chapter 1
0 – Prologue
‘This run’s clear too, no sweat.’
I stretched, a satisfied smile on my face.
<Silver Ring>.
A fusion fantasy game, set in a world where martial arts rend the sky and magic flies.
Silver Ring’s strength, and its weakness, is simple: notorious difficulty, and an endless sea of hidden elements.
But a guy like me? I didn’t give up.
I am… the owner of the title given only to the user who sets the most awe-inspiring record in Silver Ring. The ‘Conqueror’. The result of endless, infinite tries.
After the familiar ending credits rolled past.
[ 100th Run Clear Bonus. A powerful Celestial Blessing will be granted when creating a new character. ]
“……Huh?”
I tilted my head at the appearance of the awkward phrase.
A Celestial Blessing?
For thousands of hours, I’ve been playing Silver Ring like it’s a meal, going up and down the rankings, but I don’t remember ever seeing something like this. Not only that, but I haven’t heard of it anywhere in the community either.
“Hold on a sec.”
Calming my mind, I pressed the ‘Create New Character’ button. And then, the familiar UI screen appeared.
But within that familiarity, there was an awkward part.
“What… is this?”
[ Remaining Trait Points : 9,999,999 ]
The state of the points is strange.
Silver Ring is a game that boasts a free character design, where players can shape their characters to their liking.
Normally, when creating a character, you had to make an effective combination within 100 points.
But ten million points? And even Mythic grade traits, normally unavailable, are at the top of the list.
[ Sword Deity (劍神) ]
Grade : Mythic (UR)
Effect : The ‘talent’ for swords will ultimately bloom. Gain a powerful buff when wielding a sword.
“Can I really pick this?”
It was shimmering with rainbow light, and by the looks of it, it was a far cry from ordinary.
Anyway, this was something that could only make your eyes widen.
Originally, Mythic grade traits cannot be obtained through normal means.
Only obtainable through abysmal odds late in the scenario, yet here it was, a mythic trait, available from the very start!
A mythic trait, infamous for breaking balance. Having this from the get-go, its incredible performance was already plain as day.
*Gulp.*
My hand danced across the mouse, selecting the trait without hesitation.
A satisfied expression settled on my face as I slowly scrolled through the ‘Available Trait List.’
“Sword God, Genius, Overlord, Divinity… I need to pack all the mythic traits, first and foremost.”
Mythic traits, normally so hard to come by, were practically falling at my feet. Naturally, each boasted overwhelmingly powerful performance.
‘Men are always about the sword, after all. My concept is set with just the sword, so I don’t need other weapon traits.’
While only one weapon mastery, the sword, was there, the other traits would certainly give it a leg up.
In the past, the point cost was so high, you had to be saddled with debuff traits. But not now.
[Selected Trait List]
[Sword God]
[Genius]
[Overlord]
[Dark Moon]
[Divinity]
[Clear Mind]
[Composure]
[Fighting Spirit]
[Insight]
[Sharpness]
[Cold-Blooded]
…and 13 other traits.
My eyes devoured the selected traits, as if savoring their taste, before I scrolled down.
I’d picked all the worthwhile traits. The remaining ones were mostly trash like ‘Sickly’ or ‘Puny’.
“Looks like there’s nothing left to add.”
Even now, it was sure to be a level of performance that’d blow my mind. But something felt… lacking.
I didn’t know what this powerful heavenly blessing meant, but with so many points still left, I couldn’t just finish the trait selection here.
“Huh?”
The scroll had reached the very bottom of the trait list.
Where there should have been ordinary traits, traits that wouldn’t even catch my eye normally…
Something unusual was visible.
[ Turbulent ]
Rank: Mythic (UR)
Effect: Drastically increases the probability of all events occurring.
The shimmering rainbow hue was extraordinary. It was the first time I’d seen this trait, but the rank was definitely Mythic.
‘Was there a trait like this?’
I couldn’t help but hesitate at the sight of this unfamiliar trait.
Even its name was suspiciously ambiguous. But the system UI wouldn’t lie, so I nonchalantly added it to my list of traits.
“Is this something new they patched in? I guess I’ll just add it.”
I finished choosing my traits with a satisfied smile.
The chosen class was the romantic Swordsman, and my initial talent was the high-potential Return of the King. Everything was set up to my preference.
[ Welcome, Successor. ]
The familiar intro began. After a long and tedious introduction to the world’s lore, a line of dialogue appeared on the monitor, one I’d never seen before.
[ We sincerely wish you the best in your second life. ]
“Huh?”
I was a veteran player of Silver Ring. So, I’d never even heard of a message like this existing before. What’s more, Successor? Second life? What kind of dog-eating-grass nonsense was this?
[ We pray that you will save… the wretched world… ]
*FWOOSH!*
“Ugh!”
I tried to quickly move the mouse, but suddenly, a burst of light emanating from the monitor reflexively forced my eyes shut.
My mind grew hazy, and my vision blacked out.
That was my last memory.
