I Have a Pokemon Mystery Dungeon System in a World with Pokemon

Chapter 78: Combat class

"Psst, is that the Shiny Pokemon?"

"Yeah, it doesn't look anything too special though, except for the different color. I thought it would be all glittery or something."

"Stupid! Of course, it doesn't look anything special now. If you saw his battle with Ms. Erika, you would be able to see how it tanked the attack like nothing and then took out Venusaur with one punch!"

Sitting around a cafeteria table, Dante and the girls had just finished their lunch. Everyone in the cafeteria looked at the Azumarill sitting beside Pikachu, curious to know what one of the only Shiny Pokemon in the country looked like.

"You've chosen your third Pokemon? What's inside?"

Furina was constantly poking the glass of the incubator, curiously looking at the egg.

"It's a Teddiursa."

"Teddiursa? How envious~ When they were filming Kung Fu Pancham back then, I had the chance to hug Pancham many times. He was so cute~"

"Horseaa!"

"Hoho! But of course, you're cute too, Marin."

Looking at the dissatisfied Horsea in her lap, Furina giggled and hugged her tighter.

"To be honest, I didn't expect a world-class celebrity to be so…down-to-earth."

Candice was intrigued as she looked at the white-haired girl across from her.

"I understand your feelings. When we first met, I thought she was just an ordinary girl. Thankfully, Pikachu was able to recognize her back then. Otherwise, maybe we wouldn't have been able to know their identities until now just from their demeanor."

"Pika pika!" (That's of course! Whether it's Lady Furina, Sir Pancham, Ms. Gothitelle, or Ms. Hina, I'll recognize them even with a disguise!)

"...How come you've already known so many celebrities in just two months?"

Dante couldn't help but complain after listening to Pikachu. Did he do nothing but watch movies while in this world?

Pikachu put his paws on his hips and looked at Dante, his face had a smug grin as if what he said was a compliment.

Dante shook his head in hopelessness. He shifted his attention away from his movie-addicted Pokemon to the girl in front of him.

"By the way, what was that earlier about Kingdra, Focalors?"

"Ah, it's Father's Pokemon. He lent it to us when he learned that we were going to study here; as a way to protect ourselves."

"Right, I almost forgot to ask! Focalors came to the Philippines to become a stronger Trainer, but why did you come, Furina?"

Under Shinobu's curious look, Furina fidgeted for a moment before replying.

"To accompany my dear sister, of course! Sigh, I don't know what's gotten into her, suddenly saying that she wanted to study in another country. It would have been perfect if we stayed in France, studying there close to Dad and our friends."

Furina gave Focalors the stink eye as she complained.

"I told you, you don't have to accompany me. Didn't you and your best friend agree to enroll in the same school last month?"

"And leave you alone in another country? No way! I already explained it to Serena. She understood my decision."

Looking at Furina's face, she was still clearly angry and confused about Focalor's decision. Shinobu, who saw that the atmosphere was turning bad, tried to divert the conversation.

"How enviable~ It would have been nice to have someone accompany me back then when I left Japan."

"Oh, right, why did you leave Japan anyway, Shinobu?"

"Well, that's because…"

The group continued hanging together until the end of lunch, walking around the campus and looking for suitable places to hang out in the future.

When Dante and the others got back in class, they noticed that a professor was already sitting on the teacher's desk. Dante checked his watch in confusion, confirming that, yes, there were still 20 minutes before their next class.

"Ah, are you students of section 1? No need to be confused, just sit down. We still have 20 minutes before class starts. "

The burly man wearing a professor's coat gave a hearty laugh. His eyes glanced over the group, pausing particularly on Dante and Focalors. The two shuddered in discomfort at the man's gaze.

They quickly took their seats and passed the time until 1 PM.

At this point, everyone had already returned to class, making the professor nod in satisfaction.

"Let me introduce myself! I am Professor Tim, your teacher in Combat class, and also one of the assistants for our university's varsity team. So if any of you want to come and apply for a position there, just come and find me."

The way his eyes stayed in Dante and Focalors' direction when he said that made them finally realize why this professor was so enthusiastic. It turns out he wants to recruit them into the team!

After all, Dante already has a proven track record by virtue of having a Gym Badge. To know, some lower-class universities set the graduation standards for their students to win a single Gym Badge.

Even in higher-class Universities such as this one, the requirement for Trainers is to obtain their first Badge at the end of the second year. And their requirement for graduation is to get the second Badge.

And then there's the upper-class Universities where a Trainer must get one badge per year or they'll: either have to repeat a year, or even be expelled.

Of course, what was mentioned is only the lowest requirement. Some students excel even at lower-class universities, obtaining 3 or more Badges before they graduate. Those kinds of students are typically the ones who represent their school.

"I know that most of you already have a basic knowledge about your classmates. But to truly understand a Trainer, there is nothing better than having a battle against each other! So stand up everyone! Let's go to the battle arena!"

With an enthusiastic shout, Professor Tim led all the students out of the building.

The rest of the students cheered after hearing this. For the majority of them, this is gonna be their first time in a real Pokemon battle. After all, it's only been a month or two since the majority obtained their Trainer IDs and their starter Pokemon.

Outside, Pikachu had just adjusted his phone on the brick and resumed the second episode when he saw Dante and the others coming out. He had to pause it again before returning to Dante's shoulder in confusion.

With Dante's explanation, Pikachu's ears perked up. He saw how famous Azumarill had been after winning the last battle. He hopes that he can be famous too so that he can meet his other favorite celebrities.

At the back of the class, a black-haired teenager's eyes gleamed while looking at Dante and Pikachu. A plan brewing in his mind.

The battle arena is a large, domed building. From how it was designed, its appearance resembled a smaller football stadium. However, instead of a grass field, there was a raised rectangular platform in the middle that served as the battle arena.

"Alright! I've reserved this whole stadium only for our class today. Usually, our combat class is held behind the main building, but since this is the first time for some of you, let's make it more special."

The class cheered hearing Prof. Tim's words. On the side, Dante had a look of nostalgia on his face as he looked at the empty seats around the stadium.

"What are you thinking about?"

"Nothing. Shinobu, what do you think the rooms here look like?"

"Huh?"

Shinobu raised her eyebrow, puzzled as to what Dante meant by that. However, when she saw him looking at her lips, her face gained a shade of red.

During the Rookie Competition, the two shared their first kiss while in the waiting room. D-does he want to recreate that scene?!

"Hey, what are you two talking about?"

"Nothing! Anyway look, Professor is telling everyone to gather. Let's go, Candice!"

"Hey, waitt!"

Dante smiled as he watched Shinobu dragging Candice away. Although she's very curious to try and propose new things to do in bed, her being shy when other people see them being intimate is quite cute.

Shaking his head in amusement, he followed Shinobu and Candice where Professor Tim told them to gather.

"There are 20 of you, so we'll have 10 battles today! Does anyone want to volunteer to be the first?"

As soon as the professor finished his question, Dante suddenly felt many sharp gazes around him.

While his classmates were in awe of Azumarill's strength, as the so-called strongest freshman, the allure of defeating Dante and gaining fame was enough for them to disregard this difference in strength.

"How about it, Focalors? It's your chance to get your revenge against me."

"And make fun of myself in front of everyone on the first day? I'll pass."

"If she doesn't want to, what about me? You up for a fight, Dante?"

A calm and confident voice came from behind. Turning around, Dante saw one of his classmates looking at him provocatively. From what Dante remembered during the introduction, his name was…

"Eric, right? Yeah sure, if you're up to it."

For Dante, it doesn't really matter who he fights. With his Pokemon's strength, it doesn't make a difference even if they have a type advantage against him.

Just as he was about to walk up onto the platform, Eric stopped him.

"Wait a minute! Everyone's talking about how you won your Gym Badge with the Shiny Azumarill, but isn't Pikachu your Starter Pokemon?"

"Yes, so?"

"So how about you use Pikachu, your Starter, in our match? Or can you only rely on your 'Shiny' Azumarill to win your battle?"

Eric deliberately emphasized the Shiny part, as if Azumarill being Shiny was something to be ashamed of.

Dante was amused at the pitiful attempt of a provocation. He and Pikachu looked at each other in tacit agreement, before giving an amiable smile to Eric.

"Sure. I must warn you though, Pikachu is also quite strong."

"Heh, as long as it's not a Shiny or whatever, then it's all fair to me."

Hearing the agreement between the two, the students around became excited. While they admit that Dante's Shiny Azumarill was very powerful, deep inside, most don't think they are inferior to him as Trainers.

With this match, they can finally see Dante's strength when fighting using a normal Pokemon.

Candice was also looking forward to the battle. Although Shinobu had already told her about how Pikachu defeated the Dragonite of Focalor's father, she still remained somewhat skeptical. After all, that was a Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon!

Only Shinobu and Focalors looked at each other in amusement. They were the only ones who truly knew how strong Dante's Pikachu was.
