Chapter 360: Rest After Battle
Logan let the creature calm down, healing it gently as he nodded in approval. The shark—now revealed in its full glory—had grown significantly. Its many fins, stretching along its massive form, gave it a striking and intimidating presence.
A true apex predator of the deep.
At level 66, Logan didn't think it would need elemental crystals to grow stronger—it would likely improve through hunting alone. Still, wanting to ease the tension from their earlier struggle, he tossed a few water-elemental crystals its way. If nothing else, it would help improve their rocky start.
[Good to have you on the team, Abyss. You'll be our guide in these waters, and protector of the fleet. So let's work together—and you'll get all the free meals you want,] Logan offered sincerely, extending five large fish he'd saved for breakfast.
[More food. Need more!]
The shark's voice cracked through the Empathic Link, deep and hungry. Logan narrowed his eyes.
He didn't like the tone.
It still sounded defiant—too much hostility seemed to linger after all the effort it had taken to tame it.
"I guess I went too easy on you," Logan muttered. His voice dropped an octave, the gentle tone vanishing.
Without warning, he began gathering lightning mana. The sea darkened as clouds churned above, reacting to his will.
Stormwing's skill were being used, Sky Surge and Tempest Wrath activated in tandem, their energy fusing above the waves. A violent patch of sea surged upward—crackling with thunder and raw electricity. The ocean around them trembled.
Abyss froze mid-motion. Its thick skin shivered under the weight of the storm.
[No more! Will find food! No more!]
The shark's panic echoed across the mental link, now laced with genuine fear. It began circling nervously, desperate to avoid the building storm. Logan smirked and pulled back—cutting off the rising clouds before they triggered a real sea storm.
Only one creature enjoyed the chaos: Sea-King.
The great tentacled beast basked in the raw electricity, absorbing it through his glowing glyphs while shielding the surrounding vessels from harm.
Logan gave the waters one last glance before taking flight and landing back aboard the ship.
The crew stared at him—half wary, half in awe.
Lisa and Rubina rushed over, offering a smile and a quick hug. Even Yui gave him a small nod of approval.
"Sorry about that," Logan said, brushing water off his armor. "Had to remind a certain someone who's in charge."
He glanced back at the fin cutting through the waves in the distance.
"The Abyss will guard us tonight. I don't think it'll disobey again so everyone can rest easy, we have powerful guardians for the trip ahead."
Everyone cheered at his words and soon with things settling down, Logan let the crew resume their tasks as he was guided back to his room. The day had been long, the taming especially draining. All he wanted now was a moment of peace.
But he hadn't forgotten.
There was one last promise he had to fulfill before he went to sleep. He still had to feed Serana.
Luckily, Lisa, Rubina, and Yui had taken a nearby room to rest. Logan didn't care about appearances—but the girls clearly did. The last thing they wanted was to become the talk of the fleet. Logan also didn't want to get in trouble with Earl Victor Rosengard about his daughter.
He sat on his bed, sighing deeply before calling her forth.
From the corner of the room, shadows twisted. Bats poured in like smoke through the tiniest cracks—merging midair until a familiar figure took shape.
Serana.
Her elegant, pale form emerged seamlessly from the swirling cloud of wings, now fully in control of her vampiric shadow magic.
"Thanks for the help against the shark, Serana," Logan said with a faint smile. "That was a good creature to tame... don't you think?"
"Yes, well… it was certainly a dangerous moment, trying to keep it from escaping," Serana murmured, brushing a strand of dark hair behind her ear. Her crimson eyes lingered on Logan, voice soft but strained.
It had been quite some time since she last drank his blood directly.
"I know, I know," Logan sighed, already reading her mood. "I've been taking too long. Come on, sit. Let's get this over with—even if it does kind of irk me a little still, ha..." He gave a tired laugh, pulling off his armor piece by piece.
With only his undershirt remaining, he tugged the fabric aside, exposing the familiar spot just above his collarbone.
Serana approached without hesitation. She always tried to restrain herself, but the moment her lips touched his skin, her control wavered, still she managed to bit in slowly not causing Logan harm, quiet an improvement from the first day they met.
Logan inhaled sharply—part pain, part reflex—but he let her feed. His mind drifted to her scent: faint rose and something darker beneath. She'd started wearing perfume lately. Makeup too. He didn't think she needed it—but it suited her all the same.
Minutes passed in silence, the gentle pull of blood making his limbs relax. When Serana finally withdrew, she licked away the last trace, careful not to waste a drop.
Logan, still half-dazed, reached up and wiped a smudge of crimson from her lips. Then, without thinking too much, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the side of her neck.
Serana tensed.
A shiver ran through her body—but she didn't stop him.
She leaned into the moment.
The rest of the night passed in quiet indulgence. Logan was thankful for the enchanted Ring of Silence—a gift from Earl Victor months ago, back when he'd been made a lord. It still served its purpose well.
By morning, Logan stirred awake with a groan. The sleep hadn't been as restful as he'd hoped—the constant rocking of the ship left a mild ache in his stomach.
He sat up slowly, rubbing the back of his neck as sunlight streamed through the porthole.
"Right… new day, new creatures to catch."
After a quick stretch, Logan braced himself against the swaying of the ship. The waters rocked gently, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary. No storms on the horizon. No new demon sightings, at least beyond the earlier reports.
Still, that silence bothered him.
The demons had gone quiet ever since they'd succeeded in killing two of his classmates. That alone was troubling.
Too quiet.
And as for Brian…
Logan wondered what the boy was doing these days. He hadn't heard a word since that encounter. Was he preparing for war? Hiding? Training?
Whatever it is, he won't be enough, Logan thought. The Kingdom of Elris will eventually come crawling to me for help. Just Brian won't keep them safe.
He almost looked forward to that day—when they'd have to beg him.
Finding the room empty, and Serana nowhere in sight, Logan stood and began getting dressed. He reached for his armor, fumbling slightly with the belts under the armor, grumbling under his breath.
Just as he was about to use magic to fasten them, the door creaked open.
Rubina stepped inside, eyes flicking over his half-armored form. She opened her mouth to speak, then paused—and instead walked over to help him.
"Looks like you're having trouble," she teased, her fingers working deftly on the buckles. "I hope you're not planning to have another girl help you with this every day. At least give Ruri something to do other than guarding the manor."
She chuckled, clearly amused.
"No, I can manage on my own," Logan replied, allowing her help without resistance. "I could even use magic to cheat if I wanted. But thanks, Rubina. I'll think about bringing Ruri along… maybe when I change class again. When I'm strong enough to protect all of you without hesitation."
He shook his head, voice dropping slightly.
"I still don't feel powerful enough to fight demons… not without risking your lives."
Rubina stopped for a second, then gave him a firm tug on the final strap before stepping back.
"Well, at least sound sincere about it," she said with a small smile. "But don't forget—we chose to follow you. We're not here to be protected. We're here to fight too."
Rubina hugged him from behind as Logan gave a nod of acknowledgment.
"So? What did you come in here for? I can already smell breakfast. Don't tell me you got hungry and ate without me."
"Please," Rubina scoffed releasing him as Logan turned to face her. She flicked a strand of red hair behind her shoulder. "I came to tell you breakfast is ready. We were just waiting for our great lord to show up before checking the map. We also need to make sure we're on track—check in with Lady Elara to see where we are and such."
"Let's get to it then." Logan smiled faintly and grabbed his trusted whip. "I'm starving."
Rubina clung on to his arm as the two exited the room, outside the smell of sea water and fried fishes overpowered Logan's senses, it was something he wasn't used to yet but he liked the feeling of an adventure.
