I hacked through the chaotic world with my blade

Chapter 240: Better Off Dead, At Least No More Pain (Part 3)

Wu Hao: ...?

What could he say?

My God.

Are the people here all out of their minds?

If time could turn back, he definitely wouldn't have come here. Forget about shelters or not, it has absolutely nothing to do with him.

A moment later.

A figure appeared at the door. When Wu Hao saw the figure appear, he felt something was off. The person was hanging their head low, slowly walking toward him one step at a time.

"This…" Wu Hao saw thick liquid dripping from the person's mouth and instantly understood the situation: a zombie. The person had turned into a zombie, which means things are chaotic outside now.

Sausage Brother was meticulously cleaning, casually glancing over, "Bro, can you hurry up? I've almost cleaned all my stuff, and you've only pulled out one fingernail. Don't waste time."

He still didn't know about the person's condition and continued to work earnestly.

His voice startled the zombie-turned Sausage Brother, who stood motionless, then suddenly raised his head, grayish-white eyeballs rolling around, thick liquid flowing from his mouth.

"Grrr"

A low growl was heard.

Sausage Brother lunged at Sausage Brother like a mad dog.

"Ah... Bro, what are you doing? Bite him, not me." The zombie pinned Sausage Brother to the ground while Sausage Brother braced the zombie's chin with his arm, screaming in fear.

Tied up, Wu Hao didn't dare to breathe. Just then, Sausage Brother's screams attracted the zombies outside, and another zombie appeared. Upon closer inspection, it was familiar, exactly the woman he had warned.

The person who was perfectly fine before had now turned into a zombie that only knew how to devour flesh and blood.

"Why don't they believe what I say?"

Wu Hao watched helplessly as Sausage Brother was devoured, his screams echoing, his stomach torn open, blood and guts spilling forth, the scene was brutal, and looking at it sent shivers down one's spine.

Luckily, his ability was Disguise; if not for such ability, he might have also been devoured to the bones.

Sausage Brother couldn't become a zombie; his neck was nearly broken, leaving no chance for transformation.

Because Sausage Brother didn't turn into a zombie,

the two zombies didn't leave but squatted in front of the corpse, continually shoving flesh into their mouths, and Wu Hao could only watch the situation unfold.

After a long while.

The two zombies, done eating, stood up, emitting low growls toward the surroundings, then slowly wandered outside.

"Sigh."

Wu Hao sighed, remaining composed. Zombies couldn't see him, but they could hear sounds. Now wasn't the time to find a way to escape; better to wait until the zombies left and then think of something.

People in the apocalypse seem to have dull minds.

Why don't they believe what he says?

People like Zhang Changrui, selfish and out for control, aren't few in number. Why did he act this way? Was it to enjoy the power of controlling others?

If he were the emperor of the apocalypse, others' lives and deaths would be in his hands.

Even knowing there was a better place,

he wouldn't tell others.

Maybe I'm a bit tired.

Wu Hao closed his eyes slightly.

Gradually, it was dawn outside.

Wu Hao emerged from the sausage processing area, shielding his eyes from the first morning light, looking at the sky. The azure sky symbolized beauty, but the reality remained so terrifying.

Looking ahead, the burning houses had been extinguished. The scorched smell pulled him from the notion of beauty back to reality; this was the apocalypse, still filled with danger.

Corpses were everywhere, some gnawed beyond recognition by zombies, unidentifiable as to who they once were.

There were also fallen zombie bodies.

"Hmm..."

He saw Zhang Changrui's head, quietly rolled aside, appearing utterly indifferent.

"The apocalypse isn't something you can mess around with effortlessly."

He didn't know what had happened, why things had turned out this way, for them to have been wiped out by zombies.

There were Awakeners here.

Ordinary zombies certainly couldn't do this, indicating the appearance of Evolutionary Zombies.

The horrific scene before his eyes still deeply impacted him.

Though he had witnessed many horrific scenes of apocalypse, witnessing a new tragedy happening right before him was still hard to accept.

He saw the woman's child lying there, motionless. He walked over for a closer look; it wasn't bitten to death by zombies, but seemed to have been trampled to death.

In a panic-stricken state,

stampedes can happen so easily.

Wu Hao held the child, dug a pit somewhere, and buried the child, "Sigh, leaving this dreadful apocalypse might be for the best, sparing future suffering. If your mom had listened to me, things could have been different."

But now nothing one says can change anything.

After properly burying the child,

Wu Hao visited Zhang Changrui's living quarters, feeling this guy was truly despicable. There were instant noodles, milk, various supplies and food. Clearly, he ate those, while the sausages were for the other survivors.

Casually rummaging around.

He found some crystals in Zhang Changrui's room, not many, about seven or eight, mostly white, with just one black.

He stored the crystals safely and found a pistol in the drawer.

Then he bandaged his injured finger, shiveringly thinking, had they not heard the commotion outside, his nails might have been pulled thoroughly clean by them.

After tending to everything, he cooked himself instant noodles and drank a few bottles of milk.

Burping contentedly.

"Really satisfying."

Wu Hao leaned against the chair back, staring at the ceiling. After a brief contemplation, he stood up to leave, found his motorcycle, gave the shelter one last glance, and departed without much thought.

He'd done what needed doing, almost costing himself as well.
