I can upgrade the shelter

Chapter 285: Traversing the Blizzard

After a day of practice, Qin Lan had basically mastered the use of Power Armor.

Of course, this mastery merely allowed her to walk while wearing the Power Armor, far from fully familiarizing with its performance and unleashing its full potential.

Applying a game concept, she had learned the skill and could use it, but her proficiency was practically zero, lacking any power.

Overall, Qin Lan had stopped face-planting while walking in Power Armor, wouldn't hit her helmet from overly swinging her arm, and got familiar with using the armor's arms to pick up objects.

Under such circumstances, she could accompany Chen Xin to the city while wearing Power Armor.

Just as they prepared to depart, Qin Lan asked Chen Xin with concern: "Aren't we preparing weapons? Although the main issue in the city is the snowstorm, wouldn't it be dangerous if we encounter hostile elements without weapons?"

"Hostile elements? What kind of hostile elements could oppose a Power Armor?" Chen Xin laughed at Qin Lan, merely questioning her back.

Though he knew Qin Lan had a point and indeed he could arm the Power Armor, it was unnecessary.

First of all, this was Power Armor, wrapped in at least 3mm steel plates, with internal composite cushioning defense structures. All key parts were thickened and reinforced, and there's an outer armor layer over 5mm thick. The surface underwent a carbon coating, making it extraordinarily hard while the arc-shaped structure easily deflects bullets.

With its defense capacity, even being shot at close range by a pistol or an automatic rifle would cause no harm, at most scratching off a layer of paint.

To destroy such a Power Armor, unless a rocket is directly fired at it or a grenade thrown at its feet, it would take little to no damage.

The Power Armor itself has powerful output, able to easily lift 2.5 tons, and allows a running speed of 40KM/h. Chen Xin really didn't know of any hostile elements in Flame Country capable of challenging such Power Armor, or any necessity for him to use weapons.

Moreover, its internal Life Support System provides oxygen for 40 hours in a vacuum, the air filter ensures survival in hazardous environments for over a week, and it includes a water filter and a three-day supply of emergency compressed biscuits. Even if trapped, they could send a rescue signal, holding out until rescue arrives.

Furthermore, they weren't venturing into a warzone, merely crossing a snowstorm into the city.

Qin Lan realized she had overthought, pondering what her former SWAT team could do against such Power Armor, and concluding that without heavy weaponry, even unarmed Power Armor would be nearly impossible for a SWAT squad to effectively harm, unless a sniper rifle's Armor-Piercing Bullet pierced the visor for a headshot.

Especially since Chen Xin demonstrated the armor's defense by letting her shoot at it with his police pistol at close range, which left no mark, only scraping off a bit of paint.

Their Power Armor had no weapons, but each had a cylindrical bag about 20 liters in size on their back, filled with emergency supplies, planning to deliver them to Ding Ning once they entered the city. Besides this, Qin Lan insisted Chen Xin carry a pistol inside the Power Armor.

Checking on Ding Ning was one of the main objectives for Chen Xin and Qin Lan entering the city. More importantly, Chen Xin wanted to connect with the branch of the research institution stationed in the city, to learn more and see what he could do.

After packing, they opened the shelter's door, using the Power Armor's strength to force a path through the snow piled to the door's top, leaving the shelter.

Watching the shelter door close behind, Chen Xin and Qin Lan turned on the lights on their Power Armor shoulders, moving one after another through waist-deep snow towards the city.

"The snow is so dense, you can't see the direction at all! Ah Xin, how do we navigate?" Qin Lan asked, staring at the continually blinding snowflakes hitting her visor.

The lights on the Power Armor shoulders were like two flashlights, illuminating only a few meters ahead in this blizzard. Even with sunlight, visibility couldn't confirm directions well, not to mention during this pitch-black night.

Yet Chen Xin had considered this issue and said to Qin Lan, "Try saying 'open navigation' aloud. I've uploaded the map and route to your Power Armor system. The navigation system includes a compass, mini-map, and positioning, so even if lost in the snowstorm, you can locate my position."

Hearing this, Qin Lan activated the navigation system, seeing a mini-map similar to those in games appear in her upper right field of vision, with a yellow line for the route and a red dot indicating Chen Xin, finally feeling assured to follow him through the snowstorm.

Advancing in the storm, the only thing Qin Lan and Chen Xin could see besides snowflakes lit by their lights was endless darkness, hearing only dim wind and snow noise obstructed by their helmets and each other's voices.

If not for knowing the shelter was behind, companion beside, and destination city ahead, in such dark, solitary conditions, it would be easy to lose track of time and orientation, eventually freezing to death in the ice and snow.

This wasn't uncommon, even with modern technology, encountering a snowstorm outdoors was hazardous, with fatalities due to freezing every year.

Fortunately, Qin Lan and Chen Xin didn't have far to go, aided by Power Armor, reaching a bridge connecting the city in just over an hour.

The bridge in the storm was completely unrecognizable, only faint traces suggesting its original position.

Through the Power Armor's light, snow nearly buried the bridge, engulfing it in ice and snow.

"Looks like the Power Armor's performance is decent. Crossing the river, we can enter the city." Chen Xin praised his Power Armor creation, leading Qin Lan across the river underneath the bridge into the city.
