Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Mystery Behind the Mastery
The road back to Erandel stretched quietly under the fading moonlight.
Renji walked alone, the cool night air brushing against his face. His clothes were torn, blood still dried on his sleeve, and his dagger hung loosely at his side.
But his expression was focused—eyes narrowed, brows furrowed in thought.
He opened his Status Window again as he walked.
📜 Renji Akatsuki – Status
Level: 3 Class: None Rank: F
Skills:
[Fire Ball] (Basic)
[Shadow Step] (F-Rank)
[Keen Sense] (F-Rank)
[Shadow Resistance] (F-Rank)
[Chanting Mastery] (Unique Skill – Active)
Renji stared at the glowing words.
Earlier, when he learned Shadow Step, it had clicked into place in his mind so perfectly—like he'd known it for years. The same happened with Fire Ball, even if it was weak.
"So this is what Chanting Mastery does,"
he muttered, walking beneath the trees.
"It lets me instantly understand the structure and use of magic spells… like decoding the entire chant in an instant."
But then… a thought struck him.
His steps slowed.
He narrowed his eyes.
"…Wait but where did the skills come from?"
Shadow Step, Keen Sense, Shadow Resistance… they weren't spells.
They were combat and monster-derived abilities.
He hadn't chanted them.
He hadn't learned them.
They had just… appeared.
[Skill Acquired]
Renji clenched his fist.
"So my unique skill didn't give me those abilities."
"They came from… the monsters?"
He remembered the burning wolf, the moment it died.
"Do I get a skill when I kill something?"
"Even it is..I only got 1 unique skill"
The thought chilled him—and thrilled him at the same time.
But if that was true, then…
"Chanting Mastery doesn't give me skills. It just lets me understand them the moment I get them."
"So how is this happen?"
That distinction mattered.
It meant he was still weak.
But it also meant he had a path. A way to grow.
The more spells and techniques he acquired… The faster he could master them. Faster than anyone else.
"Nevermind..I gotta go back to town"
Up ahead, lights flickered in the early dawn haze. The familiar stone walls of Erandel Town came into view, and with it—the building that marked the beginning of every adventurer's journey.
The Adventurer's Guild.
Its doors were still open, with a few adventurers lounging outside.
Renji stood before the guild entrance, the wooden tag around his neck marked with an F.
His clothes were still torn, his mana was nearly dry—but his eyes held a sharpness they didn't have the day before.
He stepped forward and pushed open the door.
