Chapter 3: Chapter 3
"Wow, Sora, I didn't expect you to have such a big goal. You truly are the only opponent I recognize besides Kakashi. Come on, let's start the duel we agreed upon!"
Might Guy, who had been quietly listening until now, suddenly struck a dramatic pose of eager anticipation, his familiar fiery gaze making Sora feel just a little uncomfortable.
Um… I just finished training. How about we sit down and rest first, and… talk about something else?
"It's fine, Sora! I just finished training too! And don't worry, I'll be careful not to really hurt you." Saying this, Might Guy flashed a blinding smile, raising his thumb with a brilliant, diamond-like sparkle gleaming from the corner of his teeth.
"Sora! Don't hesitate, and don't hold back! Burn your youth to the fullest!" Might Dai, standing nearby, clenched his fist and struck a pose so energetic it almost made the grass ripple.
Sora: "..."
Why do I suddenly feel like running away…?
Alright… the father-and-son duo were already training like madmen, not giving him even the slightest chance to refuse.
Now I really understand how Kakashi feels… Sora thought bitterly. Wanting to refuse, but unable to escape. Being challenged every other day… no normal person could stand this.
Seeing Sora remain silent, Might Guy immediately assumed it was agreement. With a loud shout, he charged straight at Sora.
Sora's eyes narrowed as he saw the attack coming. He stomped his right foot into the ground, and his body, which had been sitting lazily just a second ago, shot backward in a sharp retreat — narrowly dodging Guy's strike.
"Hey! I haven't agreed to your challenge yet!" he barked.
"Prepare yourself, Sora! This time, I'll defeat you honorably!" Unfortunately, Might Guy was already fully fired up, and it seemed that nothing short of a punch to the face could snap him out of it.
Sora let out a long, helpless sigh.
These two really are impossible…
Left with no choice, he swung his leg up to meet Might Guy's renewed whirlwind kick head-on.
Bang!
Their legs clashed with a resounding thud. Might Guy landed cleanly, still balanced in his stance, while Sora unconsciously staggered two steps back his calf throbbing with a dull ache from the impact.
Although Sora had been training relentlessly for the past two years, and his physical fitness had improved greatly, compared to Might Guy he was still far behind. That was precisely why he never took Guy's attacks head-on.
"Konoha Strong Whirlwind!"
Might Guy pressed his advantage, toes tapping against the ground as he closed the distance in a flash.
An upward kick crashed heavily into Sora's braced arms, and the force sent him flying into the air.
Guy's toes tapped the ground again and in the blink of an eye, he was beside Sora, body twisting as his leg swung down toward Sora's abdomen like an axe.
But just then, the corners of Sora's lips curled faintly.
Bang!
Sora's figure burst into a puff of white smoke, leaving behind only a wooden log spinning in the air.
Might Guy's eyes widened in surprise. He whipped his head back—only to see a spinning kick, perfectly timed and eerily identical to his own, already hurtling toward his left cheek.
Sora's timing was flawless. At that moment, Guy was still mid-swing from his downward kick and completely exposed.
Left with no choice, Guy raised his arm to block. The impact reverberated through his bones as the immense force sent him skidding backward, digging tracks into the ground.
But Sora didn't stop. His hands flashed through a series of seals at blinding speed.
"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!"
A roar of flame followed his words, and a massive fireball—large enough to swallow a grown man whole—exploded forth, streaking toward Guy.
For just an instant, hesitation flickered across Guy's face… then it was replaced by blazing determination.
"First Gate: Open!"
"Konoha Violent Whirlwind!"
A faint green vapor erupted from his body, swirling violently around him. Facing the incoming inferno, he neither dodged nor flinched. His right leg, glowing with that eerie green chakra, whipped upward to meet the flames head-on.
Boom!
The fireball exploded into a storm of heat and smoke, the blast forcing Might Dai, watching from the sidelines, to shield his face with his arms. His gaze stayed locked on the billowing black smoke, his expression tight with worry.
"Cough… cough…"
As the smoke thinned, a figure appeared—Might Guy, his jumpsuit scorched and his chest heaving as he gasped for breath. That single clash had clearly drained a considerable chunk of his chakra.
Yet even now, his eyes burned with that unyielding spirit.
"Let's go again!" he bellowed, charging through the last wisps of smoke toward Sora's position.
But the next moment, his charge faltered.
Because the spot where Sora had stood… was empty.
Guy's ears twitched. He caught the faint whoosh of movement to his left. Instinctively, he whipped his fist toward the sound, aiming a punch at the figure emerging from the smoke.
But what he saw stopped him cold.
Sora's eyes had turned blood-red, two tomoe spinning hypnotically in each pupil.
"Genjutsu: Demonic Illusion."
Their gazes locked for only a fraction of a second, but that was enough. Guy froze, his mind momentarily seized by the illusion.
When he finally broke free, a chill ran down his spine.
Something cold and sharp was pressing lightly against the side of his neck—a kunai, held steady in Sora's hand.
Might Dai, watching quietly from the side, sighed.
"He didn't even force Sora to use the Eight Gates Formation? Looks like Guy's training is still far from enough…"
Of course, he had reminded Guy many times before: unless absolutely necessary, that technique must never be used lightly.
"Guy, you lost."
Sora slowly lowered the kunai in his hand, offering Might Guy a faint smile.
But somehow, in Guy's eyes, that smile sent a faint chill down his spine.
At that moment, Might Dai strode over, eyeing his son's battered and disheveled state. He gave Guy a firm pat on the shoulder.
"It's alright, Guy. I believe that one day you'll surpass both Sora and Kakashi. But before that—you need to train even harder!"
As expected, upon hearing this, Guy—who just moments ago looked dejected—suddenly lit up with renewed fighting spirit.
"Yes, Father! I understand what I need to do!"
Immediately, his blazing gaze swung back to Sora.
"Sora! Starting today, I will challenge you over and over—until the day I finally defeat you!"
Sora: "...?"
"That's it, Guy! That's what youth is all about!" Might Dai declared, eyes shining with pride.
"Father!"
"Guy!"
The father and son embraced each other tightly, weeping tears of hot-blooded emotion.
Meanwhile, Sora stood there frozen, a pained smile on his face. Deep down, he felt like crying himself.
"Looks like I've just earned myself a lifelong headache… I'd better start figuring out how to avoid Guy from now on…"
To continue...
