I Received System to Become Dragonborn

Chapter 902: Don't Remember

The shift that happened was instant.

The dead-tree giants, once lumbering and moving slowly like decayed titans suddenly lurched forward with terrifying speed.

The ground screamed beneath their weight. Black bark cracked and shattered soil with every step as they accelerated—massive limbs swinging, tearing through the air with impossible speed for creatures so large.

"Shit, how are they become so fast!" Eccar shouted as the first one surged toward him with blackened vines whipping like serpents behind it.

Erend had barely reached his altitude beside him when a branch-thick limb came crashing toward them. They scattered in opposite directions, the air bursting with a sonic boom as the attack missed.

Another giant came for Erend, both arms raised like it meant to crush him between them while he was flying.

He spun in midair, fire wreathing his entire body as he blasted a spiraling jet of flame downward to stop his movement.

The two massive limbs crashed together where he'd been a heartbeat before, the impact sending a shockwave across the battlefield and a rain of splinters that burned in his fire.

Then Erend launched forward with both of his hands blazing. He twisted between swinging arms and rammed a ball of compressed fire directly into the center of the creature's chest.

The explosion tore a hole straight through its bark and the fire surged inside, catching the cursed sap within.

The giant staggered and let out groaning noises from somewhere inside his head part that sounded like cracking mountains. Erend followed up with a second blast to the head.

Its skull-like crown ignited in a blinding flare of red-gold and the colossus collapsed in a slow, thunderous fall that split the ground.

Meanwhile Eccar was locked in brutal melee with another giant. He'd taken a hit already now, his shoulder armor cracked a little but he was still grinning.

He soared higher while dodging a massive backhand, then dove down like a meteor again toward the giant tree's behind.

He slammed both fists into the giant's upper back and as he struck he released a shockwave of pure earth Magic. Stone erupted from the impact point, blasting through the creature's bark like a volcano erupting under its skin.

The giant let out that strange howl again then twisting to swat him away but Eccar ducked under the swinging limb and dive down and slammed both feet into its lower leg.

A moment later jagged stone spikes exploded upward from his hands spearing into its joints. The giant tree buckled and bend over to the front side.

Then, he raised both hands and clenched them into fists. The ground below answered.

A massive spike of bedrock tore through the soil like a blade, rising directly beneath the tree giant's core.

It pierced through the creature's torso and out its back.

With a final creaking groan, the second colossus fell. It hit the ground hard, dust and ash exploding in all directions.

Erend and Eccar hovered in the air. Their eyes locked on the three remaining giants now thundering toward them.

Two down. Three to go.

And above them, the figure in the sky even higher than them began to descend slowly and deliberately. Their cold, ancient hatred now burning hotter than ever.

The figure in the sky—Thar'Zul-Vekar, the old and long-forgotten god of forests, balance, wild and ancient growth—did not flinch when the Ents fell.

Not even when the second colossus collapsed under the force of Eccar's earth spear and vanished into dust and splintered roots. The god simply watched with narrowed eyes like someone examining a mistake repeated.

The Ents had already died once. These were merely vessels of memory and hatred reanimated with the residue of his Magic power. Their destruction didn't hurt, it confirmed what Thar'Zul-Vekar already knew.

The Dragonborns had not remembered anything about the forests they once burned.

They were still locked in their cycle of violence—seeing the Ents not as echoes of past guilt but just another wall to smash through. Another creatures to burn.

Thar'Zul-Vekar's jaw clenched.

Below, the battle raged on.

The three remaining Ents thundered forward in a V-formation. One began launching thick, spear-like branches at Erend and Eccar from afar, while the other two sprinted with limbs outstretched to tear them from the sky.

Erend spun through the incoming volley, his fire trailing behind him like a comet's tail. One wooden spear grazed his side, cracking his armor with enough force to spiral him midair but he caught himself and righted in the air.

"I'll take the left!" he shouted.

"I'll take the big one!" Eccar replied with a grin.

Erend dove with a roar, spinning like a drill as flame spiraled across his arms.

He crashed into the leftmost Ent, smashing directly into its chest and unleashing a pulse of fire that melted bark and blackened the cursed heart beneath.

The creature bellowed and tried to grab him but he danced through its limbs and sliding between vines, before hurling twin streams of fire into its face.

The flames ignited deep within its hollow skull. The Ent shook wildly, burning from the inside. Then it collapsed to the ground, smoke rising from its stump neck.

Eccar soared toward the central Ent with thick branch-armor. It swung at him with both arms, creating shockwaves in the air.

Eccar blocked with both forearms crossed, and though the blow sent him hurtling back, he twisted midair and landed on its arm.

He sprinted up its limb, fists glowing with power. He reached the neck and drove both fists in, unleashing a cascade of stone spikes from the inside out.

The creature spasmed, choking on its own cursed essence as spikes jutted from its throat, and Eccar leapt off with a final boulder of earth flung directly into its chest.

The Ent stumbled, black bark cracking open and then its legs gave out. It crashed to the ground, motionless.

The last one still standing but Erend and Eccar didn't give it more chances.

Together, they swooped down from opposite sides, Erend trailing fire, Eccar riding the wind and stone.

Erend struck first, launching a piercing beam of concentrated flame that ripped through the creature's le. Eccar slammed into the opposite knee, fracturing the joint with a pillar of stone from beneath.

As the Ent collapsed, they circled around it.

Erend blasting its head with fire while Eccar hurled stone after stone into its cracking chest.

Finally, both Dragonborns unleashed their attack in a single joint strike.

The Ent was shattered in a blazing explosion of molten bark and flying rock.

Silence fell. The battlefield was filled with ash and the glowing remains of burning wood.

And then… a shadow crossed the sky.

Erend and Eccar turned at the same moment, eyes drawn upward.

Thar'Zul-Vekar was descending slowly now, green-black vines coiling around their arms, aura pulsing like storm clouds.

They looked not at the battlefield directly at the Dragonborns.

"You still don't remember," they said, voice neither man nor woman. "Even now… you only see something to kill."

Erend and Eccar floated in place. They have no idea what that figure was saying. And for the first time since entering this world, they truly looked at their enemy.

"Who the hell are you?" Erend asked.

And the god answered, "I am Thar'Zul-Vekar. The one you burned. The forest you defiled. The god you betrayed."

Their hands opened—and the sky cracked with emerald light.
