Northwest of Pewter City, beside an unnamed volcano.

Since leaving Viridian Forest, Ethan had been wandering around this enormous volcano for two full days. He had originally planned to challenge the Pewter Gym directly, but after hearing that Charmander were in the vicinity, he temporarily changed his mind and made catching a Charmander his primary goal.

The reason for his eagerness wasn't just that Charmander's final evolution, Charizard, was incredibly powerful; primarily, its design was incredibly cool, and it had been a favorite of Ethan's since his past life.

However, much to his disappointment, aside from a few Diglett, Zubat, Geodude, and Cubone, he had traversed most of the volcano without encountering any sign of Charmander.

As the sky once again grew dim, and night was about to envelop the land, Ethan set down his backpack, preparing to camp. Suddenly, in the distance, Eevee, who had gone ahead to scout, rushed back. Seeing Ethan, Eevee ran up to him, crying out anxiously. Although Ethan didn't understand the meaning of its cries, remembering the task he had given Eevee, he immediately perked up.

"You found a Charmander!?"

Eevee nodded, then turned and gestured for Ethan to follow.

Ethan didn't hesitate. Grabbing his backpack, he followed Eevee, bypassing a vast expanse of rocky terrain. Finally, in a mountain crevice, he discovered dozens of glowing lights. These lights were especially noticeable in the fading light. Upon getting closer, he could clearly see that it was a community composed of Charmander and Charmeleon. When Ethan looked up, he could even faintly spot a few Charizard soaring and circling among the clouds. The glowing lights were the flames burning at the end of their tails, their very life force.

After all this trouble, Charmander, I've finally found you!

However, how could he catch one without alerting the Charmeleon and Charizard? Charmander's temperament was relatively gentle within its family, but Charmeleon and Charizard would clearly not allow Ethan to openly catch a Charmander.

Lying prone in the dense bushes, Ethan looked around. Inadvertently, he looked down and saw his backpack beside him. His eyes lit up, and he had an idea. He opened his backpack, pulled out a flashlight, and tore off a few small pieces of electrical tape, sticking them to the front of the flashlight, leaving only a small circular hole. Then he took out a canned ration, opened the lid, and placed it behind a large rock big enough to hide behind.

After doing all this, he waved his hand, signaling his Pokémon to hide in various directions.

"This time, we're pressed for time, so no fair battles. Once we lure a Charmander here, everyone attack together! We need to finish the battle before the Charizard discover us. Understand?"

"Squirtle, Squirtle!"

Seeing his Pokémon nod in unison, Ethan, alone, returned to his previous hiding spot beneath a tree and began observing carefully.

Charmander's appearance was somewhat similar to a carnivorous dinosaur. Its body was orange, with a cream-colored belly and underside of its tail. Its most distinctive feature was the flame on its tail. This flame could reflect its health and mood: vigorous when energetic, weak when lacking motivation, flickering when happy, and burning fiercely when angry. It was said that when the flame on its tail extinguished, Charmander's life would also end. However, as long as it was healthy, the flame on its tail would burn brightly even when completely drenched.

At this moment, these Charmander were still playing leisurely, unaware of Ethan's arrival. After a long observation, Ethan finally set his sights on a particular Charmander that seemed somewhat special.

This Charmander, while also playing and roughhousing with its companions, perhaps due to a somewhat careless personality, sometimes used too much force and didn't know how to control it, often angering its companions who would yell and scold it.

Watching its somewhat clueless expression, Ethan's mind was made up. Excellent, you're the one!

He took out the flashlight, turned it on, and aimed it at the Charmander. The thin beam of light from the flashlight, with a few short bursts, shone on the Charmander's face. However, because it didn't spread outwards, it didn't attract the attention of the other Charmander. At first, Charmander didn't pay attention to the dazzling light; it just blinked, turned its head to dodge, but when the light slowly moved with its head and shone on its face again, it finally caught its attention.

?

A large question mark appeared above Charmander's head. It looked left and right, then curiously walked toward Ethan's hiding spot. Seeing the target take the bait, Ethan slowly retreated and hid behind the large rock.

As Charmander followed the flashlight's beam to this spot, it suddenly found the light gone. In its place was a strange, fragrant food placed in the open. It sniffed hard with its nose. Just as it took two steps forward, it heard a sudden movement. Several figures rushed out from all four directions simultaneously. Before it could react, in a flash of lightning, it was hit by a Water Gun, Confusion, Vine Whip, and a Headbutt. It instantly collapsed, its vision going black, completely losing consciousness.

"Excellent!"

Seeing Charmander fall, Ethan darted out from the side, quickly pulled out a Poké Ball, and threw it. With a flash of red light, Charmander was drawn into the ball. It didn't even wobble; it was caught successfully.

Staring at the Poké Ball, Squirtle seemed a bit dazed, a somewhat uncomfortable memory surfacing. It felt like this capture scene was… somehow familiar?

"What are you waiting for!" Ethan lightly tapped its head. His smile, even in the dim night, seemed incredibly bright to Squirtle. "It's caught! Before the big guys notice, let's get out of here!"

Late at night, at the Pokémon Center in Pewter City.

In the empty restaurant, Ethan leaned back in a dining chair, legs crossed, sipping vegetable juice, looking completely relaxed. As of today, he had finally achieved a milestone: he had collected all three Kanto starter Pokémon!

Among the five Pokémon beside him, four were eating. Only the newly caught Charmander looked bewildered, observing its unfamiliar surroundings. Its memory was somewhat fragmented, like falling asleep and waking up to find the world had changed. It didn't even know why it was here. And how had this human suddenly become its Trainer? And how had these Pokémon suddenly become its companions?

Seeing Charmander sitting there blankly, Ethan pushed the food toward it with a concerned expression.

"Eat more. What? Still a little fuzzy-headed? Don't worry, after today, I think you'll get used to it very quickly!"

Ethan has successfully acquired his final Kanto starter, Charmander, completing his goal of collecting the Kanto trio! His methods for catching them have certainly been... efficient, though perhaps a bit traumatizing for the newly caught Pokémon.

With all three starters and his growing team, Ethan is now truly ready for the challenges of the Pokémon League. His next stop is likely the Pewter Gym.

What kind of battle awaits Ethan and his team in Pewter City?
