Chapter 19
After arriving home and finishing carrying in the groceries, I took a short break before starting to cook.
“Something simple should be fine…”
With that thought, I quickly boiled some pasta, mixed it with a store-bought sauce, and in no time, I had a Diablo-style pasta dish ready.
“Mmm, not bad.”
It wasn’t as if I had a particular fondness for Diablo-style pasta sauce, but it had caught my eye while shopping earlier, and so that’s what I ended up making for dinner.
After finishing my meal and relaxing for a bit, I received a message from Hitomi. She had just finished her part-time job.
It was nothing special, just a routine message, but being able to chat with her over LINE made me happy. I found myself recounting the events of my day to her through our messages.
As I savored the joy of this simple, luxurious moment, I powered on my laptop and checked the stock market to monitor the status of my investments.
I used to check in the mornings, but since my assets had stabilized, I had shifted to a long-term investment strategy and now only reviewed my portfolio at night.
The last time I checked a few days ago, my total assets were around 30 billion yen. However, when I looked now, stock prices had soared significantly, and my total assets had grown to nearly 40 billion yen.
“A 25% increase, huh… Well, it’s still a reasonable amount compared to American private investors. But if it ever reaches a trillion, that might actually be a problem.”
At this point, I had given up on keeping track of my ever-increasing wealth and simply continued managing it as usual.
While checking my stock performance and chatting casually with Hitomi through our messaging app, I suddenly got an idea.
Kirishima: “Let’s go on a trip. During summer break.”
Hitomi: “Ooh, sounds good! Where to?”
Kirishima: “Summer means the ocean. Okinawa is nice, but typhoons and crowds can be a hassle. I’d rather go overseas.”
Hitomi: “That might be tough for me.”
Kirishima: “Then, how about Atami?”
Hitomi: “Why Atami?”
Kirishima: “It has both the ocean and hot springs.”
Hitomi: “No objections.”
Kirishima: “Alright, how about three nights, starting the day after our exams end?”
Hitomi: “Three nights?! I don’t have that kind of money!”
Kirishima: “I pay for my rent and utilities with my credit card, and the reward points have piled up like crazy. I was thinking of using them.
So, including transportation, it should be less than 30,000 yen per person. Excluding highway tolls.”
Hitomi: “I see… But I’d feel bad about using up your points.”
Kirishima: “I didn’t even realize I had been accumulating them for a year and a half.
Since I only just noticed, I figure that’s a sign I should use them.”
Hitomi: “Hmm… if you say so…
Then at least let me cover the highway tolls!
I have an ETC card, so I can handle that!”
Kirishima: “That’s unexpected. You have an ETC card?”
Hitomi: “Yup! They recommended it when I opened my bank account, so I signed up for one.
Leave it to me!”
Thinking to myself how glad I was that she had a solid sense of financial responsibility, I responded:
Kirishima: “Alright then, I’ll leave it to you.”
Hitomi, excited by my response, sent a message back filled with enthusiasm, along with a cute sticker:
“Leave it to me! Don’t underestimate the financial power of Hitomi Yuki!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle at her energy.
After finalizing our travel plans, I started browsing the internet to find a nice place to stay.
Thus, another happy day came to a close, and a new one was about to begin.
