Chapter 62: Triggered Compass
Chapter 62: Triggered Compass
Once he exited the cave, Compass Carburettor hurried down the hill, quickly entering the forest as he arrived at the carriage, boarding it as the driver began to move it through the beaten path.
He stretched his arms, stealthily placing his gun on the roof of the carriage, away from view. As for him, he could sense its position no matter where it was, also able to retract it with a thought. So, he wasn’t afraid anyone would try to lay their hands on it.
It wasn’t possible to do that before he could sense it. After all, the gun was his core. So, if anyone laid eyes on it, he would feel the Mental Energy streams. Thoughts were instant, so he would be able to react promptly.
As the surroundings brightened, the gun began to absorb the sunlight, beginning to recharge itself. Compass Carburettor made note of the time, sighing, ‘It would really need a day’s worth of light to be fully charged.’
Though, once the energy in it reached a certain level, the gun began to suck in the air, beginning to condense the bullets. Two hours later, the carriage reached a city as Compass Carburettor retracted his gun, entering the city as they headed towards an inn.
The driver parked the horses at a public stable for them to rest while he rested in a lodge meant for drivers. It was provided by the Empire, free to use for all drivers. As it was free, all the drivers only stayed here, unwilling to spend any money.
Fealta and Caithy rested a little, relaxing their aching bodies while Compass Carburettor roamed through the city, holding a couple of tokens in his pocket as he moved through the place, looking for opportunities.
He had already rested enough. After all, three hours of sleep was enough for him to function for an entire day. At present, the density of the Mental Energy streams gushing into him had increased by a lot.
After all, the bandit stronghold had at least a hundred bandits. And, more than half had seen him in action. As for the rest, they had witnessed the aftermath. So, their emotions formed a gigantic wave of starlight that poured into him, causing him to feel relaxed as the Jar in his Mental Energy Form began to fill up at a faster rate.
Now that he realised the beneficial growth he could achieve through such a dense level of Mental Energy influx, he couldn’t sit still anymore, beginning to roam through the city as he tried to search for the perfect target.
Soon, once he entered the alleyways that almost resembled a slum, he could hear the sounds of thrashing. Compass Carburettor quickly turned around the corner, gazing at a group of three adults kicking a group of children.
Upon seeing their actions, Compass Carburettor shouted, “Stop it!”
“Huh?” The three adults turned around, gazing at the source of the shout, noticing his handsome visage, “What’s a pretty boy like you doing around here?”
“Wait,” One of the adults, a man in his early thirties, seemingly the youngest of the trio, sporting numerous scars on his neck said, snickering as he eyed Compass Carburettor from top to bottom, “Bro, check this dude out. Isn’t he quite the looker? If we sell him to a brothel, we won’t have to worry about money for at least a year or two.”
“Idiot,” The oldest of the three smacked the youngest, chiding him, “Are you deranged in the head? Would any sane person even think of committing such a crime in this day and age? Sheesh, I feel disgusted to call you my younger brother.”
“S-Sorry,” The youngest bowed in apology as he got chided.
The oldest of the three then smirked as he said, pointing at Compass Carburettor, “Just take a gander at that appearance. It would be a sin to sell him to a brothel. Rather, we should make a brothel ourselves. With such a man as our poster boy, every woman in the city would flock over with lust. We’ll rake in money so much we’ll have to roll our fat bodies in the future.”
“I was short-sighted,” The youngest of the three exclaimed in admiration.
All along, Compass Carburettor watched their banter, sensing the Mental Energy streams they emitted. Through that, he was trying to get a feel for their characters. And as they talked, they expressed a myriad of thoughts, generating a variety of Mental Energy streams.
By the end of their banter, Compass Carburettor had a handle over their characters, ‘Even their lowest crime is organ trafficking.’
It was apparent when he felt the Mental Energy streams trailing from the children as they clutched their injured bodies, covering the locations where their kidneys were located. It wasn’t knowledge uneducated children like them ought to know.
But through the experience of having witnessed the kidneys of other children be taken out one after another, they had instinctively realised the organ that they had to prevent from being stolen.
Even though he was neither a saint nor a hero, but rather a hypocrite, the scene still angered him. He took out his Armament, swiftly pointing at the three adults, activating two States one after another.
Long Sword!
Wide Sword!
The three adults had been cackling in one moment and in the next, their heads were separated from their bodies. They were just thugs involved with the underground network and weren’t Warriors. So, they were unable to react fast enough.
Rather, Compass Carburettor was a culmination of numerous athletes in one body. His reflexes weren’t something a regular human could ever hope to attain, not unless they zealously trained their bodies for decades.
But even then, they would only develop in one field that they had spent years upon. Despite everything, they weren’t his opponent.
Having severed the three adults, Compass Carburettor deactivated his Armament, placing it within his pocket as he approached the terrified children, kneeling before them, flashing a gentle smile, “I’m your ally.”
He then gently massaged one of the children on his bruise, asking, “Can you tell me what happened here in detail?”
“As for your problems, I’ll take care of them.”
