I WAS PIXELATED!

Chapter 17: Inside the Stronghold (Part I)

As Gim tore through the stone with his pickaxe he stepped inside, entering a pretty empty room. At the other end of the room was a wooden door. He walked forward, opening the door. He was immediately met by a clique of zombies. He rolled underneath them, his diamond sword in hand as he swung at the back of their legs. They groaned in protest as their bodies soon collapsed on each other and their remains dropped to gray stone floor.

As he picked up the zombie flesh and the life essence of the now dead monsters, he looked around the room. A few torches lit up the room, showing the old moss-covered stone bricks, mixed in between regular stone bricks. The room wasn't too big, and it mostly was empty besides a patch of dirt in the left corner of the room. To his right the room was missing the entire wall, connecting to a double corridor, opposite of each other, one to the left, and one to the right. He took a left, and was met by some stairs leading downwards. He decided to follow the stairs, with his sword raised and ready to strike anything in his way.

The stairs went down what seemed about 20 or 30 blocks until it finally led him to a poorly dimmed room with 12 cubicles created with iron bars. They were connected to each other but divided with separate iron bars. He looked through the bars in a few of the cubicles, trying to see any dead prisoners, treasures, or something else. All he saw were rusted buckets which were probably a method to use the bathroom. That confirmed Gim's suspicion that the cubicles were prison cells. He turned to the opposite side and looked through the 6 remaining cells, but to his luck he found nothing.

"I guess going left was a waste of time." Gim muttered.

He walked back upstairs, making his way back to the room he came from. Once he arrived he took the right corridor. Two rooms to each of his sides made of stone bricks met his sight. A few blocks further in front. was another staircase, but it was a spiral and it led him up instead of down. He decided to check the 2 smaller rooms first. As he opened the door, a spider lunged at him viciously. The creature bore its multiple eyes into Gimmick's head, as if he had already seen the pitiful adventurer's fate. With a quick stab to the head, and a swing of his sword, he dismembered the arachnid. The creature didn't even have a chance to feast.

Gim wiped the blade of his sword and looked around the room. There were a few statues of tiny baby angels with fangs in each corner of the room. Below his feet was a plain-looking green old rug. There was a small niche a few blocks above in front of him, where he could see a chest. He climbed up to the chest and opened it. He found an Eye of Ender, more golden carrots, and a magical golden apple.

After he took everything from the chest he left the room and entered the other room across from him. It looked exactly the same except for the floor that had a purple carpet instead of a green one. He opened the chest in that one, but frowned when he saw a couple dirt blocks, and a wooden sword. Suddenly he heard a click and a familiar hiss. Gimmick backed up wide-eyed, recalling the sound back in the desert. He quickly sprinted towards the spiral staircase, not daring to look behind him, as his ears rang from the big explosion he had triggered. He peeked from a safe corner of the staircase and gulped. The entire floor and their corresponding rooms were completely destroyed. No little angel statues, no rugs, no chests, nothing.

He sighed in relief, the big crater making him realize he chose the right room first. 'I guess this was some sort of trial.' With his sword in his hand, he went up the stairs.
