Chapter 259: Cats Love Cardboard Boxes

"How do you like it? Do you like it?" Fang Ye asked Jiaojiao with a smile.

Actually, it wasn't necessary to ask; Jiaojiao's demeanor said it all – she clearly liked it!

As Jiaojiao opened her mouth, attempting to bite the flowers, Fang Ye let go.

So, carrying the bouquet in her mouth, Jiaojiao took brisk little steps to a large rock behind the pond, a spot where she often rested, and placed the flowers there.

It was her nook in the outdoor exhibit. After all, these were flowers from the zoo director! And they smelled lovely, perfect for sniffing at leisure during a break.

After setting the flowers down, she hurried back, her focus returning to the cardboard box.

She sized up the box and then stood on her hind legs, placing her paws on the edge of the box, and peered curiously inside, resulting in the box tipping over and emitting a subtle tearing sound of cardboard with a "tssk."

If it weren't for the box's increased durability, just Jiaojiao's standing on it would have easily flattened it!

Why did it suddenly fall over!

Startled by the noise from the box, Jiaojiao quickly leaped back two meters, lowering her body to watch it from a distance. Realizing the box made no further movements and seeing Fang Ye standing to the side holding Ice Cake with a smile, she calmed down and slowly approached again.

This was her first encounter with a cardboard box, and she still found it unfamiliar.

The opening of the box, which faced upwards, now faced her, dark and foreboding. But to Jiaojiao, it had an irresistible allure!

Squatting down, she nudged the drooping cardboard flap with her forehead and gently crawled in.

Although the box was quite large, so was the cat that was trying to fit inside. Jiaojiao entered and immediately filled the space.

She looked like a big orange dumpling squeezed inside!

As she wriggled to turn around inside, the box, though sturdy, couldn't withstand such a push and deformed with a snap! The base of the cardboard also opened up.

Jiaojiao noticed a gap that had appeared before her eyes, just the right size for her head to poke through.

She seemed a bit confused. Why had another opening appeared here?

But then she stopped thinking about it and looked out comfortably from inside, her body tilting to one side as she repeatedly rubbed her head against the cardboard.

As she rubbed, her body changed from a prone to a supine position, front paws gripping the edge of the box, pressing her cheeks and chin tighter against the cardboard. Her big head scrubbed back and forth on it, her eyes contentedly half-closed as she appeared extremely satisfied!

While rubbing against the box, her hind legs sticking out were kicking as if swimming.

After rubbing on one side, she flipped over but still lay on her back!

The onlookers couldn't help but smile as they watched Jiaojiao play happily in the box, "Ha-ha, my cat also loves sitting in cardboard boxes!"

"It seems that all cats, big or small, share the same love for cardboard boxes."

"Rubbing back and forth, so cute!"

"I've got a bold idea, maybe when we see tigers, we can just give them a box to crawl into, then seal the box and bring it home."

"Ha-ha, why bother with all that, you might as well go in with a scoop."

Ice Cake, nestled in Fang Ye's arms, was squirming and squealing, wanting to jump out and play with the box. However, Fang Ye was worried about the cramped space inside the box, and if Jiaojiao turned over, she might accidentally press down on Ice Cake. Even if he was careful not to crush Ice Cake, it wouldn't be able to enjoy itself as much as it was now.

So he continued to hold it in his arms and cast a soothing skill, which calmed Ice Cake down right away.

Feeling the warmth and comfort in daddy's arms, it even let out a yawn before closing its eyes and falling asleep.

Jiaojiao then wasn't satisfied with just rubbing for itch relief and began to scratch at the cardboard like a cat with a scratching board, biting and gnawing while clawing away, treating the cardboard box like prey and launching an attack. Soon, clear claw marks multiplied on the cardboard, torn and ragged, full of holes.

Getting into it, Jiaojiao suddenly ripped the box apart with a "riiiip"!

After tearing it open, it scratched a bit more, finally feeling content. Now less excited and agitated than before, Jiaojiao leisurely licked its paws, as though savoring the delightful sensation of tearing up the cardboard, then lazily flopped onto the cardboard.

Too comfortable to bother moving!

Fang Ye came up to Jiaojiao, scratching its chin, and said with a smile, "Did you have a fun time today?"

"Roar~"

Jiaojiao imperiously drew Fang Ye into its embrace, amber eyes tenderly gazing at him, rubbing against him with its neck and the soft, white fur on its cheeks.

"Wow!"

The visitors outside immediately let out exclamations of surprise, some of the more timid had already covered their eyes.

After all, they had all clearly seen the tiger tearing apart the cardboard!

The sturdy cardboard was just like tattered cloth beneath the tiger's paws, easily torn asunder.

"It looks so dangerous to be hugged like that, if it were me in the tiger's embrace, I'd die of fright."

"No need to be hugged, my legs would turn to jelly just from being one meter away without barriers or glass!"

"The director is so cool, not scared at all, and seems to be thoroughly enjoying it."

"Truly an Urban Archdruid!"

A young man, who seemed quite bold, exclaimed with shining eyes, "Being so close to a tiger is so cool, I want to hug one too! Imagine the prestige if I posted a selfie like that."

The animal keeper, Bao, quickly said, "Please don't think about getting close to the tigers, they are still wild beasts after all. The director is an exceptional case, beloved by animals, it's not something ordinary people can replicate. We just saw how fierce tigers can be.

Even though we animal keepers take care of the wild beasts every day, providing them with food, sometimes we can still face aggression. If a stranger went over carelessly and made the tiger feel threatened, they would definitely be attacked.

Moreover, the director's closeness with the animals is not just for looking cool, but to show everyone that wild beasts can also have a gentle and peaceful side, hoping that people can let go of the stereotypical image or prejudice of fierceness and cruelty regarding wild animals."

The staff were of course curious why Fang Ye would take such a risk to get close to wild animals, but this was the official explanation Fang Ye gave.

In reality, there was that reason, but more importantly, he had the system to keep him unafraid of danger, and petting big cats felt really good.

Not only was their fur pleasant to touch, but being with the animals made one feel relaxed and purified, forgetting many worries.

These thoughts were not for outsiders to know.

Fang Ye, held in Jiaojiao's embrace, lay on the fresh, green grass, with Ice Cake nestled between them.

The comfortable breeze was blowing, making one want to fall asleep right there.

However, he moved Jiaojiao's paw aside and stood up, affectionately ruffled her head, "As much as I'd like to stay like this, as a director, I have other things to attend to. I'm leaving, you keep playing with Ice Cake, okay?"

Jiaojiao responded with a "Roar~"
