Chapter 11: Chapter 11 – A Refreshing Shower! (Bonus chapter)
Snake Cannon—that was the name Ethan Cole put on the registration form. He knew better than to use his real name when getting involved in things like that.
In fact, the name he'd signed with for the wrestling ring was simply "Cannon."
But the announcer clearly liked to play with names. When he saw Ethan wearing an Iron Man helmet, he took it upon himself to call him "Ironhead."
Maybe he thought linking him to Iron Man would boost attention and hype?
Ethan didn't know, and honestly, he didn't care. That chapter was closed.
After working until the early hours of the morning, Ethan finally completed his suit and web-shooters. Exhausted, he slumped over his workbench and dozed off—until the shrill ring of his phone woke him up the next morning.
"Hey, Ethan! Why didn't you come to school? Did you think today was the weekend or something?"
The caller was Gwen, and as the top student in class, she definitely carried a bit of a hall monitor attitude.
Ethan opened his eyes, still groggy, and answered with a lazy smile:
"Thinking about a weekend date with you makes me wish every day was the weekend."
Gwen paused, slightly flustered. Her tone softened.
"I wish the weekend would come sooner too… But it's only Wednesday. You better hurry to school, or you'll lose attendance credit. That could hurt your college application."
Ethan glanced at his freshly finished suit and web-shooters lying neatly on the table.
The temptation to try them out immediately was strong—but not strong enough to overpower common sense.
He packed them carefully into his backpack instead.
After all, it was still broad daylight. He couldn't just start flipping through the city rooftops like Spider-Man without a mask, acting as if no one would notice.
This world had S.H.I.E.L.D., and those people could trace your entire family tree in under five minutes if they wanted to.
Even with a mask, it was safer to begin testing things out at night.
Besides, for someone like him, day and night made little difference in terms of vision.
The rest of the school day went smoothly. His exchanges with Gwen were warm, natural, and more than friendly.
They hadn't officially gone on a date yet, but the chemistry between them was obvious—like the sweet tension of two people just on the verge of becoming something more.
This led to more affectionate interactions, like brushing shoulders and holding hands.
And, of course, academic discussions.
Gwen was a top student and never conceded to anyone academically, not even Ethan Cole, an exchange student with an elite academic background.
High school courses here were quite different from what Ethan was used to, and the study methods and approaches were also unique.
Thus, students who excelled elsewhere didn't always maintain that performance here.
However, after discussing with Ethan, Gwen realized that the reputation of high-performing students from abroad wasn't exaggerated—their abilities were genuinely impressive.
At least the Ethan Cole in front of her was just as intelligent and accomplished as she was.
This reassured Gwen. She liked strong guys but didn't want a boyfriend who was all brawn and no brains. Ethan fit all her requirements, from looks to height.
Ethan was also happy. Dating a smart girl was easy since he didn't have to endlessly respond to questions like "Does my makeup look good?" or "Is this outfit sexy?" or "Which lipstick shade matches best?"
Ethan wasn't insensitive to girls or relationships, but he definitely couldn't handle those endless, trivial questions.
Ask him to compare C with B, and he was interested, but rose versus caramel for which looked better? He had no clue.
As for lipstick, he had just one question: Can you eat it?
If you ingest a lot of it, would it be toxic?
In the afternoon during activity class, everyone was in the gym—some chatting, some making out, some playing basketball, and some fighting in a corner.
Ethan and Gwen sat together in the stands, casually discussing school topics.
This was almost a typical honor student routine, like Sheldon and Leonard bickering in high-level physics terms you couldn't understand.
Thinking of those two, Ethan suddenly remembered Leonard's girlfriend, Penny.
She had looks that suited Ethan's taste and, with a striking figure, inspired countless memorable lines from the pervy Howard in Season 1, Episode 1:
"Take a refreshing shower!"
"That woman's... assets could support a family of five, with leftovers to open a creamery!"
Unfortunately, the latter line seems to have been cut, or maybe Ethan got the episode wrong?
If Ethan Cole could unlock a girl like Penny, he wouldn't need to worry about college applications—he could go straight to teaching at a university.
Sheldon's girlfriend, Amy, was definitely a no-go—not just because she didn't match Ethan's taste, but also because, despite Sheldon's genius IQ, his emotional intelligence was so low he came off like a total nutcase.
In front of Ethan and Gwen sat a girl with glasses and her hair in a bun, crouching on the gym floor and writing something.
In front of her was a large sheet of paper several meters long, with a small paint bucket nearby.
Ethan was chatting with Gwen and didn't pay much attention at first.
That is, until a basketball bounced over and knocked the girl's paint bucket to the ground.
The ball had come from Thompson, and the girl with the bun immediately stood up in protest.
"You did that on purpose, Flash!"
Thompson instinctively wanted to clap back, but just as he opened his mouth, he noticed Ethan sitting behind the girl.
Ethan, hearing the commotion, turned to look, a smirk already forming on his face.
In that instant, all the bravado drained from Thompson.
Originally, when Ethan saw the paint spill, he thought this might be yet another opportunity to show off. First in the classroom, then in the cafeteria, and now in the gym?
Thank you, Thompson, Ethan thought. You're like a plot device sent by fate to give me cool moments throughout high school.
Let me say thank you, because you bring warmth to all four seasons…
Just thinking about it made Ethan involuntarily smile.
But then, he saw Thompson's smug "Come at me, bro!" expression instantly collapse.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it. I'll be more careful in the future and try not to let the ball hit your area, I promise!"
Hearing this, not only did Ethan feel completely robbed of his chance to act cool, but everyone else in the gym thought they were imagining things.
The school bully Thompson, who never apologized and enjoyed bullying, actually backed
down?
Is today April Fool's Day?
Or, Flash, have you been kidnapped? If so, blink twice.
