Chapter 99
99. My name Is Sin Emperor Overlord
A night of the new moon──.
Following Electra’s prediction, we entered the temple at night.
According to what we heard earlier in Elios City, this is an ancient temple that worshiped an ancient dragon. It seems there used to be a cult that revered dragons, but it has since faded into obscurity.
“Now that I think about it, what exactly is an ancient dragon?”
I asked.
The three of us were walking down a stone passageway. Sarome, who had a keen sense for detecting traps, led the way, I was in the middle, and Luca took up the rear.
Click, click—our footsteps echoed through the otherwise silent temple. The inside of the temple wasn’t as cold as outside, so we had taken off our cloaks.
“There are a few kinds of dragons. Wild dragons, demonic dragons, and then, at the top of the hierarchy, the oldest and strongest kind—the Ancient Dragon.”
Sarome explained.
“Wow, you know a lot, Sarome.”
I remarked, impressed.
“Hehe, praise me, praise me!”
Sarome smiled brightly and puffed out her chest.
Jiggle.
Her ample chest bounced dramatically, and I couldn’t help but stare.
“…Do you really prefer bigger chests?”
Luca glared at me accusingly.
“N-no, that’s not it—”
Just as I was about to explain, our eyes met.
“…!”
Luca quickly averted her gaze, flustered.
Huh? Why is she suddenly acting all shy?
“Hey, what’s wrong, Luca?”
Sarome asked, intrigued.
“…It’s nothing.”
Luca’s eyes darted around nervously. It was rare to see her, normally so cool and collected, this rattled.
“Ah, I get it.”
Sarome grinned mischievously.
“You’re remembering the kiss you had with Haruto earlier, aren’t you? How cute!”
“Wh-what?!”
Luca’s face instantly turned bright red.
“N-n-n-n-no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!”
She was completely flustered. The gap between her usual calm demeanor and this was oddly endearing.
“A kiss with Haruto… My first…”
She pressed her hands to her lips, as if confirming what Sarome said.
Seeing her like that, memories from earlier came flooding back to me too.
The thrill of the fight with the dragon and the tension of exploring the temple had pushed it to the back of my mind──.
Luca’s soft lips touched mine. Her gentle breath tickled me. The faint scent of flowers lingered close.
I… kissed Luca, didn’t I?
Thinking about it again, I felt a rush of embarrassment.
“…I’m sorry. I couldn’t dodge properly.”
Luca looked at me apologetically and lowered her head.
“N-no, I should be the one apologizing… I mean…”
“My heart… won’t stop pounding.”
Luca whispered softly.
“Huh?”
“About… the kiss… If it didn’t bother you, Haruto, then… that’s fine…”
She looked troubled. I quickly shook my head.
“Of course it didn’t bother me. If anything, Luca—”
“My feelings… won’t calm down.”
Luca stared into my eyes.
“Strange. My chest is fluttering more than in battle, like something’s squeezing me here…”
She pressed her hands to her chest and let out a sigh.
“Ah, yep. That’s love, for sure.”
Sarome grinned broadly at Luca.
“…You know, Sarome, you kind of sound like Alice today.”
Especially with how she kept jumping into conversations about love.
“Alice usually handles the love talk, but she’s not here today, so I have to do it.”
“It’s not like someone has to talk about love, right?”
“What are you saying? Of course, someone has to!”
Sarome insisted passionately.
“Don’t you just adore girls in love? It’s so cute!”
“Well, I guess…”
As I muttered that, a soft glow suddenly illuminated our surroundings.
“What the…!?”
“Is that… Luca’s sword glowing?”
Luca’s long sword was emitting light. The radiant glow pierced through its scabbard.
Oh yeah, Luca’s sword is called Force Greed, right?
‘Its name is Greed’
I recalled the words the goddess told me in that dream-like space after we fought Electra.
A dragon with seven heads, Greed.
The other name—Force—likely refers to Vim Force, the war god widely worshiped among soldiers and mercenaries.
A sword bearing the names of both the Dragon Emperor and the War God, huh?
After a while, the sword’s glow faded. What was that all about?
“Hey, where did you get Luca’s sword?”
“I found it while exploring ruins for a guild job long ago.”
Luca answered my question.
“Hey, could it be reacting to… that?”
Sarome pointed ahead. I couldn’t see anything but darkness.
“…?”
Luca seemed equally puzzled, and we exchanged glances.
“Oh, you two can’t see it yet. Walk a bit further, and you’ll understand.”
I see. Sarome’s night vision must be picking something up.
We continued onward.
There weren’t many traps, and we soon reached a dead end.
There stood a pitch-black stone door, blending into the shadows. On its surface was a relief of a dragon with seven heads.
“The sword… is glowing again.”
Luca drew the sword from her side.
The dragon-shaped hilt gleamed, its single-edged blade curving beautifully as it emitted a dazzling light. At the same time, a grinding sound echoed, and the door began to open slowly.
A milky-white light spilled from beyond.
“Ugh…”
I squinted against the brightness.
It seemed to be a huge, dome-shaped room.
“This is…”
Unlike the stonework elsewhere, this room was made of metal.
The inner walls were flickering, causing the milky-white light.
In the center of the room stood a tank about ten meters high.
“Ah, it’s been quite some time since the door was opened. So, you carry the ‘key’ from the Great War of Gods and Demons.”
A voice echoed from inside the tank.
“To think a human would come all the way here.”
A bizarre silhouette floated within.
A dragon with seven heads, covered in golden scales.
Could this really be…?
“My name is Greed. One of the Ancient Dragons.”
