Chapter 144 - M107CQ Barrett
Chapter 144 M107CQ Barrett
* * *
───BOOM!
“Whoa!”
A flash of light burst from the missile pod.
The missile, leaving a trail of white smoke across the sky, accelerated in an instant, crossing over a hundred meters and getting sucked into the window frame that had just spit out a .50 BMG round.
The moment the high-explosive shell reached the center of the room, the flash turned into a fireball. Through the window frame, a burst of noise, black smoke, flames, and large debris erupted, and the third floor where Dice had been standing collapsed completely.
The stairs where she had stood shattered next. Everyone gasped at the horrific sight, like a freshly steamed bun being smashed by a fist.
However, as the floor of the third floor, which was also the ceiling of the second floor, collapsed diagonally, a single cry of shock spread mouth-to-mouth.
Wow, what kind of missile is that? Insane.
Not enough with miniguns and machine guns, those damn guys ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
When did Juggernaut with a rocket pod appear ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Dice isn’t showing as dead on the UI???
Honestly, it was an overkill ㅋㅋ
The mixture of shattered concrete, the smoke from the explosives, and other elements caused thick white dust to billow out from the building. Several seconds passed, but no movement was detected nearby.
It didn’t show any message in the kill log indicating she was dead. Her name still hadn’t disappeared from the current session’s participant list. She might have been stuck in an interaction bug with the object, or buried somewhere.
However, that wasn’t of great importance. More than three seconds had passed with no sign of movement. The explosion and dust had started to settle, and with it, the viewers’ interest began to wane.
But then, amidst the thickening indifference and the diminishing dust, a strange metal figure began to move from the second-floor window frame that had only been spewing smoke.
The cloud of dust shook violently with a boom.
It was Dice.
───Bang!
The missile pod-wielding Juggernaut staggered and dropped the launcher as a bullet, as large as a board marker, struck its body with an ear-splitting roar.
But a Barrett was a Barrett, and it wasn’t a bolt-action.
A pro gamer once said that fighting a Juggernaut was sheer madness. They were intended to be kill zones, and even with good guns, the damage didn’t go through, while the enemy fired a minigun.
The unreasonable firepower disparity made engagements nearly impossible.
Conversely, it meant Dice had the firepower to bridge that gap at this moment and she had no intention of wasting it.
The green and white painted HEAP high-explosive armor-piercing incendiary rounds sped through the air at 853 m/s.
Several times over.
With just two shots, the 90,000-won-a-piece rounds shattered the Juggernaut’s nanomachine barrier. However, the next two shots weren’t so forgiving.
The powerful rounds that could easily penetrate railroad steel hit the Juggernaut’s outer armor, penetrating on impact, igniting the RDX mixture and incendiary inside, and the tungsten carbide penetrator punched through cleanly.
What guaranteed the Juggernaut’s death was the excellent performance of the rear armor plate.
“Ugh…!”
The Juggernaut twisted grotesquely and fell face-first to the ground with two bullets lodged in its body armor.
It was internal ricochet.
The tungsten rounds had pierced the front armor, but lost kinetic energy and couldn’t exit through the back, ricocheting inside its body.
Not one, but two of them. Within seconds, the Juggernaut was dead, its insides pulverized.
But that was just Dice’s first magazine.
“Wow!”
Suddenly, a maniac Juggernaut a crazed ninja killer capable of running over 50 km/h with just a knife, charged from a distance. Dice’s life was in danger.
Two more shots were fired, but it was already hard to hit a human-sized target moving at car speed. Shooting a moving target was always difficult, especially with a Barrett.
So, she pulled out an EMP grenade.
But how to hit?
Before she could finish thinking, she heard a loud noise from the floor below.
Without thinking of throwing it somewhere, she retrieved the Barrett with a new magazine and tossed the EMP grenade on the floor, detonating it, just as her eyes met the maniac Juggernaut climbing the stairs.
The next moment, she saw a blade stopping right in front of her face.
───Bang! Bang! Bang!
“Ahhh!”
So startled that her right hand trembled the problem was, her finger was on the trigger of the M107CQ Barrett. The destructive results were inevitable.
The large muzzle spat out three breaths in an instant.
What followed was a kind of catastrophe, with the EMP disabling the nanomachine barrier and the suit’s body enhancement functions, a board marker-sized bullet flying at Mach 2.5 into the maniac Juggernaut.
Boom.
The maniac Juggernaut was flung onto the shattered concrete debris by the explosion’s aftermath. The damage seen from a distance was enough to be classified as gore in reality.
As the dust settled, Dice barely managed to calm her trembling body and stand up. Having killed two Juggernauts right where she stood meant this place was a kill zone.
Carefully descending to the first-floor stairs, she heard a warning sound from the ceiling.
[Alert: As of this moment, the large simulation room is designated a scan zone. Failure to comply with Juggernaut orders may result in immediate elimination.]
She left the building, advancing cautiously while maintaining cover.
Trying to escape quickly on the pre-scouted path, she found a Juggernaut with a minigun already guarding it. But staying there meant certain death, so she decided to gamble.
In short, she had to take it down before the commotion spread.
It took at least three to four shots to kill a Juggernaut. Two to break the nanomachine barrier, and the remaining two… had to hit somewhere. In other words, she had to endure the Barrett’s rapid-fire recoil at least five times.
She took a deep breath, shifted her weight to her extended left leg, and lowered her body slightly to offset the recoil. She imagined the detestable guy. She didn’t think about whether she could do it or not.
She just did it.
The heavy recoil swept through Dice’s body.
────Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
The hexagrid barrier burst into the air as the bullets hit. Her aim was slightly off due to the difficulty, so it took three bullets to break the nanomachine barrier.
Despite barely controlling the recoil, the muzzle still jerked wildly. But that played to her advantage.
The heavy groan from the enemy followed.
“Ugh…!”
Dice’s gaze fixed on the Juggernaut.
After breaking the barrier, one shot hit the torso, but due to the extreme recoil, another shot from the slightly raised muzzle hit the armored helmet directly.
Three shots used on the maniac Juggernaut. Five shots fired at the minigun Juggernaut. Dice still had two bullets left. And she barely controlled the rising recoil.
The kneeling Juggernaut landed on her crosshair next.
Her index finger moved twice, and the enemy fell to the ground.
“Wow.”
Was this… a sniper rifle?
The firepower was simply awe-inspiring.
As the empty box magazine fell to the floor, she quickly exited through the unguarded exit, leaving behind the headless minigun Juggernaut’s corpse.
Another Barrett devotee was born.
[Harmony: Teacher~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!]
[Harmony: Congratulations on being selected as the Korean representative for Dark Zone AP!!!!!!!!]
[Harmony: I can’t believe I’m being taught by such a precious person (´▽`)]
Preliminary selection.
Or pre-selection.
A rare opportunity that even pro gamers could hardly experience although communication with players from other teams remained impossible, and even with teammates, it was impossible outside of break times, nonetheless.
Of course, that wasn’t the end. It also included not being able to log out or synchronize with reality.
However, it became possible to communicate externally to some extent, and above all, there was no need to play the remaining games anymore that alone was quite rewarding.
No matter how little you move, you get tired, and I wasn’t fond of moving much.
“Ha.”
It was quite an anticlimactic end for something I had been working on for a few weeks.
But thinking positively, it felt like I had achieved some small results, leaving me with a sense of relief. Though other pro gamers would be shocked to hear this, I still had many stairs to climb.
With everything sorted out, the things I had forgotten started to bubble up. Harmony’s message made some things more specific.
In short, the main mission’s progress was almost complete. In other words, max level.
Additionally, since Harmony’s collaboration ended yesterday, there were no more scheduled events.
Harmony knew this well.
[Harmony: Shall we start pushing the main mission again from next Monday? Hehe]
[Harmony: I’m watching Yoo Jin’s personal streaming right now, if it’s okay, please make a circle with your fingers ㅋㅋㅋ]
…Come to think of it, there was such a function.
To discuss how I knew this, we have to go back a bit.
After the event match, Dice said she touched my tail. At first, I didn’t know what she meant, but then she said she entered
the participant’s cam and synchronized sensations. Since we usually hung out together, I would’ve granted her request if she had asked, but she did it secretly.
I bonked her on the head for being cheeky.
Anyway, going back, she was saying there was such a function. Harmony must be watching with that feeling now.
I lay on the virtual reality-implemented bed since it was also virtual reality, I had set my tail as a separate variable, allowing me to lie on my back comfortably I thought about what to do, then slowly raised my tail.
As I made a simple circle with it, messages poured in like a storm.
[Harmony: ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
[Harmony: Teacher, that’s so amazing ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ]
What’s so amazing about this….
Moreover, it was noisy for other reasons, so I manipulated my fingers to see if a message would appear about opening the chat window, which I didn’t really want to open, but opened anyway,
ㅜㅑ
ㅜㅑ ㅜㅑ ㅜㅑ ㅜㅑ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heuhng Noona…I think my ophidiophobia will be cured….
Wow, that’s really amazing ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Forbes’ Top 1 Ophidiophobia Cure, Yoo Jin ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
“If you keep this up, I’m going to end the broadcast.”
These perverted sex maniacs.
I understood them, but that didn’t mean I had to indulge them. After scolding the weird ones who had sneaked into my room, the chat window finally quieted down.
Since my name was still on the KSM participation list, I couldn’t reply to Harmony hastily, so I had to employ a strategy. These guys… though, compared to an obsession with other body parts, this seemed better.
Anyway, let’s end this topic. It was time to analyze Dice’s play.
Where did I last see? Retracing my memory, the answer came quickly. It was after the desperate battle with Juggernauts in the large simulation room, where she had escaped outside.
Why didn’t she just carry something convenient? Why the sudden obsession with the Barrett?
“Huh.”
Of course, my facial muscles played along with my inner thoughts.
Still, a disciple… should I call her that? When someone you taught plays well based on what you taught them, it’s natural to feel good.
As I remained still, a message followed.
[Harmony: Is something making you happy, teacher?]
I answered nonchalantly.
“Well, wouldn’t I feel good if the person I taught is doing well?”
The chat window was filled with question marks at my sudden words, but my focus was elsewhere on Dice.
Wowww, finally─!
“Is being first place that great?”
Watching her cry on the high-value research facility, with no one left around, before the second-place body vanished into a light, I muttered softly.
“Congratulations.”
