Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: Resuming Training
Chapter 92: Resuming Training
The rest day ended, and everyone wasn’t exactly enthusiastic about resuming training… Ultimately, we swung our swords a bit every day to prevent our bodies from getting too stiff.
For me, the discovery that Jest would happily eat anything I made, not just sweets but also snacks to go with alcohol, was a revelation. I do like sweet things, but right now, I prefer things that go well with alcohol.
There was a scene in the novel where I talked to Miss Diane while exhaling a boozy breath, so I’ll be careful not to drink in a way that bothers people like her. Drinking in various bars is good, but it’s also fun to drink with my subordinates in the barracks, so I’ve prepared some in advance.
And unlike with sweets, fewer subordinates gather in front of the room tempted by the smell. If it weren’t for the sweet smell, they would probably think it was the smell from the cafeteria. Some people were puzzled in the cafeteria because the food with that smell hadn’t been served.
Unlike rest days, when we trained intensively, by noon, even members of the Third Knight Order were exhausted. I was no exception.
“Justin! It’s already noon! Oh, and a civilian official said there’s some news!”
As Jest brought the news, the noon bell rang.
“Phew… Morning training is over! We’ll resume in an hour!”
Responding in unison, my subordinates put away their wooden swords and headed to the cafeteria in a hurry. Except for Orel, the young subordinates were still embodiments of appetite.
“Well then, shall we stop by the office before eating? What did they say?”
“Um, it’s not just one thing. They said there are several announcements to make!”
“I see, thanks for letting me know.”
Patting his head, Jest smiled happily. When we arrived at the office, the chief secretary, Orban, handed me three envelopes. One was a report from the workshop saying that the sword made with Jest’s scale was completed.
The second was news from the royal castle saying that a sign of the saint’s return had come. It seems they will arrive this afternoon. Since it involves a VIP, the First Knight Order will go to greet them.
And the last envelope was also from the royal castle, saying that a group of dwarves is heading to the capital and will arrive within five days. It suggested that while the First Knight Order could greet them as VIPs, as acquaintances of the Third Knight Order, or rather, as I know them, I should be the one to greet them.
“What was it?”
Jest, who had patiently waited until I finished reading, looked up and asked.
“It seems the saint will arrive this afternoon. Jeanne and the others are also coming down from the dwarven village and moving along the highway. Also, it seems the sword made with Jest’s scale is ready, so let’s go see it after the meal.”
“Yay! Let’s go, let’s go!!”
Jumping happily, Jest bounced around, and the civilian officials watched him with smiles. At first, they were a little scared when they saw Jest in his small dragon form, but it seems they find his humanoid form agreeable. It’s only natural since he resembles my little brother.
When I and Jest arrived at the cafeteria, the hungry subordinates swarmed in, leaving the cooks exhausted. Some had already finished eating, and there were scattered empty seats.
Today’s lunch was lamb sauté, bean soup, and bread. I really wanted to soften this hard bread to at least roll bread, but I had to give up because I couldn’t get dry yeast. I remember seeing something about mixing beer with something to ferment it, but I wonder if ale would work.
In the end, while pondering such things, time passed, and here we are. So, let’s hope that someday the saint will make something with the heroine’s grace. Knights tend to grit their teeth when they put effort into something, so in that sense, this hard bread is better for strengthening the jaw.
After finishing our meal, Jest and I decided to walk to the workshop where the artisans were. But before that, I had to tell Orel. Heading to Orel’s room, I informed him that I would go to the workshop in the afternoon, and as Simon and Marius passed by, they started making a fuss. Well, technically, both of them passed by, but only Simon started making a fuss about not skipping training.
“Who’s skipping? Checking weapons is also my important job!”
“But it’s the one made with Jest’s scale, right!? I want to see it too! Jest would want me to see it too, right!? Right!?”
Is this guy trying to win over Jest!?
“Well, at first, Justin is fine. Besides, only Justin can use the sword made with my scale!”
“Oh, come on…”
Disappointing Simon’s expectations, Jest smiled and dismissed Simon’s opinion.
“Hehe, too bad. You better train hard in the afternoon. Orel, if Simon slacks off, report it.”
“Understood.”
“It’s about time for the break to end. Back to the training ground.”
“Simon, do your best in training!”
“Jest… Yeah…”
Simon returned to the training ground, unable to meet Orel and Marius’ disappointed gazes.
