Chapter 113 - Big Sister
Chapter 113 Big Sister
* * *
“…A special broadcast?”
The news that Yoo Jin would be the commentator spread quickly.
First, the analysts of each team, who collected even the smallest details about Yoo Jin, moved. The analysts checked the announcements on the ICARUS Korean branch’s homepage created when the AP tournament officially began, uploaded the broadcast schedule and match details Yoo Jin would handle, and distributed them on the internal network of their teams.
Everyone’s reactions varied slightly, but on the other hand, the fact that there were reactions indicated interest and the analysts took this as a positive signal. In other words, it meant something like this:
If someone wins first place in the match Yoo Jin is watching, wouldn’t they receive some kind of feedback during the interview? Or even just participating in the room she’s commentating on, wouldn’t they get some level of free feedback?
Regrettably, the logic of the world always stemmed from money power. And a bit of moral responsibility. Furthermore, since it was revealed that Yoo Jin was working as a temporary coach at SSM, it was impossible to bring her to their own teams.
Therefore, it was like a free opportunity rolling in.
Of course, just entering the room where Yoo Jin was commentating required being one of the 16 players, and even if one managed to enter, it was evident that achieving first place among the 100 players would be a thorny path. It was considered unrealistic.
Thus, the materials distributed on the internal network by the analysts were no more than a recommendation: ‘Try it if you get the chance.’
However, as always, the perspectives of analysts and actual pro gamers were different.
“Is there anyone who wouldn’t do this?”
“It’s not like doing it wears you out, so why wouldn’t you?”
The incomparable skills of pro gamers were their raison d’être.
Therefore, they had no choice but to be sensitive to their relative superiority or inferiority compared to others. If the feedback they received was from an unknown person, they wouldn’t even look at it.
But conversely, if it was feedback from someone with the skill to convince even pro gamers and make them seek her out for evaluation, then pros would pay attention and move towards her.
Yoo Jin was such a person.
In less than a day, two user groups began heated discussions about Yoo Jin’s commentary for different reasons. Those who simply played or watched Dark Zone were excited, and those in or planning to enter the pro scene were interested in potential feedback.
Moreover, those connected with SSM, where Yoo Jin was currently active as a coach, often asked questions to the team’s pro gamers, even to the trainees under her guidance.
Of course, this didn’t mean SSM was immune to the atmosphere. They were under Yoo Jin’s influence and had to at least demonstrate that they had improved compared to before.
As always, only she was the eye of the storm.
“If you’re lacking in reaction speed or adaptability, you have to make up for it with experience. If you want to improve quickly, you need to move accordingly. I’ll gradually reduce action correction in the future, so get used to it as soon as possible.”
“Yes, ma’am…!”
“Again.”
Beep!
Of course, that Yoo Jin was busy scolding Harmony.
It was the usual routine.
“Hello, everyone! Welcome to the last day of the weekend, leading into next Monday. The end of the preliminary rank that has been ongoing for six days is finally in sight. I sincerely thank the many viewers who have followed along so far!”
Deafening cheers and applause echoed through the stadium.
The end of the weekend, leading into Monday. Yet, everyone gathered there shared their hopes, desires, and joy, as if they wouldn’t let such a trivial fact bother them. As if they wouldn’t imagine a tomorrow turned to ashes, they were burning everything.
The stadium had expanded to the point where it could now accommodate 150,000 people.
On average, it held 30,000 people, and in exceptional situations like yesterday, 80,000. Considering that even when Harmony brought in 35,000, it couldn’t fill the 80,000 seats, this was an unprecedented situation. Especially since almost all 150,000 seats were filled today.
The reason everyone gathered today was simple.
“Today, many people have gathered here. I think I know why. Many have come to support the players participating in today’s match, but personally, I think many have gathered for the special commentary by that person. Am I right?”
Yes───!
In reality, the roaring sound that would shatter eardrums poured out as a single voice, an acoustic attack. However, by the time it reached the caster, it was reduced to a level that could be ignored.
But even if countless people were cheering for one person, unfortunately, according to the script, she couldn’t appear just because they wanted her to. Of course, if they blatantly announced that fact, those cheers would turn into boos.
Considering that, it was indeed a bit scary.
“Haha, but before we introduce the person you are waiting for, we still have some things to discuss. Introducing myself and the other caster here before such a reaction makes me envious. Anyway, let’s move on quickly. I’m Liquid, the first caster for today’s commentary. Nice to meet you.”
“I’m Meerkat, the second caster. Nice to meet you.”
A mix of courteous and genuine applause poured out enthusiastically.
After the brief introductions, the seats for the commentators began to transform. The seats elongated horizontally, and a new chair appeared. Even those who were not particularly interested began to realize what was happening.
The last member they wanted so much was making her appearance.
“Then, without further ado, please welcome our special guest and commentator! Let’s give a big round of applause for today’s special commentator, Yoo Jin! Please come out!”
A thunderous roar erupted.
Silver powder quickly gathered at one point, forming polygons. They swiftly condensed, creating a human shape. As the light flashed, it sculpted long hair reaching the shoulder blades. Looking down, a tail wriggling around the waist was materializing.
A relatively sharp gaze. Between those eyes, clear sapphire-like blue eyes stared around. As she cautiously exhaled, that breath became a fuse, adding applause to the cheers.
With a small smile, she faced the stadium and the densely packed crowd above it.
The microphone that automatically generated on her collar transmitted Yoo Jin’s voice.
“Hello, everyone. I’m Yoo Jin, and I will be acting as a special commentator today.”
Then, a near-deafening chant followed.
Tens of thousands of people were calling out her name. Even though it was somewhat attenuated, the heavy waves in the air were enough to make the commentary seat shake. Yet, as always, she remained calm, without a hint of tension.
As Yoo Jin slowly walked to the rightmost seat and sat down, a scene resembling the cockpit of a futuristic aircraft unfolded. Numerous holograms and virtual buttons were projected.
Due to the expedited training, there was no difficulty in the operation.
As she was operating various things, it proved that a lot of private conversations that viewers couldn’t hear were happening at the commentary table.
“Hello, Yoo Jin. I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m Liquid, the first caster. This is Meerkat. There will be many parts centered on you, so even if you get nervous, we’ll help you relax. So, I think it would be good if you could participate in the commentary without worrying too much.”
“I’m Meerkat. Nice to meet you. I was really curious about how you play the game so well. Can I ask you about it after the commentary ends?”
“Yes, nice to meet you, Liquid and Meerkat.”
Most of the commentary table operations were handled by the professional commentators, so she sat down and looked ahead.
Today’s map was the Atakaya volcanic island. A place where a volcano randomly generates on the island, and fast-flowing lava or hot gas forms kill zones. Additionally, there was the Revolution where a huge volcanic bomb falls into the sea opposite the volcano, causing a tsunami.
While focusing on the commentary, the chat window popped up, and a comment flew in.
“──Yes, that’s the basic explanation of this map, but we can’t help but hear the evaluation of an actual user here. What do you think about this map, Yoo Jin?”
“The basic context is similar to the research complex. AP maps can be strategized depending on whether or not you can withstand the kill zones, but here, the gimmicks are extremely deadly and varied. I think it will be a typical play where those who secure the safe zone first will have an advantage.”
Information)Yoo Jin captured people in the safe zone and threw them into the path of the flowing lava.
Special commentator go~
What? Does that mean she wants to drown all the scaredy-cats?
Setting aside the view, this map is f*cking hell ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
If you’re unlucky, you get hit by the tsunami, buildings collapse because of the volcanic bombs, f*cking hate this map.
“Haha, thank you for your answer. Then, what about your personal preference for this map, Yoo Jin?”
“Since it relies heavily on gimmicks and Revolution, it creates a situation where rankings are more determined by the presence of safe zones than the players’ skills… So, I somewhat dislike it. However, I think the activation zones that appear near the boundary of the kill zone to break through the safe zone are a good feature.”
Of course, the activation zones didn’t appear as soon as the map started; they were a kind of advantage to consider for those starting on the outskirts to engage in fierce battles for the safe zone.
CQB always favors the defenders, and those behind the lava and falling debris are in a position to storm the stronghold established by those in the safe zone.
It was a well-designed map to prevent one-sided engagements. Still, dislike was dislike.
After that, it was time to conduct pre-interviews with 20 out of the 100 players.
Of course, around this time, the interviews partly transformed into one-on-one Q&As with me, as they all had the desire to advance higher.
I barely remembered the names of a few. At most, there were four or five SSM-affiliated players.
They called me by a different title than other users.
“I’ll do my best, teacher!”
“…Yes. I hope you finish with flying colors. Always keep it in mind during engagements.”
“Yes!”
Unfortunately, Dice seemed to be in a different room.
Clearing my thoughts, I added one more thing.
“Of course, if you get eliminated early, special training awaits you. Does that motivate you?”
“Please, no!”
No wayㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
She’s not a coach, she’s an instructor.
What the heck did they do to beg for mercy?????
If you get trained by her and get eliminated quickly, it makes sense ㅋㅋ
[GEARUP//Arbederchi: Teacher, we’re always ready for special training. Please take care of us^^]
Of course, it had no effect.
While the casters laughed to the point of suffocation, the interview ended, and it looked like the match was about to start.
The beautiful tropical volcanic island, which would soon turn into hell, was waiting for us.
“Yes! The pre-interviews with the last participant are over. Now, it’s time to talk with guns instead of words. Before we start, I have one question for our special commentator, Yoo Jin. Where will you focus your commentary this time?”
“Hmm….”
The answer was obvious.
It was clear what people wanted, and I wasn’t clueless.
I grabbed the mic and added.
“First of all, I want to congratulate all the players who got the chance to participate in the session where I am acting as a special commentator. I know what you all want, and I will do my best to evaluate your movements within the given time.”
The participants would never know, but as long as time and effort allowed, my evaluation wouldn’t stop.
The official purpose was as a special commentator, but there was no reason why ICARUS’s Korean branch, which was hosting this event, couldn’t have anticipated this second purpose.
There was no reason they couldn’t and wouldn’t do it.
“Even if this map is covered in Revolution and hostile natural environments, I don’t think it will tarnish your skills. Please pour all your capabilities into this match.”
And I added one last word.
“I’m watching you.”
Big Brother! Big Brother! Big Brother! Big Brother! Big Brother! Big Brother!
Hey, Big Sister, take me!!!!!!!!!!
Big Sister ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
What? What does she mean by big?
Big Sister is watching you!!!
“Oh dear….”
Of course, no one here seemed to behave.
Thus, I got a new nickname.
Along with the laughter leaking from the other casters.
