Ideal Mary Sue

Chapter 55

Li Li was exasperated, thinking that they were embracing each other like that, and though they were not even boyfriend and girlfriend, one might even think they were newlyweds. Just ordinary friends… But does their relationship really matter? Does the manager need to explain? Li Li didn’t continue to dwell on it.

On the surface, she looked like a delicate and weak young woman. Could she be hiding something more?

Could an ordinary person make the manager use his connections to transfer him to the most popular Jack Su stallion group?

After all, dealing with Lin Yu only earned points as a reward.

Li Li suppressed his questions and doubts, continuing to communicate with the manager in his mind.

Even though he always felt it wasn’t that simple, the temptation of the Jack Su stallion group was too great for him to resist!

“I’m going out to switch shifts with them; you all continue to rest.” The chestnut-haired man smiled, standing up from the blanket and heading outside.

Meng Lin hurriedly got up and followed him, saying, “Li Li, wait for me. We need two people to switch shifts. It’s not safe for you alone.”

“There’s nothing unsafe.” Li Li replied as he walked, “Haven’t you noticed? The zombies don’t come in here at all.”

Meng Lin handed him a bottle of mineral water and responded, “I noticed it when we first arrived. Maybe it’s because of the magnetic field?”

“Heh.” Li Li chuckled twice, taking the water and glancing towards the staircase. “You didn’t think it might have something to do with the two people upstairs? Surviving in this post-apocalyptic world without any teammates, completely unruffled, lacking nothing in food, clothing, or drink, even having a generator…”

“Um… even though I think it has to do with those two, it’s still incredible to think that someone could conceal the entire house like this.” Meng Lin said, stepping outside where she could see the wandering zombies. Beyond the boundary of the black car, no matter how much noise the people made, the zombies wouldn’t notice or follow them inside.

Could a human really achieve this?

Li Li laughed and said, “It’s the apocalypse now, even superhumans have appeared. What’s so impossible?” He paused and continued, “Maybe one of those two actually has the ability to shield against zombies.”

“This…” Meng Lin’s face became serious. “Which one do you think it could be?”

Having such an ability in this world would be like having a life-saving amulet!

Meng Lin, who had been living a fearful life on the run from the relentless zombies for more than a month, couldn’t help but imagine how wonderful it would be to have such a person by her side. At least she could sleep peacefully at night…

Li Li thought for a moment and said earnestly, “It’s the woman.”

Meng Lin was taken aback. “The delicate woman? Why? She looks so weak, I thought it could be the man. He seemed rather extraordinary at first glance.”

Li Li smiled ambiguously, “Surviving in the apocalypse with a woman alone, of course, he’s not ordinary. He’s a powerful superhuman; there’s no doubt about that. But it’s unlikely that he possesses the ability to shield against zombies.” He continued without waiting for Meng Lin’s question, “If I had such an ability, I wouldn’t take a burden on the road.”

“A burden? You mean the woman?” Meng Lin shook her head, “I don’t think so. They are obviously very close, like boyfriend and girlfriend. Didn’t you see him blow-drying her hair and massaging her shoulders? Isn’t that love?”

“Tsk tsk, you women are always idealists…” Li Li smiled faintly, “For us men, a woman who is soft, clingy, and needs to be taken care of is just a burden, especially in the apocalypse. No man would genuinely like such a woman unless he has other motives or something to gain…”

“Ugh!” Meng Lin looked at him disdainfully.

“Heh.” Li Li accepted her glare indifferently, “Don’t disbelieve it. You can connect his purpose with the ability to shield against zombies. If the delicate woman has this ability, then everything makes sense.”

“He discovered her ability and pretended to be affectionate to make her fall in love with him, relying on him. Isn’t that a way to keep her by his side, thinking only of him?”

“…That makes sense!” Meng Lin twisted open the bottle of water, took a sip, and sighed, “Ah, if only we had met her first…”

“Isn’t meeting her now the same?” Li Li smiled mysteriously, “Can’t you just persuade her to come with us?”

“Heh.” Meng Lin gave a dry laugh, “How can I persuade her? Her man will never agree to come with us!”

“You don’t need to ask him, do you?” Li Li smiled, “You don’t even need to get her consent, just take her with you.”

“After all, your invisibility ability can extend to one other person…”

“…Hmm, let me think about it.”

Su Ning was sleeping soundly, wrapped in a blanket, when someone opened the door and walked in.

Feeling the bed dip on one side, a hand then pulled her into an embrace, and a familiar scent filled her senses.

Su Ning’s eyelids twitched, but she didn’t open her eyes.

Seeming to know she was awake, Lin Yu’s indifferent voice came from above her head, “I’ve made ginger sugar water for you; it’ll ease your stomach pain.”

“Open your mouth.”

The porcelain spoon was placed to her lips, neither cold nor hot, warm and flavored with brown sugar.

She wanted to drink it; Su Ning covertly swallowed and turned her head to the side.

Hearing the spoon being returned to the soup bowl with a splash, Su Ning sighed. Why did he give up so easily? If he had coaxed her with a few sweet words, she could have given in gracefully!

Lin Yu silently watched her pretend to sleep, his eyes lingering on her. After a while, he tucked the stray hair from her forehead behind her ear, leaning down to place a gentle kiss on her smooth, white forehead.

“I’m sorry.” His indifferent tone held a profound apology.

The hand around her waist tightened, “Forgive me.”

…Alright, alright, considering it’s your first offense, and your attitude is good, I’ll forgive you this time. But you can’t do this again, okay?

Su Ning’s eyelids fluttered, and she slowly opened her eyes. Her eyes were hazy, like she had just woken up. She nuzzled against him and softly said, “…I’m thirsty; I want water.”

Though his expression remained calm, she felt his body stiffen for a moment when she spoke to him. But it quickly returned to normal.

His brown eyes fixed on hers, Lin Yu instinctively reached to touch her face but only grazed it lightly before restraining himself. He took the spoon and scooped a spoonful of ginger sugar water to her lips.

Su Ning obediently opened her mouth to drink.

Spoonful by spoonful, the sugar water quickly dwindled.

Lin Yu wiped the remaining sugar water from the corner of her mouth with a tissue. Seeing her fiddling with the button on his collar again, his brown eyes flashed with warmth as he softly asked, “What would you like for lunch?”

“…I want fish!” Su Ning, as if suddenly smelling something, released his button, sat up straight, covered her mouth, and took a breath, indeed detecting the aroma of ginger. She hurriedly began searching his pockets, “Where’s my chewing gum? It seems I haven’t eaten the grape flavor yet…”

After a frantic search, she only found two strawberry-flavored soft candies.

Su Ning frowned slightly, “Never mind, I’ll make do with these.”

Lin Yu directly grasped the hand with which she was holding the candy, asking, “Do you want grapes?”

Su Ning shook her head at first, then nodded, her eyes lighting up, “I’ll have grapes as dessert after lunch!”

“Okay.”

Su Ning unwrapped the candy, popped one in her mouth, and found the taste pleasing. She unwrapped the other piece and put it in Lin Yu’s mouth, her eyes crinkling into crescent shapes as she smiled and asked, “Is it sweet?”

Lin Yu nodded.

Your smile… is very sweet…

As they went downstairs to eat, they saw a group of people packing up and preparing to leave.

Su Ning tugged at Lin Yu’s sleeve and asked, “Didn’t you say they were going to stay here for the night?”

“They must have changed their minds at the last moment.” Lin Yu had her sit at the dining table and brought out a pot of pickled cabbage fish from the kitchen, placing half a bowl of rice in front of her. Seeing her gaze still fixed on the reluctantly departing group, he said, “They found a vehicle and want to hit the highway to the base before dark.”

“…Okay.” Su Ning nodded, looking at the full pot of pickled cabbage fish, “I wanted them to eat with us, but since they’re in a hurry to leave, never mind then…”

Hearing the gradually fading sound of car engines starting, Su Ning picked up her chopsticks and began to focus on eating her fish, unaware that an invisible person was sitting across from her, drooling uncontrollably.

After eating half a bowl of rice, she saw Lin Yu suddenly frown. Su Ning’s heart leapt, feeling inexplicably uneasy.

Su Ning asked, “What happened?”

“Some fluctuations came from the rear door’s isolation shield; something ran in,” Lin Yu stood up, gently touched her hair, and said, “You continue to eat; I’ll go check the back door. Turn on the pager, and remember, no matter what happens, don’t leave.”

“Okay.” Su Ning quickly nodded.

Lin Yu first went to the front door to lock it, then closed the windows, ensuring that even if zombies entered the isolation zone, the door would block them long enough for him to hear and come back. Then he headed toward the back door.

Once he had disappeared into the garage, the invisible person began to act.

Just as Su Ning was about to put down her chopsticks, a sudden hand covered her mouth and nose, picked her up, opened the door, and ran outside.

Lin Yu, who was cleaning up the zombified spiders that had entered through the back door, rushed back to the living room when he heard the front door lock. But the living room was empty, the pager still on the dining table, and the front door was wide open. Lin Yu sprinted out without hesitation but did not see Su Ning anywhere.

He crushed the pager in his hand, and his brown eyes gradually turned black. Sensing movement from the zombies in the left isolation zone, Lin Yu chased after them.

Su Ning, who had been carried to the neighboring house and thrown to the ground on the second floor, was horrified to find zombies following them. Suppressing the urge to scream for Lin Yu, she could only hope that the invisible person carrying her could run faster!

She had just been thrown on the floor by the invisible person and hadn’t had time to rub her sore behind when she heard the person, now revealed, angrily berating her by the door, “You can block the zombies, right?! Was it a lie?!” Zombies were incessantly banging and scratching at the door.

“Are you stupid?! Come help me block the door!!”

“Damn it, Li Li, I’m not finished with you!”

Su Ning hurried to her feet to help, but the door was suddenly smashed open by the zombies, and the invisible person screamed in pain.

It was like being back at the beginning of the apocalypse, but this time, her back was against the wall, with nowhere to retreat…

All she could do was stand in shock, watching the horrifying creature with a ferocious face, gaping bloody mouth, and crimson eyes lunging at her. Fear overtook her mind, and she couldn’t make a sound.

She couldn’t even close her eyes.

Just as the zombie was about to bite her, a figure suddenly appeared, blocking her front.

He had chestnut-colored short hair, pale eyes, and despite the zombies biting at him from behind, he only focused on her. His cool fingertips gently touched her pale, bloodless face, and he softly smiled, saying:
