Chapter 15: Tonight, Come to My House
Right now?
Right this moment?
Looking at the system's warm reminder, Su Ye's mind overflowed with complaints.
Reaching an affection level of 80 is certainly a happy thing, but what's with this notification?
System, do you know what I'm waiting for? I'm waiting for the right setting, the right mood, the right steps!
We haven't even had an official date yet, no kiss, just held hands once, and you're already pushing me to go further?
And right here in the classroom, in front of all my classmates?
Or should I just pull Gwen into the woods and go further there?
Go where, you stupid system!
It's truly an indecent, idiotic system, only knowing how to stir things up! Doesn't it realize that in a relationship, the heart is what matters most, and intimacy isn't the only way to be happy?
Ignoring the system's prompt, Su Ye looked at Gwen with a calm expression.
It's already Thursday; just two more days. Do you think I can't wait?
System, you underestimate me. As a decent man, I at least have that much self-control.
As for the sanitary pads in Gwen's bag, what are those? Su Ye doesn't recognize them at all. He's still innocent and clueless.
Two days passed in the blink of an eye. Amid Su Ye's… ahem… calm anticipation, the weekend finally arrived.
During the day, Gwen had to intern at Oscorp, so their date was scheduled for the evening.
But with nothing better to do, Su Ye decided to visit the Oscorp building.
The lab where Gwen was interning was led by Dr. Curt Connors, who was researching cross-species genetic transfer with lizard genes – the project that would eventually turn him into the Lizard.
Su Ye needed to check the progress of this project, as it was a potential threat to him.
Having inherited Spider-Man's powers, he understood that he would naturally inherit his enemies as well.
The Oscorp building was in Manhattan, very close to the under-construction Stark Tower, just a five-minute walk away.
Su Ye didn't waste time around the scaffolded Stark Tower but went straight to the Oscorp building.
According to Peter Parker's experience, Su Ye could technically just grab an intern's badge at the front desk and slip inside.
But this method was risky; if none of the interns were Asian, he might get caught.
Also, he didn't want to cause trouble for an innocent intern who came here full of hope for their future, only to be thrown out as a fraud.
With Harry's help, he already had a fake intern badge.
In Dr. Curt Connors' lab, Su Ye stayed low-key in the back, not answering questions to attract attention, simply observing quietly from the crowd.
But like a firefly in the night, despite his efforts to hide, his damn charm still caught Gwen's eye as she led the intern tour.
"So, are you also interning here?" Gwen glanced at his badge and read his alias, "Snake Zhang?"
Snake Zhang was the name on Su Ye's fake intern badge. It didn't sound as powerful as "Snake Cannon," but it suited his low-profile approach.
There were many people named Snake in the gang; Su Ye wasn't worried about anyone linking him to Ironhead Snake Cannon through the badge.
Shrugging, Su Ye smiled and said, "Harry made this for me. After all, you said it yourself, it's the fastest way to get closer to you as an intern here."
"Hehe," Gwen rolled her eyes, though she smiled inside.
"Stay with me, don't wander around, or not even Harry can save you. The lab heads here are quite short-tempered."
"Is Dr. Connors short-tempered too?"
"Not Dr. Connors. He's a good man."
The one-armed hero, Dr. Connors, didn't realize he'd been handed a "nice guy" card out of nowhere.
"By the way, how's Dr. Connors' research going? Has he made any breakthroughs in cross-species genetics?"
Following Gwen on the tour, Su Ye didn't forget his mission of gathering intel.
Gwen shook her head regretfully, "There's an important step Dr. Connors still can't calculate the key data for. So in the short term, it's unlikely he'll achieve any results."
Hearing this, Su Ye felt relieved.
Su Ye secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Harry's arrival signaled that the Green Goblin would soon appear, and if the Lizard were to emerge simultaneously, two battles would be tough for Spider-Man.
Even the strongest hero would struggle against two enemies when evenly matched.
Moreover, Spider-Man wasn't exactly a powerhouse compared to the Green Goblin and the Lizard.
"So, besides studying lizard cross-species genetics, do you study anything else here? Like cockroaches, earthworms, spiders?"
Su Ye asked again. Oscorp's super-spider genetic lab involved Richard Parker's decay rate equation, which ultimately transformed Dr. Connors from one-armed hero to the Lizard.
But Gwen shook her head again, "Why study those? Dr. Connors still hasn't fully understood a single lizard."
After saying this, Gwen added hesitantly,
"By the way, about our date this evening..."
Su Ye raised an eyebrow, "What's wrong? Do you have something else? Canceling?"
"No, no, no," Gwen waved her hands quickly.
"It's just that my mom heard I had a date, and since it's with a Chinese student studying here, she suggested I bring you over for dinner."
"Tonight, we're having lemon sea bass. Do you like that?"
Lemon sea bass? Are we already at the "meeting the in-laws for dinner" stage? Isn't this a bit fast? Dr. Connors hasn't even finished his lizard gene research yet!
Just then, Su Ye's phone rang. It was Harry calling.
"Hey! Xiao Ye, there's an event tonight. I invited Mary Jane. Do you and Gwen want to come along?"
Harry moved fast, or maybe Mary Jane switched boats quickly. Thursday morning, she was still Thompson's girlfriend, and by Saturday, she was dating Harry.
Ah, women.
"You two have fun; I'm going to Gwen's for lemon sea bass, so I'll pass," Su Ye declined.
"Alright, then have a great dinner!"
"Thanks, and have fun!"
Putting away the phone, Su Ye smiled at Gwen.
"If I make a fool of myself over fish, I hope your family won't laugh at me."
"Don't worry; with me here, you won't become the joke."
