Chapter 4: Changing Scenery For The Better! We’re Moving Out Of The Forest!
Chapter 4: Changing Scenery For The Better! We’re Moving Out Of The Forest!
Time did not hesitate to move without stop, four years passed without event beyond us hunting monsters and making ourselves comfortable in this supposed dangerous forest.
“Yukiyo, don’t you think you have reached a slump ever since we killed the Giant and the Orc King?”
Shen throws such a question at me without a single care in the world sitting across the table from where I was. She bit into the T-bone steak like meat of an earth wyvern once again whilst waiting for my answer. She appeared as a beautiful woman in her early twenties, with long ocean blue hair tied into a high ponytail. Her skin was a pearly white, as if she had never caught the rays of the sun in her life before. The eyes that gazed at me all those years ago remained the same, taking on a mesmerizing effect if you lingered on them for too long. She wore a white one piece for leisure in this human form. Adorned on her head were her beautiful dragon horns and piercing out from her hair were her long, pointed ears. I tried to touch those, but she didn’t allow me every single time I did.
Our life had become one of hunting, gathering, cooking, and raising the twins. The fizzling sound of the cold drink in her cup made a slight shake as she gulped it down in one go. She smiled as she put her hands on her cheeks, becoming very cute as she savored the flavor that played in her mouth. I had basically recreated the greatness of junk food in this world, and Shen was the first victim of it. She became a glutton who loved eating such food daily. I did not question how she avoided gaining weight and ate the amount she consumed. Through the power of alchemy, along with loads of trial and error, I had succeeded. The Killer Slimes had created a large variety of flavors and, using the carbonated effect, I spent a great deal of time on. Soft drinks now existed in this world as well. That was a harsh task that took me a long while to achieve.
Returning to her question, it had been a while since we defeated the orc king and giant. Both of which had been the forest’s biggest growing threats, along with the goblin chief and Shen. The forest was still a place for survival, but we put an end to the strength level arms race, making it more natural. I think there is at least one target that we need to take care of before ultimately leaving here.
“A new challenger has appeared!”
“?”
“Kaa-chan means that Vampiric Elk, which was nearby”
“How boring. I am sure it is weak. Where are all the powerful monsters that can stand toe to toe with me?”
“We’ve beaten all of them and the forest is not in a hurry to raise one up”
The voice that added to the conversation belonged to Geri, who strolled by with a hungry expression on his face. Shen’s status had twisted and turned in a weird direction, but that was about the same for Geri and Freki as well. With Shen at the helm, teaching them how to survive and me on the hill of showing them fast leveling strats, the two had grown to become adults because of it. Speech had become accessible to them, which was a joyous event for me to hear their child-like voices for the first time. Now they both sounded way older and ikemen for some reason.
“Ah Geri what were you doing all day?”
I asked to see what he had been doing since I didn’t see him in the morning. Out of his item box space, he dropped a large red horned elk with sharp teeth. Wearing a rather proud expression on his face.
“I found and killed the elusive Vampiric Elk.”
“UOOOOOOOOH?! ANIKI WHERE DID YOU FIND SUCH HIGH QUALITY MEAT?!”
“I was hunting it all morning long. Tough nut to crack because of searching every cave, but I did it.”
The other slightly louder voice shouting belonged to Freki, who was more of the dungeon crawling and research branch of personality. He would hunt monsters to fight in dungeons to fight and bring back as opposed to Geri looking for them out in the wild. Freki had become even more accustomed to my world’s junk food than me and Shen put together. But he was as fit as a fiddle and sat in the calculating, soft kind of brother and far more reserved than our local battle idiot Geri. He would dive right into the enemy without a second thought or plan, which would be my main point of scolding him every single time. Not that there was anything that could currently harm the current Geri.
“The cave near the river where you and ”
“Ohhh”
“How about we save the meat for the evening”
“Good idea”
Hmm, it’s been a while since I looked at these two’s status, maybe a little peek wouldn’t hurt. I used Analysis on the pair and was mildly surprised by what I saw.

………..my children are abnormally strong aren’t they? There was a big guarantee that no one in their right minds would try to hunt down these two. I wanted to have a detailed look at Shen’s level and skills but I’ll ask her than get punched in the face for it, I was pretty sure she mentioned that it was level 520. It was now time to check my own status, just how much did I grow in these past four years.

My race hasn’t changed since then. Several of my skills had undergone some changes, whilst some remained the same. No matter how much I leveled up, I couldn’t get my other unique skills to budge. Shen had been using the spells I had up in the library when I was playing as Alpha-Omega and she enjoyed using them. If I were to consider the Great Forest with all of its dungeons as one big super dungeon, then we had cleared all of it. I was thinking about it and instinctively looked at Shen, who then looked up at the ceiling for a minute before resuming her eating.
“Say, what is on your mind Yukiyo”
“I thought it was high time we moved out of the forest”
“Eh?”
“Eh?”
I said that naturally, followed by the two boys being equally confused by what I had just said. As for Shen, she remained unfazed by what I had said and wiped her mouth with a look of amusement written on her face.
“Well, that is certainly surprising. But I guessed you would say that, to be honest.”
“Of course you did. Don’t you want to explore the world as well, Shen? With me no less?”
“Shut up, you idiot slime. Yes, I did. I thought about it before I met you and the boys. It was obvious I lacked strength, but that is not the case right now.”
Wait, did that mean that Shen didn’t originally come from this forest then? I had thoughts about that, but I wasn’t willing to ask her about it cause it might be a sensitive topic to poke my nose in.
“Kaa-chan is right. We are done with this forest, and it has become rather boring as well as predictable”
“Indeed, monsters used to challenge us, but now they cower in fear and run away.”
Geri expressed his thoughts on it, with Freki following right after. They both nodded at the idea of moving out of the forest. I had to point out a flaw in their logic, however.
“I mean, anyone would avoid a king casually walking down the street”
“…….you are indeed right about that mom”
“I just remembered”
“What is the problem, big bro?”
“This is almost our fourth year of living in this forest.”
“Eh?! It’s not 40?!”
I shouted out in surprise, but Geri was having none of it and immediately responding to my nonsense.
“No. It is not. Stop making it longer than it actually is Kaa-chan. Shen-anego, please tell Freki, who is about to disassociate, that we haven’t been living in the forest for that long”
“Calm down, it hasn’t been that long. Anyway, what is your plan of escaping this forest?”
“We follow the river, it should be easy enough right?”
I responded to Shen’s question with a nonchalant answer. To be honest I didn’t know much and I just wanted to get out of here as fast as possible.
“Yes, it should be. If I recall, in my younger years, I spotted a small village whilst…….flying into this forest. Should have grown into a city now.”
“Eh? You weren’t originally from this forest?!”
“Yes”
“““Ehhhhhh?!”””
SHEN CONFIRMED MY THOUGHTS IN REAL TIME! SHE REALLY ISN’T FROM THIS FOREST! The three of us exclaimed at the same time as we heard something new about Shen, she wasn’t born in this forest which was a great shock given with how much she knew about the forest.
“It would be exhilarating to travel for once”
Shen smiled as she looked at me in particularly.
“I was right about sticking with you, as a result I have grown stronger and have enjoyed these amazing treats. You have my thanks Yukiyo”
“What the hell? Shen actually thanking me without adding in some kind of insult?! Shen is there something wrong with you?”
“No, there isn’t. I am perfectly fine you idiot”
“That’s the usual Shen we know”
“Oh shut it you”
We all laughed at the table as Shen was flustered as usual.
☆ The Great Sage’s POV
The Great Forest of Arensha. Many nations sought after this location, however, any prospect of ever attaining it became void the moment one realized powerful monsters filled it. The imagination ran wild with what could be inside of the forest. All was unknown except what was within Lake Arensha. The fierce apex monster known as the Water Dragon, with the arsenal of magic and the power of knowledge. Their understanding could lead them to speak in the tongues of lesser creatures like humans, demihumans, and demons. The closest nation to the forest once tasted its wrath before the Great Sage stopped it in its tracks. Age long ripples of fear echoed to this very day. Devices upon devices were created just to monitor the Water Dragon. The people of said nation feared the day it would rise once more.
“?!”
A silent gasp fills the room as the beeping, which was like a soft and safe lullaby to some, comes to a stop. The presence sensors for the dragon stopped for the first time in 150 years. Those monitoring those devices panicked and made their way to the only person they could rely on.
“LADY SEV! LADY SEV!”
“Hmm? What is it?”
A woman who looked like she was in her mid twenties, hailing from the higher ranks of nobility, stared back at them. She had platinum blonde hair styled in long braids with meadow green eyes. Dressed in a black robe and a light gray dress, Sev stopped what she was doing at the moment.
“The Dragon Monitor has stopped! No readings whatsoever! What does it mean Lady Sev!”
“Eh?”
It was she who created this device to keep tabs on Shen, and death wasn’t an option to consider. Dragons stood on top of the food chain, but the only thing that could kill them were the giants, gods, or the heroes. Sev was the one who sealed Shen in the lake to begin with, she knew she couldn’t keep her there for long but there was enough there to keep her preoccupied.
“Speak of this matter to no one.”
“As you wish, Lady Sev.”
“It seems either the dragon has grown remarkably stronger in this short amount of time and grew into something more, or has kicked the bucket. The latter being impossible to imagine.”
The color in their faces drained as she said this. The very idea of the Water Dragon evolving into an even bigger threat was so out there that fear gripped their hearts.
“I shall investigate this personally. Inform the kingdom I’ve gone out in search of a new spirit to tame”
“By your will, Sage Sev”
Had that dragon become that strong in such a short amount of time? It had been 150 years since she sealed her in the Great Lake of Arensha, for dragons that was a blink of an eye. The pride of a dragon could be easily wounded, and they could easily go a thousand years without interacting with the outside world. Unless there was something that prompted her into action. These new mysteries were going to be solved by her as Sev would investigate the true cause for her attaining strength.
☆
“Speak once more the tales of the dragons who lived in your world Yukiyo”
Shen spoke in a haughty, nonchalant way as we both rode on Geri and Freki out of our dungeon made home. She sat with her arms crossed, having no care in the world. It looked cool and impressive. She could balance herself like that. Shen is so amazing at times like these.
“Hmmmmm, in my world we had tons of stories of Dragons. As well as works about killing monsters, especially elder dragons.”
“Are all humans bloodthirsty cutthroats in your world?”
“Ah. No, not all. But some are like that, though. Most are relatively peaceful. In my culture, we have the Dragon King Ryuujin who has an underwater palace in the sea. He is a dragon god of the sea and has many subordinates, which include several strong yokai.”
“Oh?”
“There is an elder dragon within a certain game that I forgot its name, its presence alone could cause storms and typhoons to occur. Could do these wonderful water attacks from above”
“……”
“He was called Emperor of the Skies. A truly magnificent final boss.”
“I would like to meet such a dragon and do battle with him”
“He’s completely fictional though”
I had completely forgotten to explain the idea behind video games to Shen. Hence, when I saw her disappointed look, I realized my mistake but then a thought occurred to me.
“Uh maybe”
“What? Speak up I can’t hear you all that much.”
“Just maybe there is a world where that dragon and many monsters like it exist.”
“Oh? What makes you think that?”
“I came from a different world. That is proof enough that there must be millions of similar worlds out there. Some of which we consider fiction.”
“I see, you are right. When the time comes for such an event I will put my trust in you”
“Thanks”
I could see the determination of traveling other worlds build up in Shen’s eyes, can she really do it? If so, I want to go back home, organize things, maybe carry my belongings back to this world. I think my life would be complete if that were to happen. Just as I was having these distant thoughts, the twins stopped as we had approached the clear cut off from the Forest of Arensha.
“What’s up? Why did you two stop?”
“I hear the sounds of battle close by”
Freki responded to my questions in one reply and I came up with an easy answer that would make us move forward with our plan.
“Ah, is it not some goblins fighting for some territory?”
“No. If my memory serves me well, this is the border of the forest where lesser rank monsters are located. Humans can traverse on the bounds of Arensha and not inside of it. There are several shortcuts that lead directly to territories.”
“Let’s check this struggle out”
Shen replied quickly to dispel any misconceptions I would have had. The next logical step was to locate these people. I did so easily with the Mapping skill. It was easy to spot them with it, hence I directed us to their location.
After some considerable distance from where we were, we finally reached our destination. It looked like a stereotypical bandit raid on a carriage at nighttime. They had this planned out, didn’t they? It would be too bad if we were to wreck their little plans so easily. I leaped from Geri’s body and stood in front of the pair with an enormous grin on my face. This was my very first time seeing such a thing, and I was going to partake in this minor event that popped up.
“Geri, I want you to use Power Roar mixed in with a little of the Howl of God. Then, as soon as they make eye contact with you, wait for a solid 30 seconds before rushing in like you usually do. Give them a massive fright. Are you able to do that?”
“Certainly. It would be my pleasure!”
Geri followed my instructions perfectly as we all stood on top of the hill together forebodingly. I used his bloodthirsty personality to my advantage, as this is what the bandits stop fighting the knights who were losing the battle. They froze with fear after hearing that blood-curdling roar which was Geri’s cue to leap in and give them hell. He laughs with child-like excitement in his voice, leaving us in the dust. Freki sighs before joining his brother in the battle below from the hill that we stood on.
I retrieved my prized bow from Shen, and she charged lightning in her right hand as we fired at the bandits, who were taken aback by the realization that they had more than just the Fenrirs to handle. With the sound of a thunderclap and ice breaking, about five or seven bandits were taken out by our attack. The brothers were viciously tearing them apart and were doing a significant amount of damage to them. It may have been overkill to send them in first, but they were the distraction we needed to enter the fray and drown them in despair.
“WHAT?! THEY WERE A DARK ELF AND A DRAGONBO-?!”
Without letting him finish his sentence, Shen cut down the bandit leader, using her dragon claws. She grabbed his headless corpse and threw it at the bandits who realized what had happened and ran towards her. Using that as a cue to attack, I pulled my bow back and fired a single arrow that multiplied into a mass of fire arrows that turned them into burning piles of meat.
“Flame Bullet Arrow”
“GET HER!! SHE’S THE LEADER OF THESE MONSTERS!”
“Oh my”
They were quite fast for bandits as they had already surrounded me, but they had made the mistake of thinking that I was just a ranged archer kind of girl. Dodging the sword swing that was coming my way, I kicked the sword that the bandit used from his hand and stabbed him in the neck. After I decapitated him, I threw the sword at the several bandits who were lined up perfectly for the shot. The power I had put behind that throw tore through their heads and body parts. Fear had made its mark on their faces as they cowered in my presence. I merely smiled at them, which caused nearly all of them to wet or shit their pants. I glanced over at Shen, who kept on breaking swords as if it were nothing. Her dragon scales had shown their effect on weapons that weren’t made from good quality materials. I enlarged my hands and sharpened them into claws that shredded through bone and armor alike.
Their screams were music to my ears as I danced away from their attacks, punching holes through human bodies with no resistance. I shot acid at them, which was something they didn’t expect coming from someone like me. Why act even remotely human if I was going to kill them all? Some tried to pincer attack me to one up me but that failed as I used more arms to rip them to shreds with.
It looks us roughly five minutes from the moment we ambushed them to this moment where they were all dancing their last death throes, giving off their final breaths.
There were certainly guards who had been protecting the carriage but they were either dead or about to be, Shen was healing them with magic and reviving a few. I went to the beautiful carriage that had the flag of a white flower in a black background, it must be a noble alright, let’s give them the best smile I can provide. I opened the carriage door and brightly smiled at the young lady and her servants.
“Yo!!”
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
☆ The noble in the carriage POV
The marquis’ daughter, Mona Von Ostrosky, was on a journey from the royal capital of Philonela where her aunt lived to her family home, she had already grown tired of hearing the tales of her kingdom’s foundation and its heroes and glorious wars from her old butler. After tasting the horrible cooking from the high quality inn she visited, she made the hasty decision of leaving at night. Despite being advised against the dangers of such a leave, choosing to ignore those words than listen to them.
Mona had no worries in her heart at the time, but that wasn’t the case as she gaze out to the beautiful serene scenery of the Arensha Forest with the backdrop of the mountain that had her home just beyond it. The ocean of trees was beyond this point and from there, she could only imagine the type of magical things she could find within the forest. But then she saw the corpses of her carriage driver and escort knight on his horse fall down to the ground. She screamed loudly, but it was futile to do so. The logic was sound and solid: there were nothing but bandits and monsters here.
The sounds and noises of swords clashing, her knights screaming and groaning their last as they fell one by one, reached her ears. The last of her knights fought the bandits all alone.
“AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!!!”
At first she felt like this would be the end, as bandits were human and they could be reasoned with. But a beast was something else entirely. That loud howl shook the earth and made its existence known. All who heard it, including the bandits who planned this ambush, were caught off guard. These men who had been laughing and acting like man children a minute ago were now screaming as a one sided slaughter took place amongst their number. Their battle against a pair of beasts took place outside the confines of the carriage, the sounds of bodies dropping and gruesome flesh gnawing attacks. The tables had quickly turned and now it was the bandits who were now screaming their last. Silence came soon after, which made her concerns even more evident. The carriage flies open as a figure peeks inside, and she was the very definition of beautiful.
She had light brown skin which complimented her short white hair. Her eyes reminded her of the ice magic that the court mage used in an exhibition once. Her entire aura was relaxing and made her feel at ease. This lady was wearing a black trench coat with turtle neck of the same color, same could be said about her jeans and boots. Her hands were covered by netted fingerless gloves which upped her cool factor for Mona. What surprised her were the long pointed ears that peeked out of her hair as well as the bright almost sun-like smile she had. Despite that blowing away any form of fear she had beforehand she was still caught off guard by her sudden appearance.
“Yo!!”
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!”
This was the only time she screamed out of pure surprise to the unknown, it was resolved rather quick as she calmed down after being given a fruit by the dark elf before her.
“I apologize for screaming like that”
“Its okay I startled you after all”
“I am glad that you understood”
“Hey, Yukiyo, are the people inside the carriage okay?”
“Yup, they are doing pretty well”
Another voice called out to the dark elf lady, who had an impressive aura about her, but that was wiped clean when the other figure peeked into the carriage. The lady who called out to the dark was just as beautiful. Shen had skin that reminded her of pearls accompanied by azure colored dragon scales. She had a ponytail, and her hair was cyan colored with teal eyes that were filled with concern. This woman had a serious face that made her appear reliable at first glance. Despite also having pointed ears, she had a magnificent pair of horns showing off her dragon heritage, which struck out from her hair. She wore a royal red crop top with baggy pants, covered in blood, which she was cleaning off using a spell.
“Apologies if Yukiyo took you by surprise she is an airhead who hasn’t had interaction with humans for a long time.”
“Uh um”
“I’ve only had Geri and Freki and you as well after all”
“Geri? Freki?”
“Oh!! I didn’t introduce you to my babies!! Geri!! Freki!!”
“Kaa-chan we are not babies anymore”
“We tell her that but she ignores it completely”
Two more voices come out of nowhere but soon two enormous snow white wolves with lightning and fire based tattoos on their fur walk up to the carriage making her wolf beastkin maid Gertrude-san fell on her knees and couldn’t look at them if at all.
“Eh?”
“Gertrude-san what is the matter?”
Mona asks immediately because she is concerned about her maid not being used to much outside interaction.
“The Gods are here”
“W-What?”
“I said that the gods are here, ojou-sama t-these two are Gods”
“Well I mean she is right”
“Wait are they really Dark Elf-dono?”
“Beast King Fenrirs, demigods”
“Hiiiiiiiii!!!!”
Gertrude-san shivered incredibly as she heard the name of the races and fainted as soon as she learnt they are demigods.
“You guys should control your godly aura a bit.”
“Uh, alright, we’ll try”
“Good, you too Shen”
“Umu”
Both she and the other lady entered the carriage.
“Dark Elf-dono, Dragonborn-dono where-“
“Please call us Yukiyo and Shen respectively”
“I have never seen an elf of this skin color before and this race before”
“Mona-ojousama, Yukiyo-dono is of the sister race to the elves called Dark Elf, a race of great strength. Shen-dono is a being born from the union between a dragon and a human, another great powerful race”
The old butler answered to her confusion as she had never seen a dark elf in her life before.
“Heh”
“Heheh”
“If they were seen in other nations like the Bolcross Theocracy both would be considered high class demons”
“Ehhhhhhhh?!”
Yukiyo screams out in surprise to this information with Shen sighing and shaking her head to this as well.
“I see that foolish theocracy hasn’t changed one bit”
"Yes, dark elves are indeed a rare race. Spotting a dark elf who completely live inside of their nation and only journey out in singles or doubles, so not much of the world knows such a thing called dark elf"
"Guuuuu what type of shit game is this?"
Yukiyo makes strange noises as she utters something incomprehensible under the breath of her voice.
"Yukiyo-dono, do not worry. You are very lucky you were not born in the other nations far west or east of here. We accept all races here, did you know our first king was an adventurer?"
"Really?"
"Oh no, it starts all over again"
And thus Yukiyo along with everyone else made their journey into the world, with the winds of change about to occur as she entered it.
