Chapter 69: January 31
Su Ye wasn't particularly concerned about what to do with the hammer. After all, he couldn't lift it, and it had little to do with him.
He did, however, feel that Genjuro's plan to deliberately take and then return the hammer was overly polite.
Back in the day, so many treasures were looted from the country. Have they been returned? Even if they have, it's only a rare few; most had to be bought back by our own people.
They robbed your ancestors' possessions, then made you buy them back at a high price—that's what Western "civilized society" calls gentlemanly behavior.
What a joke of a "gentleman."
In Su Ye's view, since Genjuro could lift the hammer, why not take it back to the Dragon Nation? As long as they could fend off the Destroyer, Mjolnir would effectively become theirs.
Moreover, taking the hammer to the Dragon Nation might not even provoke the Destroyer, since Loki's true target had always been Thor.
They could seize the hammer, take down Thor, and maybe even establish diplomatic relations with Loki's Asgard.
Tsk tsk...
Loki may be cunning and deceitful, but who isn't a wily old fox? When it comes to schemes, the Dragon Nation fears no one.
Su Ye's plan was feasible, but Master Genjuro wasn't the kind of person to retaliate against petty slights. If he were, he wouldn't have been able to lift Mjolnir in the first place.
A few days later, as he left the U.S. with his disciple, Genjuro casually left the hammer behind in the Shiranui dojo, seemingly just to spite that old rascal Hanzo Shiranui.
Hanzo Shiranui, on the other hand, stopped coming to the dojo altogether. He was nowhere to be seen day or night—who knew if he was off visiting an old flame or had returned to Japan.
This left Qiong and Yuri Sakazaki unable to sleep even more at night.
Seven days a week, thirty-one days in a month—who could put up with that?!
At this rate, they were going to develop nervous breakdowns. During the day, they barely dared speak to Su Ye, as if afraid they'd accidentally get pregnant just by talking to him.
Fortunately, the bar's location was quickly finalized. Su Ye bought an existing bar, changed its sign, and opened for business. Qiong and Yuri moved in on the same day.
They thought that moving out and no longer hearing the nightly "devil's chants" would finally let them get some good sleep.
But who would've thought they'd suffer insomnia on their very first night there...
"Sister Qiong, isn't this a bit too much?"
"It's fine, Yuri. You'll grow up sooner or later!"
Yuri Sakazaki is a transliteration. Her name, when directly translated, means "Lily." Fitting, isn't it?
Recently, Su Ye had been busy at the Shiranui dojo at night and wasn't idle during the day either.
Gwen had been busy, so Su Ye didn't need to disrupt her. Most of his time was instead spent with Dr. Fox.
After his fight with Iron Man, Su Ye took Ivan Vanko's arc reactor and gave it to Dr. Fox for research.
Vanko's arc reactor was functionally and technically almost identical to Tony Stark's second-generation model, the one used in Mark II and War Machine, which also utilized a palladium core.
For Tony Stark, the palladium-based reactor was obsolete. He now used a new element that his father, Howard Stark, had discovered while studying the Tesseract.
Howard Stark had discovered this new element but, constrained by the technology of his time, couldn't synthesize it. Instead, he hid its structure in the design of the Stark Expo venue.
This way, he left no direct clues, preventing ambitious rivals from stealing the secret of the new element. Only his son, who knew him well, could uncover it.
However, for Su Ye, a time traveler, this secret was no secret at all. He had already had Gwen look up the structural blueprints of the Stark Expo. The model had been sitting in Stark Industries' Los Angeles headquarters for decades, making it easy to acquire.
Next, Su Ye had three tasks to accomplish.
The first was to have Dr. Fox help him design a new Batman suit based on the palladium arc reactor, incorporating flight capabilities and long-range projectile weapons.
Of course, the power source had to be well-hidden to prevent enemies from exploiting its weakness.
The second was to learn some physics from Dr. Fox as a foundation for manually creating a new elemental core for the arc reactor.
Iron Man could build a particle accelerator at home to synthesize a new element. Su Ye figured he could manage something similar.
After all, while Spider-Man and Batman weren't as smart as a genius-level inventor, they weren't far behind Iron Man. As long as he was willing to learn, he stood a chance.
The third task was to use [Black Crystal] to create smoke bombs and related devices. However, these had significant limitations, so they weren't a top priority.
One day, after a busy day in the Batcave, Su Ye returned to the Shiranui dojo in the evening and immediately sensed an unusual atmosphere in the surrounding area.
Normally, the dojo's neighborhood was lively, but today, there were many suspicious individuals scattered around, either nearby or at a distance.
Although they were dressed inconspicuously, Su Ye keenly noticed their occasional glances toward the dojo.
They weren't as obvious as the stereotypical plainclothes cops in crime dramas, but to Su Ye's sharp senses, their intent was clear.
So, the dojo was being watched? It must be S.H.I.E.L.D.
Su Ye pondered silently.
Ever since Genjuro left the hammer here, Su Ye knew this day would come, but he hadn't refused to take it.
After all, he had traveled with Genjuro from Beizhen, and their flight records would be easy to trace. If S.H.I.E.L.D. investigated Genjuro, they would inevitably find Su Ye.
This was unavoidable. Genjuro had left the hammer here, and Su Ye couldn't move it anyway. Contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. was only a matter of time.
The only question was how much S.H.I.E.L.D. valued the hammer—whether they'd keep observing in secret or confront him directly.
It seemed S.H.I.E.L.D. placed great importance on the hammer. Not only did they assign dozens of agents to monitor the dojo, but even Director Fury's right-hand man, Coulson, was on-site.
At the entrance of the Shiranui dojo, Coulson stood with his hands clasped, quietly waiting for the owner's return.
Mai Shiranui wasn't around—perhaps she had gone to the bar to show off to Qiong and the others.
Su Ye approached with a smile, glancing at Coulson, who was half a head shorter than him.
"Hello, are you here to sign up your child for martial arts lessons...?"
