share many more childhood memories with her.
In the evening, while Xu Chaomu was dining out, Shen Chi returned home alone.
Seeing Shen Chi come back, Wealth immediately dashed over, affectionately rubbing against Shen Chi's trouser leg.
Xiaobao also hopped over, shouting, "Daddy, look at the drawing I made today!"
"Hmm," Shen Chi settled onto the sofa, looking at the drawing handed to him by Xiaobao.
Xiaobao then jumped onto the sofa, bouncing around and occasionally scratching Shen Chi.
"Sit still!" Shen Chi frowned and scolded.
"Oh." Xiaobao was especially afraid of Shen Chi. She sat down quietly again, not daring to jump anymore.
"Fourth young master, there's a package today from the fourth young madam," a servant approached.
"Hmm, put it here," said Shen Chi without lifting his head.
"Alright," the servant left to prepare the dinner.
"What's this a drawing of?" Shen Chi looked at the picture.
"Daddy, you're silly." Xiaobao looked disdainfully at Shen Chi; it was such a simple drawing, and he couldn't understand it.
Shen Chi looked left and right, plainly puzzled: "Is this a house? Is that a doll next to it?"
"This is my house, and this is me and my little sister." Xiaobao pointed at the drawing, explaining to Shen Chi.
Shen Chi saw that the house was even smaller than the people.
But the two little figures Xiaobao drew were filled with love, holding hands – simple lines, yet particularly heartwarming.
Observing the drawing, Shen Chi smiled.
For the first time, he felt leisurely and patient; he set the drawing on the table and said to Xiaobao, "Bring the watercolor pens, daddy will teach you how to color."
Xiaobao, blinking her big eyes, ran to her little desk to bring over the watercolor pens.
"What color should the hair be?" Shen Chi bent down and asked patiently.
"Red!" Xiaobao answered without hesitation.
"..." Shen Chi's lips twitched, "Why?"
"Because it's pretty!"
"..." Shen Chi colored the figurine's hair red.
He couldn't remember how many years it had been since he last held watercolor pens, but as he colored, he felt the whole world was filled with beauty.
Xiaobao stood by Shen Chi's side, his little head leaning against Shen Chi now and then.
Whenever the little guy got close, Shen Chi could always smell the unique scent of milk on him, and sometimes when he saw Xiaobao's serious little face, Shen Chi would laugh.
This was his and Xu Chaomu's son, especially adorable.
He was truly grateful to Xu Chaomu for bringing such a smart and cute little fellow into his life.
If one were to trace it back, without Shen Shihan's blessing, he and Xu Chaomu wouldn't have this child.
Therefore, no matter how many unforgivable things Shen Shihan did, he couldn't bring himself to be ruthless.
Sometimes the little guy would intentionally bump against Shen Chi's chin, playing and making trouble with him.
"This needs to be green," Xiaobao said, pointing at the little sister's hair.
"..." Shen Chi broke into a sweat.
"Isn't black hair pretty?" Shen Chi inquired.
"Not pretty, I want green."
Shen Chi, with no other choice, obliged and colored it green.
Although this vibrant and colorful picture looked rather strange, it was also particularly interesting.
The butler Ling would occasionally come into the room to tidy up the table and pour tea for Shen Chi. Seeing the heartwarming scene of father and son, she couldn't help but smile.
She had watched Shen Chi grow up, and over the years, since Xu Chaomu joined the family, Shen Chi had changed a bit. Later, when Xiaobao arrived, Shen Chi underwent a tremendous transformation.
The Shen Chi of today was a very responsible father.
Once Shen Chi finished coloring for Xiaobao, the little boy was so delighted that he jumped up with the painting in his hands.
"Daddy is awesome."
"Mm, next time you color it yourself."
"Okay..."
Butler Ling called out, "Xiaobao, come drink some juice, your favorite kiwi juice."
Xiaobao happily ran to Butler Ling's side and took a big gulp.
"Easy, slow down," Butler Ling said.
Thirsty, Xiaobao gulped down the juice quickly.
Shen Chi watched him, his eyes full of doting love, and his lips curled into an upward smile.
Before dinner, Shen Chi glanced at the package on the couch. He had little interest in Xu Chaomu's things, but this package was different.
Shen Chi, always perceptive, tore the package open.
The package wasn't large, and naturally, the contents were light.
It turned out to be a voice recorder. Shen Chi carefully turned it on, and a processed voice came through: "Xu Chaomu, it has been seventeen years since that fire, have you truly forgotten..."
Shen Chi hurriedly hit pause, his brow furrowing deeply.
Fortunately, Xiaobao couldn't understand. Shen Chi quickly stashed the voice recorder in his pocket.
"Who sent this package?" Shen Chi asked the servant sternly, his complexion changing.
"Young Master Four, we don't know either. The delivery person left it in the delivery box, and we collected it from there."
Shen Chi glanced at the package, which contained no information aside from the recipient's name.
