Chapter 5-This is the taste of satisfaction!
Yunhai Media, Vocal Department.
In terms of both floor space and the luxury of decoration, it far surpassed the Composition Department. The treatment given to these two departments was like heaven and earth.
In this company, any singer above the third-tier essentially had their own independent office, a lounge, and a dedicated team comprising managers, assistants, and other staff members serving them. Even new singers were provided their own training rooms.
In the corridor, a man in his thirties was sweeping the floor with a broom.
Someone greeted him, “Hey, Mingxing, sweeping again? Let the cleaning lady handle this.”
Hao Mingxing smiled and, in his husky voice, said, “I’ve got nothing else to do, so consider it a way to pass time.”
“Alright, you keep sweeping then. I’m heading off to record.”
“Sure, take your time.”
Upon seeing the person entering the recording studio, Hao Mingxing’s eyes became somewhat absent-minded for a moment. However, he quickly lowered his head and began to sweep diligently.
In front of others, Hao Mingxing had always maintained a smiling face.
Being unable to sing and with no one willing to write songs for him, he took on odd jobs at the company – serving tea, handling documents, sweeping floors, taking out the trash, ordering takeout, and so on.
In the beginning, when he first realized his voice was ruined, he felt as if his world was collapsing. However, as time passed, time wore away all his complaints, leaving him indifferent.
After sweeping for a while, just as he was about to leave, the beautiful receptionist Xiaoqing approached him and said, “Hao Mingxing, Liu Zhengwen from the Composition Department just called. He mentioned someone has written a song and is specifically asking for you. Please go to the Composition Department to have a look.”
Hao Mingxing thought he had misheard. Pointing to himself, he asked in surprise, “Me?”
Xiaoqing nodded, “Yes.”
Hao Mingxing was stunned for a moment, “Who wrote a song for me?”
He knew that ever since his voice was ruined, the company wasn’t willing to waste any resources on him. So, hearing that someone had written a song for him left him baffled.
Xiaoqing shook her head, “I don’t know, Liu Zhengwen didn’t say.”
Due to Yuan Xiong’s specific instructions, the incident of Wang Mo entering the Composition Department had been kept quiet within the company. Except for the employees of the Composition Department, others were unaware of this matter. After all, it wasn’t any kind of honorable event and involved Wang Mo’s face.
Hearing Xiaoqing’s words, Hao Mingxing was once again dumbfounded. Then he nodded, “Alright, I understand.”
Afterwards, he stood still for a moment, placed the broom in the corner, adjusted his clothes, and headed towards the Composition Department.
…
Over ten minutes later, in the Composition Department’s meeting room, Hao Mingxing looked at Wang Mo across from him, completely bewildered.
Or rather, at this moment, Hao Mingxing’s mind was in a mess.
Wang Mo?
He wrote a song for me?
This was even more absurd than his voice being ruined.
Purely shocked.
Purely delighted.
Just moments ago, he really thought someone from the Composition Department had written a song for him but he never expected it to be Wang Mo.
Liu Zhengwen cleared his throat, his voice slightly awkward, “Hao Mingxing, Wang Mo is now a composer. He wrote a song and wants you to sing it. What do you think? Um… the music score is here, you can take a look before making a decision.”
Hao Mingxing took the music score but didn’t read it. Instead, he said, “I have no problem with it.”
He felt that he understood Wang Mo’s intention.
Just as Liu Zhengwen had thought: two disabled individuals seeking warmth together.
“Great!”
As Liu Zhengwen heard Hao Mingxing’s agreement and applauded, “Wang Mo, since Hao Mingxing has agreed to sing your song, I won’t interfere in the next steps. You two can discuss it privately.”
He was busy and didn’t have time to waste on them.
After Liu Zhengwen left.
Wang Mo finally carefully assessed Hao Mingxing.
Around thirty years old, his face was marked by vicissitudes of life, with wrinkles on his forehead that couldn’t stretch out further. The calm gaze in his eyes seemed to hide countless stories within. His arm muscles were strong and well-defined, and his bronze skin contrasted sharply with Wang Mo’s fair complexion.
Hao Mingxing approached, smiling, “Wang Mo, I’ve heard a lot about you.”
“Cough, I’m flattered.”
Wang Mo shrugged, pointing at the music score, “Mingxing, should we try the melody first?”
“Sure.”
Hao Mingxing agreed, maintaining a humble smile throughout the process.
Once Liu Zhengwen had left, they arrived at the designated audition room.
“Do you need to warm up your voice?”
Wang Mo asked.
He knew that singers usually did vocal warm-ups before singing to prevent damaging their voices.
“No need,” Hao Mingxing shook his head and added, “Actually, I warm up my voice every morning, but whether or not I do it, there is no difference.”
“You still train your vocals every day?”
Wang Mo was surprised.
Hao Mingxing smiled wryly, “I’m used to it. Do you think I’m wishful?”
“Wishful?”
Wang Mo shook his head, “If the heart is there, the dream is there.”
With a moment of uncertainty, Hao Mingxing blinked.
Wang Mo raised a USB drive, “I have arranged the music here. Do you want me to play it?”
Only then did Hao Mingxing come to his senses, shaking his head, “Let me familiarize myself with the lyrics and melody first. I’ll sing it acapella a few times to get a feel for it. Then, I’ll try to coordinate with the accompaniment.”
“Sure.”
Wang Mo nodded.
Next, he sat aside, watching Hao Mingxing.
He felt a bit nervous and excited. Although he was confident that Hao Mingxing’s voice would most likely suit the song “It Doesn’t Matter”, that was still uncertain until he heard him sing.
As, hearing him speak and sing were entirely different concepts.
As time passed,
Hao Mingxing’s foundational skills were solid.
After about half an hour, Hao Mingxing raised his head, “I’m ready.”
“Good.”
Wang Mo gestured for Hao Mingxing to start the trial.
Gulu~ (throat clearing)
Hao Mingxing coughed, took a small sip of water, cleared his throat, and then began to sing acapella, “It doesn’t matter, who falls in love with whom…”
Bang!
The next moment, Wang Mo’s hand slapped the table, causing him to wince in pain.
Startled, Hao Mingxing asked, “Wang Mo, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing… nothing. Just continue singing.”
Wang Mo, completely ignoring his reddening hand, had his heart beating violently, and his eyes looked at Hao Mingxing with intense fervor.
This is the taste of satisfaction!
Although Hao Mingxing had only sung one line, Wang Mo’s emotions were already stirred. This is the taste of satisfaction!
He even sensed a bit of the original singer’s flavor from Hao Mingxing’s acapella.
After singing a few times, Hao Mingxing gradually found his groove, and his performance improved.
The smile on Wang Mo’s face became brighter and brighter.
“That’s enough.”
After about an hour, Wang Mo finally stopped Hao Mingxing, who had been repeating the song over and over.
Hao Mingxing hurriedly approached Wang Mo, rubbing his hands, his face filled with uneasiness, “Um… Wang… Mo, did my singing scare you?”
He knew his singing was terrible, to the point where he felt like slapping himself.
Although today, while singing “It Doesn’t Matter”, Hao Mingxing noticed a significant difference from his previous singing. It seemed smoother, without the awkward and dry feeling he used to have. However, he thought it was just his own illusion.
“No.”
Wang Mo looked at Hao Mingxing’s cautiously hopeful expression, knowing that anything he said now, Hao Mingxing wouldn’t believe it. So, he simply said, “Brother Mingxiing, familiarize yourself with it when you go back today. We’ll officially record the song tomorrow.”
“Record?”
Hao Mingxing shook his head, “Will the company even allow it?”
Wang Mo frowned, “Why wouldn’t they?”
Hao Mingxing awkwardly explained, “It’s a waste of resources on someone like me.”
After all, recording a song incurred significant costs.
Wang Mo smiled, “Don’t worry, if I say we can record, we will definitely be able to record!”
Hao Mingxing took a deep breath, “Wang…Brother Mo, if you don’t see me as a waste, then I’m all in. I’ll give it my all in tomorrow’s recording.”
How did it suddenly become “Brother Mo”?
You’re more than ten years older than me.
Helplessly, Wang Mo said, “Brother Mingxing, just call me by my name. Calling me ‘Brother Mo’ makes me sound old.”
“Okay, Brother Mo.”
“Call me Wang Mo.”
“Got it, Brother Mo.”
…
The two emerged from the audition room and found the corridor outside buzzing with excitement.
Upon seeing Wang Mo and Hao Mingxing, all the noise suddenly stopped. Almost everyone in the corridor belonged to the Composition Department and Vocal Department. Everyone’s gaze focused on the two, and their expressions were quite lively.
Because Wang Mo asking Hao Mingxing to audition had already caused a sensation in both departments.
A blurred pretty boy.
A singer with a ruined voice.
A duet audition of the doubly disabled—what a spectacle!
“Heh!”
Wang Mo ignored the commotion and calmly walked through the crowd.
Behind him, Hao Mingxing picked up the broom again. The floor he had just cleaned was messed up by these guys again.
Some called out, “Old Hao, sweep over here.”
“There’s garbage here.”
Bending over, Hao Mingxing agreed, “Sure, coming.”
