Chapter 443: High-Speed Particle Collider
Two weeks gradually passed, and according to reports from the wizards stationed in the North Border, the space-time node remained in a closed state with no abnormalities emerging.
This undoubtedly meant good news; Rafael, as he had anticipated, successfully stalled the advance of the undead, securing ample time for them.
The council spent three and a half months using magic to build a three-kilometer-long protective fortress, blocking off the entrance to the valley and mobilizing over three hundred thousand troops to be stationed in the North Border. They transported various modern weapons there, preparing for any potential invasion.
War preparations for the other realms had also reached the final stage.
Nearly seventy percent of the council's wizards had arrived at the encampment outside the valley; a huge protective barrier enveloped the entire valley. Fifteen Sun Flame Cannons were aimed in the direction of the Space-Time Gate—this was one of the council's biggest trump cards.
At its limit, each Sun Flame Cannon could unleash three "Atomic Breaths," powerful enough to chill any legend to the bone.
Even if several of the council heads joined forces and entered this valley, they might not be able to make it out.
But their opponent this time was the lord of the undead who had seized and devoured several worlds, an old god, a high-dimensional being beyond comprehension—nobody dared to say whether such arrangements could stop the other side.
"What a pity that we still haven't had enough time to bring over all the Magic Crystal Cannons and armored vehicles," Sanchez, who was in charge of coordinating personnel, said with regret.
Although the council had the railways extended here early on, the trains' capacity was ultimately limited. Three months was far from enough. In the end, Sanchez even suggested waiting a while longer.
Due to the time flow discrepancy between the two places, as long as Rafael and the others held out for two more days, they could gain another half month of preparation time.
Lynn also felt the time was pressing, but after pondering for a while, shook his head. "Wizard Rafael and the other wizards who have entered the other realms have completed what they were supposed to do; the rest is up to us to solve."
"Moreover, other places need protection as well. If we concentrate all our forces here and the enemy suddenly launches an attack through another space-time gate, the consequences would be severe," said Lynn, speaking gravely.
Sanchez thought about that scenario and immediately held his tongue; he then began to grumble about the huge laboratory Lynn had him build in the North Border, where over a third of the council's labor force wasted their energy.
Harrov even had him dispatch people to hollow out the entire valley to create a massive trap, which was only half completed so far.
"By the way, how's my particle collider laboratory coming along? Is it finished?" Lynn asked expectantly.
"It was already completed ten days ago, haven't you already sent those alchemists over to confirm it?" Sanchez answered, confused.
The laboratory requested by Lynn, occupying several square kilometers, was no less work than the protective wall and was also very mysterious. Even Sanchez had not been told what it was for.
"That's because building the facility is only the first step. As for what it's used for, you'll find out soon enough!" Lynn said mysteriously.
Sanchez had to suppress his curiosity because they were about to open the space-time gate and let Lydia and others enter to rendezvous with Rafael's exploration squad in the other realm; they couldn't leave now.
The wait didn't last long, as a silver-white jet fighter soon appeared in the distant sky.
Probably to accommodate the two airships assisting from the rear, Lydia had not initiated supersonic mode. However, even so, the jet's extremely fast speed and sleek appearance left Sanchez, who was witnessing a jet fighter for the first time, utterly astonished.
Amidst the roaring sound, the fighter jet completed a very smooth deceleration and landing, stopping on the specially constructed runway alongside two much larger airships.
Dennis and others immediately came forward to conduct final checks, replacing the magic stones that powered the internal Alchemy Array with new ones to ensure energy supply outside the realm.
"It seems your flying skills have become more and more proficient, Lydia!" Lynn approached, looking at the half-elf girl who had opened her windscreen, and said with a smile.
During her first test flight, Lydia had performed well, but whether during take-off, landing, or cruising, one could still perceive a sense of unfamiliarity.
"Of course!" Lydia replied proudly. For the past two weeks, she had almost been undertaking ten hours of intense flight training every day.
It was an astounding feat because flying at three times the speed of sound placed a great strain on the body. If not for Lydia having become a wizard and the half-elves' robust constitution, she probably wouldn't have been able to endure it.
Even so, after each training session, she had to drink a magic potion to heal her body's damage.
Lynn turned his head, instructing several great wizards responsible for monitoring the space-time gate to open the sealed space-time node. Then, looking at Lydia once more, he spoke in a solemn voice, reminding her.
"Be very careful once you enter, Lydia! Venturing into the other realm will directly interrupt the magic net connection, and from that point on, you'll be on your own!"
