Chapter 56: Even My Mom Never Hit Me!
"Wow, this is so spicy, Yuu-chan, please finish it for me~"
"This is spicy too… Yuu-chan, please."
"Ha, ha… seriously, this spiciness makes you question life…" Panting, Haruno stuck out her small, red tongue, quickly chugging the milk beside her to soothe the burn before finally breathing a sigh of relief.
"Huu… but it's so good, thrilling…"
She wiped the sweat from her forehead, hiding a trace of worry in her eyes, then looked at Yuu with a smile, winking and deliberately asking:
"Yuu-chan, you okay? You're already so handsome for finishing two hell-level dishes. No need to push yourself further."
"Hm? I'm not pushing myself." Yuu scooped up a few bites of rice, finishing the shop's special mapo tofu that had nothing going for it but spice, then looked at her calmly.
"Keep ordering. Whatever you get, I can handle it."
Haruno's brows twitched, her mouth slightly agape.
Before she could speak, Yuu flashed a cold, devilish smile, his voice low: "Of course, you have to take one bite first…"
"You take one bite, I'll finish the plate. Let's see who gives up first. Fair, right?"
In a fancy restaurant like this, the portions weren't too large; as long as his stomach could handle it, his mouth and digestive system could too.
As for whether Haruno would end up contemplating life on the toilet later, that wasn't his problem… Just eat properly, why court trouble? That's her own fault.
How many times had she hit a wall with him, yet she still hadn't learned?
Haruno obediently shut her mouth, puffing out her cheeks, looking annoyed.
"Yuu-chan, you're a total monster."
Yuu calmly wiped his mouth: "Thanks for the compliment. So, the next stop on this 'culinary journey'…"
"Of course, we're continuing. I'm used to this level of spice. But don't worry, ordering recklessly like this is the last time. If I made Yuu-chan sick, I'd be so sad~"
"As if anyone believes you."
Haruno grinned at him.
Yuu silently prayed in his heart.
(System, please, give me a permanent spicy immunity skill or status soon!)
(Being this woman's rental boyfriend doesn't require money—it requires a life!)

After lunch, they took the day's shopping receipt to the first floor to exchange for a raffle ticket.
"Who's drawing?" Haruno glanced at him.
"The one who said they'd cover all expenses today draws."
Yuu gestured for her to go ahead, feeling the staff's odd stare again.
(Tch, what's with the look? Never seen a kept man?)
"Alright, I'll do it~ I offer Yukino-chan's popularity with guys as a sacrifice—draw!"
She exclaimed, then pulled a slip of paper.
Written on it: One box of tissues.
Haruno didn't hide her frustration, sighing and staring at the paper with cold, dark eyes.
"Yukino-chan's popularity with guys can't be used as a sacrifice… Which guy made my offering mantra fail?"
Yuu patted her shoulder, his face resigned: "You're too dramatic. Go claim the prize."
Haruno suddenly turned, glaring at him sharply, her voice low and urgent:
"It's you, isn't it? The guy who saw Yukino-chan once and stole her heart!"
Curling his middle finger, Yuu unhesitatingly flicked her forehead.
"What nonsense. I haven't even stolen your heart—how could I steal your sister's?"
Second cheesy pickup line!
But since he said it jokingly, Yuu felt no shame—as long as he wasn't embarrassed, someone else would be.
"…"
Blinking, Haruno stared at him in shock, as if doubting those words really came from his mouth.
Though cheesy and cringe, it felt very much like a male lead in a novel who effortlessly charms women, always able to stir emotions unintentionally.
…But she wasn't easy to deal with.
The corner of her mouth twitched upward, and just as Haruno was about to tease him, her quick mind shifted. She stepped back, clutching her forehead.
Then, lowering her brows, she looked at Yuu expressionlessly, speaking in a cold tone:
"Just a rental boyfriend, and you dare… Even my mom never hit me."
"Are you Amuro?"
"My dad wouldn't dare hit me either. Loving a daughter is one thing, not daring to hit is another… Both us sisters studied Aikido."
"I don't care how spineless your dad is… Whatever, I'll wait over there."
Yuu rubbed his forehead, sighing deeply, waving his hand before standing aside, waiting for her to grab the tissues and event registration card.
"…Hah."
Haruno looked at his back. In the heavily air-conditioned mall, she unconsciously fanned her flushed cheeks.
"His attitude really shifts drastically… Well, but this isn't bad!"
Muttering to herself, she turned with a full smile, talking to the staff while holding the paper.
Soon after, Haruno walked to his side, and Yuu naturally took her hand.
A jolt like static electricity shot through her, her heart racing. She reflexively let go, her fingertips trembling slightly.
Yuu was full of question marks: "What's wrong?"
(She was so eager and happy holding hands earlier—why's she acting like this after grabbing tissues?)
"Hm…"
As if surprised herself, Haruno bit her lip, clutching her hand, standing still in thought for a moment before casually extending it back to him as if nothing happened.
"Nothing, maybe static electricity!"
"Really… Good thing it's nothing."
Yuu didn't press further, grasping her now-warmer hand tightly again.
Like an ordinary couple, they walked side by side toward the Super Grand Prize contest venue.
Many couples were already waiting for the event to start. They joined the crowd and completed registration.
The event was shrouded in mystery—no one knew what was coming, only that it was an obstacle-course-style competition.
Buzzing discussions filled the air, making the first-floor hall as noisy as a high school assembly before teachers restored order.
The event started promptly at 1 p.m. The female host took the stage to hype the crowd and announce the rules:
"This event has over forty couples participating. We'll go through a simple mini-game to select the top ten couples before moving to the next round!"
The crowd below erupted, each group discussing who would step up. Most men rolled up their sleeves, declaring they could pass this one-in-forty elimination round.
But Yuu firmly pushed Haruno forward—compared to cheering from the sidelines, she'd likely prefer being active on stage.
At least, that's what he thought.
Then, when the staff raised an electronic dartboard, advertising it as the elimination tool for the event, Haruno looked at Yuu, holding back laughter, her gaze saying—You know what I mean.
Yuu was speechless. Pushed by her, he reluctantly joined the queue.
"Both the target and darts are the latest electronic products, with unquestionable scoring accuracy… Interested customers, please purchase at the sports center on the second floor—now on sale!"
After another ad, the staff began letting participants throw darts.
Yuu turned and asked Haruno:
"Flashy or low-key?"
Haruno didn't speak, just tilted her head, her eyes soft, gazing at him with a meaningful smile.
A loving look, brimming with endless longing.
—Got it.
This time, Yuu understood.
He stepped onto the stage, took the darts from the staff, his eyes suddenly sharpening, locking onto the red bullseye.
Hardly anyone saw his throwing motion—he flicked his wrist three times, the sound of rushing air audible.
*SWISH!* *SWISH!* *SWISH!*
Three darts landed in sequence, their tips piercing the bullseye, tails fanning out in a perfectly neat triangle.
The scoreboard above instantly displayed 150—the simplest scoring mode, one bullseye worth 50 points.
The crowd fell silent.
Yuu nodded, shrugging off the stares, and casually walked off the stage.
If he weren't worried the machine would only count one score, he could've thrown all three darts at once, hitting the bullseye simultaneously.
Technology has its limits.
"…"
In the silence of the entire room, only Haruno cheered "Yay~" while clapping, smiling with immense joy and satisfaction.
