Ideal Mary Sue

Chapter 28

Just as he was about to kiss her, the phone rang.

Looking at the pink lips almost within reach, Wei Qing’s eyes darkened for a moment, suppressing the irritability in his heart. He answered the phone.

“Who is it?”

Zhang Yue, on the other end of the phone, hurriedly said: “I-It’s Zhang Yue…” As if aware of his impatience before he could hang up the phone, Zhang Yue said loudly: “I suddenly remembered something else Su Ning had planned. I wanted to tell you!”

Wei Qing looked at Su Ning, who was sleeping in his arms. He held back his lust and said indifferently: “Just say it.”

“She said that you must have seen her date of birth on her student ID card. Her birthday is in a week and she’s sure that you will buy her a birthday present, so she planned to throw it in the trash right in front of you…”

“Continue.”

“She said that she wants you to experience the feeling of having your heart get trampled on…”

“Anything else?”

“No… nothing else.”

Wei Qing hung up the phone.

Halfway through the movie, you can tell that this romance film mainly depends on the sweetness of the two characters. On the screen, the male lead accepts the female lead’s confession and the two hug happily while spinning in circles.

The close-up on the male lead’s smile only made Wei Qing feel that he was mocking him.

“Fuck!”

“How ruthless…”

···

When Su Ning woke up, the movie had just finished. She rubbed her eyes, looked at the time, and noticed she had slept for more than an hour. It was so comfortable!

On her way back to school, the occasional sobs that would sound in her mind were getting louder and louder, becoming too hard to ignore.

“444, what’s wrong with you?”

【444: Wu wu wu… host, you’re going to abandon me… wu wu wu…】

(TL: Wu – Onomatopoeia for humming or whimpering.)

“Eh don’t cry…” Su Ning asked: “Why do you think that?”

【444: …It’s been more than a month host. Although I’m stupid, I can feel that DaDa doesn’t want to do the task anymore. You hate me… wu wu wu】

(TL: ‘DaDa’ in Chinese is “大大” In this context, it means the boss or a courteous title for someone who has more power than you do.)

“I don’t hate you!” Su Ning said reassuringly: “444, I just don’t like being restricted.”

【444: DaDa, I didn’t restrict you!】

“That’s not what I meant.” Su Ning sat on a chair under the shade of a tree and stretched out her hand to catch a falling leaf. “I’ve always done what I wanted since I was a child.”

“When I get to start a relationship, I will be very happy.” Su Ning blew the leaf and looked at the pedestrians walking hurriedly down the road. “With you, it’s likely I’ll meet someone who’ll make my heart move.”

“I’ll pursue him with all my heart…”

(TL: I’m not entirely sure what she’s saying, but I think she’s making the excuse that if she keeps doing these tasks with 444, one day she’ll end up falling in love with someone from one of the worlds she’ll go to, and she’ll try to pursue the task target with her real feelings.)

“And I don’t like and have no interest in your assigned tasks…”

“So 444, I’m sorry.”

···

Obviously, the sun was still shining brightly just now, but suddenly it started raining heavily.

“No!”

Su Ning hurriedly stood up.

Raindrops the size of beans fell to the ground, and soon water pooled up.

The leaves didn’t shelter Su Ning from the rain at all; her dress got wet and when she was thinking about how to cover herself from the rain, a transparent umbrella suddenly covered her head. What appeared in her sight was a slender young man wearing white.

His left hand held the handle of the umbrella while his right hand held a book. On the bridge of his nose lay golden glasses. Under the lenses were a pair of light brown eyes. He had thin pursed lips with a cold expression. His whole body was surrounded by a faint cold aura.

Elegant and handsome, like a piece of ice jade.

This is the older brother in the original body’s memory that she had been secretly in love with, Lin Yu.

Seeing that her dress was getting soaked, Lin Yu took off his coat and draped it over her shoulders.

“Don’t stare. Let’s go.”

Su Ning, however, stood still.

“You…” Su Ning opened her mouth but ultimately decided to say nothing.

“What’s wrong?”

“I still have other things left to do, so I’ll leave first…” Su Ning returned his coat to him, covering his head to protect him from the rain, and ran forward into the rain.

Lin Yu stood in place, staring at her distant back and lowering his eyelids to block the surging emotions in his eyes.
