Chapter 127: Lillian's Not Mad?
Marionette stood before Lillian's door with an uncertain expression. Behind her back, she tightly clutched the box of marshmallows but soft enough to not completely crush it.
She then brought her free hand, which was her right, towards the door. Her knuckles hovered above the surface of it. She didn't know why but...
"Huuu..."
She felt like taking a deep breath would cool her nerves a bit. This was a first for her, after all. Getting a gift for a special person.
Would she accept it? Would she like it? She didn't know but... she hoped she would.
Just as she was about to knock on the door, she saw it slowly open to reveal Lillian standing at it.
The white-haired girl stared at her with wide eyes before saying with her head slightly tilted to the side:
"Eh? Marionette? Why are you here?"
"... I..." Marionette paused to think about her words. She then decided to ask back a question to give herself some time.
"Where were you off to?"
"Huh? Well, I was actually about to head to your room."
"... Pardon?"
"Hm? Is there something wrong with that?"
"No... no... I'm just a little confused on why..."
Lillian raised an eyebrow. "Did you have lunch today?"
"Lunch?" Marionette asked with a slight tilt of her head, causing her to get a deadpan look from Lillian.
"Typical and predictable. Anyway, since you're already here, why not come inside? You might as well since I'm cooking lunch."
"You didn't have to—"
"What are you on about?" Lillian grabbed her hand and pulled her in.
Marionette quickly flashed the gift in her hand back into her spacial storage as she was pulled inside.
After Lillian locked the door, she turned to Marionette to find her oddly... fidgety.
Well... fidgety in the sense, that she looked quite worried about something.
She then sighed, "Did me kicking you out of my room—upset you, Marionette?"
Marionette stiffened a bit and with an abnormal stutter she replied with:
"I-It didn't... I'm just worried..... That's all." She then remembered what Millis had told her. She rubbed the side of her arm and said:
"Did I upset you, though?"
"Huuuh...?" Lillian was slightly stunned by what Marionette had said. Upset? When had she ever upset her?
Other than near the end of the Trial of course. Outside of that, she can't really remember any case where she could have.
Eventually, her slow brain realised what Marionette was referring to.
The raven-haired girl watched as Lillian turned her face away from her, hiding herself behind her bangs. This her chest feel heavy for a moment.
Did she really... upset her?
However, the answer came not a moment later.
"Of course, not..." Lillian whispered with a slight blush as she used her hair to hide it. "I was just... a bit overly flustered. And really confused on top of that."
She then put on a soft smile and turned towards Marionette to find her staring at her with wide eyes. It seemed as though a small weight was lifted off her shoulders.
She then chuckled a bit. "Pfft... you look quite relieved."
"A bit... I'm still processing, though..."
"Hm~?"
Marionette watched as Lillian slowly approached her with a smile.
Lillian then gently pushed her back against the wall. Her smile then widened in a playful manner.
"Oh~? Processing? What could you be processing about?" She said, pressing herself against Marionette and sneakily wrapping her left arm around her waist. "I'd rather have your focus, y'know~..."
She then winked at her, causing Marionette to become even more speechless.
"So~... were you worried I would dislike you or even hate you for what you did yesterday?" She giggled before moving her right hand towards Marionette's and intimately clutching it.
She then brought it up, holding it in between their faces and deliberately brought her knuckles to her lips.
Lillian pecked the shocked Assassin's hand while eyeing her reaction. "Quite the adorable blush you got there, Marionette..."
Marionette unconsciously raised a hand to her face, intending to hide the bottom half of it before being prevented by Lillian.
The blue-eyed girl stared into the red-eyed woman's eyes in a teasing manner.
"Hey~... I just wanna see how adorable you look~..." she said, holding Marionette's wrist and playfully squeezing it.
She then brought her gaze to Marionette's face and saw it turned to the side, trying to be hidden but failing.
Lillian sighed before pulling away. "Alright alright. If ya ain't gonna tell me right now, you can do so when we have lunch."
After saying that, she walked into the kitchen, leaving Marionette leaning against the wall, who... then let out a shaky sigh.
She then brought the hand that Lillian kissed and stared at it silently—her eyes lingering on it for a moment before...
Chu...
Marionette slowly placed her lips against the area Lillian kissed, with a dazed look.
Lillian wasn't mad at her. What a relief. Lillian didn't seem even a bit troubled by what she did yesterday... what a relief again.
But... could she be lying just so she wouldn't make her feel bad?
Marionette lingered on the thought for a moment before sighing. It was at this point, she started to believe she was overthinking things.
It was... a habit of hers.
And that led her to her next thought regarding the Second Prince. If she had to assume where Lillian was the entire time, it must've been with him...
The Prince was most definitely a threat.
For while she knew Lillian was attracted to women, she wasn't sure it was only to them. And this made the thought of Reph being a threat increase in her eyes.
He was most definitely above-average in looks, strong and wealthy, and had a highly respectable family and lineage. Someone with these traits would most definitely have the highest chance of getting with anyone.
Marionette approached the open entrance into the kitchen and clutched the corners of the doorframe. She then stared inside and at the apron-wearing girl cooking.
She then narrowed her eyes. And by anyone...that meant Lillian... "Her" Lillian...
She then slowly approached Lillian from behind and...
The white-haired girl, who was minding her business, suddenly jumped at the feeling of a pair of arms tightly wrapping themselves around her waist.
She was then pulled back and felt a pair of soft mounds pressed against her back. "Y-yes!?" Lillian asked in surprise as she balanced the frying pan.
Marionette unintentionally ignored her—only tightening her hold and whispering two words with cold eyes. It was so quiet that even Lillian found it hard to make out.
But...
She was able to make out one word, though. It was... "Mine"...?
