I Became Robin?! (Honkai Star Rail)

Chapter 52: Chapter 52: The Warehouse of the Investigation Bureau

That afternoon, Robin arrived at the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations in Longcheng and said hesitantly, "Um... are you sure you want me to handle this Dimensional Rift?"

Bai Yuanju was still the only person in the bureau. Heavy dark circles shadowed her eyes, making her look far more haggard than the stern, authoritative headmistress she had once been. Though she hadn't been on the front lines recently, managing all the logistics behind the scenes was a demanding task in itself.

Hearing Robin's words, Bai Yuanju sighed. "The cleanup plan is already finalized. Every Evolver has their assigned mission. If we reassign personnel now, it would create a gap in the plan and force us to redo everything. That would be incredibly troublesome."

In truth, if the newly emerged Dimensional Rift had posed a serious threat, suspending the zombie eradication efforts would have been understandable. However, the rift's danger level was exceptionally low—practically nonexistent—making it unnecessary to reassign personnel for such a trivial matter. Thus, Zhong Wanhong had thought of Robin and asked her to take on the task.

"According to drone reconnaissance, we've confirmed the presence of five White Specters," Bai Yuanju said. "They're currently roaming a high school. Fortunately, all schools are closed due to the recent outbreak of the Zombie Virus, so there have been no casualties so far."

"Your mission is to go to that school and eliminate those five monsters."

As she spoke, Bai Yuanju led Robin to the entrance of the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations' armory, a room at the end of the corridor on the left. Bai Yuanju tapped a series of numbers into the keypad lock, which Robin didn't bother to memorize. After the code was entered, a fingerprint scan was required before the heavily reinforced metal door slowly swung open.

Inside, a dazzling array of firearms came into view: pistols, submachine guns, shotguns, machine guns, and neatly stacked crates of ammunition lined the floor—a veritable small armory.

Yes, small. Robin noted the armory's limited space, roughly forty to fifty square meters, about the size of an average living room. Considering the Bureau's relatively small staff, however, such a stockpile of weapons seemed more than adequate.

Robin's heart raced as she gazed at the array of firearms. No boy could resist such things! Even though she was now undeniably a girl, that couldn't quell her excitement.

But she quickly realized something: liking guns was one thing, but she had never actually handled one before. If someone handed her a weapon now, she wouldn't know how to use it.

Just as she was about to admit her lack of experience, Bai Yuanju strode to the back of the warehouse. She took down several rifles from the wall, placed them on a nearby ammunition crate, and pressed her right hand against a specific spot on the smooth wall.

With a soft beep, the wall split open from the center, revealing a silver elevator.

"Huh?" Robin exclaimed.

"These are just standard weapons," Bai Yuanju explained. "The specialized anti-Specter gear you need is downstairs." She beckoned Robin over. "Come on, let me show you."

The Bureau of Anomalous Investigations needed a wide range of specialized weaponry to handle the diverse disasters caused by Dimensional Rifts. Storing these advanced weapons alongside ordinary firearms would be impractical, so they had built this "hidden armory."

In a sense, this measure also served as a precaution against potential attacks on the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations.

After descending what felt like two or three floors, the elevator slowly came to a stop. Robin found herself in a vast subterranean space, far larger than the previous warehouse.

A pristine white corridor stretched before her, lined with metal doors at regular intervals. Each door was accompanied by a placard detailing its contents.

Rather than a typical warehouse, the place struck Robin as a clandestine, high-tech research facility.

Bai Yuanju led the way, with Robin close behind, her curiosity piqued by the placards.

[Multi-Function 5.56mm Bullets: Includes explosive, ice-burst, thunderous, and armor-piercing rounds. Please take what you need.]

[Enhanced Healing Injections: Potent side effects. Use with extreme caution.]

[Prototype Individual Thermal Ray Weapon X-II: Experimental weapon with unknown risks. Handle with extreme care—it may explode.]

If the weapons in the ground-level warehouses were mostly ordinary firearms, the futuristic weaponry now before her was straight out of science fiction.

To be precise, this world was set in 2045, which, to Robin, was the future itself. Moreover, the dimensional rifts had spurred a rapid advancement in weapons technology, so the presence of such advanced equipment wasn't entirely surprising.

But as she walked deeper into the warehouse, Robin's eyes fell upon a collection of bizarre items beyond the high-tech weaponry:

[Wolf-Calling Whistle: Crafted by the utterly adorable "Shi Han," this whistle summons an unpredictable number of magical wolves to the user's side. These wolves obey the user's commands and are quite cuddly!]

[Antler: Recovered from a moose-like monster that emerged during the "South Tai Road Dimensional Rift Incident" on November 29, 2043. I have no idea what this thing does, so I'll just leave it here for now.]

[Surprise Wooden Box: This box materialized out of thin air during the "Sky Bridge Dimensional Rift Incident" on January 3, 2044. Its function remains unknown.]

If she had to sum up her mood in a single word, it would be, "Huh?"

Robin looked puzzled. "What are all these...?"

"Some weird odds and ends," Bai Yuanju said bluntly. "They could be items made by members of the Bureau of Anomalous Investigations, or things related to Dimensional Rifts. This is a warehouse, after all—anything can be stored here. And whoever stores something gets to write the description."

No wonder the descriptions for the high-tech weapons up front sounded so formal, while the descriptions for these later items were so bizarre.

Finally, after walking for a while, Bai Yuanju stopped in front of a door. A sign beside it read:

[Conversion Dust: Made by the absolutely adorable 'Shi Han'! Invisible objects touched by this stuff will be forcibly materialized for about ten seconds. Hurry and grab it!~]
