When the "Shonan Coast" was mentioned, Eriri Spencer Sawamura's eyes lit up with uncontrollable excitement.

"Lucien, the Shonan Coast is the exact road Rukawa Kaede takes every day when he rides to Shohoku High School, right?" she asked eagerly, leaning forward as if she already knew the answer but needed to hear it confirmed.

Lucien D. Blackthorn, sipping casually from his drink, gave a small nod. "Mm. That's right."

"Hehe, I knew it! The scenery there looks exactly the same as in Slam Dunk…" Eriri's voice carried the joy of someone who had just stumbled into one of their favorite manga panels brought to life.

Without meaning to, she had ended up making a pilgrimage — standing in the very spot where Rukawa Kaede passed by every morning on his way to school. The realization alone filled her with giddy satisfaction.

"By the way, Lucien, guess who I met while I was on Enoshima?" she said suddenly, a mischievous smile curling her lips.

Lucien tilted his head, pretending to think, but gave up almost immediately. "Rukawa Kaede?" he said with a deliberately straight face.

"Pfft!" Eriri nearly doubled over with laughter, clutching her stomach.

"Rukawa Kaede? Hahaha! Lucien, seriously? That was so lame it's funny…!" she gasped between bursts of laughter, her twin tails bouncing with each movement.

Even Lucien couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction. "Alright, alright. So who was it?"

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Eriri straightened and spoke with deliberate drama. "Sakurajima Mai."

Lucien's eyes widened slightly. "Mai Sakurajima?"

"Yes!" Eriri puffed out her chest in pride. "The Mai Sakurajima. She debuted as a child actress and became even more popular as a teen idol. She was filming in Enoshima that day. I even got to take a picture with her — and I got her autograph!"

She quickly pulled out her phone and sent Lucien the photo: Eriri beaming beside Mai, who looked effortlessly elegant even in casual clothes.

Kanagawa Prefecture's famous island "Enoshima" is located in Fujisawa City, not in Kamakura. The straight-line distance between Fujisawa and Kamakura is less than seven kilometers, and the Enoden Electric Railway links them like two pages of the same story.

To many visitors — and even some locals — the two cities feel like one continuous coastal world.

In Slam Dunk, the Akagi family lives in Fujisawa, and Rukawa Kaede is also from there. Every morning, he rides his bike from Fujisawa to Shohoku High School in Kamakura.

In the real world, Fujisawa has its own celebrity image ambassador — Mai Sakurajima herself. A native of Fujisawa, she is currently a senior at Tateminehara High School while continuing her acting career.

Of course, the so-called "puberty syndrome" she is known for in the drama Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai is just fiction. In reality, Mai's career focuses on projects in Yokohama, Fujisawa, and Kamakura.

That day, she was in Enoshima filming the final scene of a suspense drama.

In the show, Mai plays the daughter of the protagonist — a retired detective. After accidentally discovering a black-market deal by a criminal syndicate, her character is kidnapped and taken to Enoshima. The detective, determined to rescue her, fights a desperate battle with the organization and ultimately sacrifices his life.

It was a storyline steeped in the gritty heroism of the Showa era.

After the last take wrapped, Mai and the cast went to a seaside restaurant in Nanarihama to celebrate. Following dinner, she and her manager, Ryoko, decided to walk along the Shonan Coast to unwind.

The salty breeze kissed her skin, and the rhythm of the waves against the shore soothed her as they strolled. The walk eventually led them to Kamakura High School Station — a spot that anime fans around the world recognized instantly.

Just then, an Enoden train approached, its rattling wheels clattering gently against the tracks.

To Mai's surprise, Ryoko suddenly grew visibly excited, pulling out her phone and snapping more than a dozen photos in rapid succession.

"Ryoko?" Mai tilted her head. "What's with the sudden burst of energy?"

Ryoko's eyes shone. "This… is a pilgrimage!"

"A… pilgrimage?"

"It's when you visit places where anime characters have appeared and try to feel what they felt," Ryoko explained with the enthusiasm of a true fan.

Mai chuckled. "And which anime are we paying homage to right now?"

Ryoko's voice brimmed with pride. "Slam Dunk!"

Ryoko had become obsessed with the manga only recently, after her younger brother — a member of his school's basketball team — recommended it. At first, she had no interest in sports manga, but upon realizing the story unfolded in her hometown, she gave it a try.

One volume later, she was hooked. She adored Sakuragi Hanamichi and Rukawa Kaede… in that way.

Yes — Ryoko was a fujoshi through and through. In her mind, Sakuragi and Rukawa were destined for each other, and as for Akagi Haruko… well, she didn't even register on the radar.

For weeks, Ryoko had been following every update from Whale — the pen name of Lucien D. Blackthorn — who was serializing his reimagined Slam Dunk commentary and analysis online. So, being at the real-life location from the manga felt like stepping directly into the pages themselves.

Mai could only shake her head and smile at her manager's infectious excitement, unaware that somewhere back in Fujisawa, Lucien himself was hearing this story second-hand from Eriri — and already imagining how to turn it into his next scene
