Chapter 439 Li Fu Arrives
Li Fu smiled on the other end of the phone, saying, "Ye Chen, I've arrived in Jiangzhou City. Come pick me up at the airport."
Ye Chen was surprised; he hadn't expected Li Fu to come to Jiangzhou City.
After picking up Li Fu from the airport, Ye Chen took him to a restaurant.
While waiting for the dishes, Ye Chen asked Li Fu, "Mr. Li, what brings you to Jiangzhou City all of a sudden?"
Li Fu chuckled and said, "Isn't it because I'm worried about you? You've been targeted by so many people recently, I'm afraid something might happen to you."
Hearing this, Ye Chen felt touched.
Though their relationship was based on collaboration, they were also friends!
In times of danger, it was heartening to see him making such an effort.
Such friends are worth making.
Moreover, Ye Chen believed that Li Fu had another purpose for coming to Jiangzhou City.
"You must have other business in Jiangzhou City; if it's inconvenient, you can tell me openly…" Ye Chen said.
He didn't like being in someone's debt.
Especially a friend's.
Li Fu shook his head, saying, "Ye Chen, I genuinely have no particular purpose. I just wanted to see how you are doing, kid. You're too impressive, it makes me jealous! So I wanted to come and see for myself."
Ye Chen smiled and did not press further.
After the meal, Ye Chen drove Li Fu back to his hotel to rest.
On the way back to the hotel, Ye Chen noticed that Li Fu seemed distracted and his eyes were filled with sadness.
Seeing this, Ye Chen grew curious and asked, "Mr. Li, what's wrong?"
"It's, it's nothing!" Li Fu quickly waved his hand.
Ye Chen frowned slightly, feeling that Li Fu did not seem alright, but since Li Fu was unwilling to tell him, he wouldn't force the question.
After settling Li Fu in, Ye Chen left the hotel.
He had only walked a few steps when he noticed a car following him. His expression darkened immediately, and he quickened his pace toward the alley ahead.
The black sedan also sped up, heading straight for Ye Chen.
Boom!
Ye Chen swung out a punch.
The black sedan hit the wall and came to a stop.
Immediately after, about a dozen men in black got out of the car and surrounded Ye Chen.
"Who are you?" Ye Chen asked coldly.
"You don't need to know who I am, you just need to understand that tonight is your end," the lead man sneered as he drew a gun.
As he spoke, the men in black beside him also drew their guns, aiming at Ye Chen.
This group, clad in black, were clearly trained assassins.
However, Ye Chen was not the least bit afraid and coldly said, "I would really like to know who the mastermind behind you is?"
"Our employer does not allow his name to be disclosed. Don't worry, he will leave you a complete corpse," the man in black said coldly, pulling the trigger.
Bang, bang, bang…
Gunshots rang out, and bullets were fired towards Ye Chen.
Ye Chen's figure flickered, dodging the bullets.
At the same time, the man in black also aimed his gun and fired at Ye Chen.
A fierce exchange of fire ensued, with bullets flying around.
After a brief confrontation, Ye Chen gained an absolute advantage. He snatched a gun from one of the men and pointed it at the head of the leading man in black, pulling the trigger.
Puchi!
A bullet shot out, exploding the head of the man in black.
Blood splattered, drenching the others.
The remaining few were petrified on the spot.
"You have three seconds to decide, leave or die!" Ye Chen's cold voice echoed down the entire street.
Terrified, the men glanced at each other and then turned and fled in disarray.
Once they had gone far, Ye Chen threw away the gun, took out a tissue and wiped the blood spattered on him, looking indifferently in the direction the men had fled, muttering, "Dare to mess with me, I hope you can withstand the consequences!"
Then, Ye Chen went to the hospital to pick up Lin Yaru after her shift.
In the following days, things calmed down a bit, perhaps because Li Fu was in Jiangzhou City, keeping people there in check.
During this time, Ye Chen continued to serve as Lin Yaru's bodyguard and driver, ensuring her safety as he drove her to the hospital daily for work.
Fortunately, Zhao Tianyang and his ilk had not harassed Lin Yaru recently, so there were no troubles.
That day, Li Fu came to find Ye Chen, inviting him to go fishing.
"Li Lao, how did you suddenly think to go fishing with me?" Ye Chen was somewhat unenthusiastic about the boring activity of fishing.
Li Fu laughed and said, "Xiao Chen, these past few days I've seen you always accompanying Lin Yaru at the hospital. Aren't you two in love?"
Ye Chen was momentarily speechless, knowing he had given Li Fu the wrong impression.
"Forget it, I won't force you to make any decisions," Li Fu waved his hand. "Come on, let's first see my collection."
"Okay." Ye Chen followed Li Fu into the car and they left.
On the way, Li Fu shared, "I've collected a batch of antiques, all from the Qing Dynasty. There are quite a few treasures among them!"
"Oh?" Ye Chen, now interested, asked, "What kind of treasures?"
"You'll see when you get there." Li Fu parked the car in front of a large store.
The two got out of the car and Ye Chen noticed that the store sold a lot of antiques and had a comprehensive collection.
However, these antiques were quite ordinary, and Ye Chen did not find them appealing.
Instead, Li Fu pulled out a rusty bronze sword from behind the counter.
"This is a treasure sword from the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, called the Dragon Slayer Sword." Li Fu took out the sword, pointing at its rusty blade.
Hearing this, Ye Chen's eyes flashed with an unusual light.
The Dragon Slayer Sword, although the name was plain, it had genuinely taken many lives.
"How about this treasure?" asked Li Fu.
Ye Chen shook his head, "This sword is indeed nice, but it's too sharp and not suitable for collecting."
Li Fu chuckled, then opened another box and took out a piece of jade.
Ye Chen looked it over, frowning slightly.
The jade was red, crystal clear and beautiful, but it was riddled with cracks, resembling shattered glass.
Li Fu smiled, "This is Chicken Blood Stone from the Yuan Dynasty's official kiln, valued at around five million."
"Chicken Blood Stone?" Ye Chen was stunned for a moment.
"Yes," Li Fu responded, then explained, "Chicken Blood Stone is made from a mineral called Blood Agate and is highly significant for collections, even suitable for wearing as jewelry."
"However, Chicken Blood Stone changes shape very quickly, often forming several cracks in an instant, which is why it is named so."
"I see." Ye Chen nodded in realization, no wonder the jade had so many cracks.
Li Fu continued, "Although this Chicken Blood Stone has cracks, it can still be treasured as an antique, pushing its price to around ten million. If someone knowledgeable comes along, the price could even quadruple."
Ye Chen clicked his tongue secretly, knowing that Chicken Blood Stone was extremely expensive, but he hadn't expected it to be this pricey.
