Chapter 178: This Script Will Definitely Be a Hit
On his second day back in Qin Province, Lin Yuan officially returned to work.
By this time, the company's departmental restructuring and transformation were already well underway. As soon as Lin Yuan arrived at the office, he received a new work badge. From now on, he wasn’t just one of the stars of Star Mang's composition department; he was also the representative of the tenth floor’s composition division!
Today marked the first time Representative Lin would meet his new composition team.
The elevator stopped on the tenth floor. Lin Yuan stepped into the composition department, greeted by numerous unfamiliar faces. It was clear that after the reshuffling, many composers from other floors had been assigned to the tenth floor, where Lin Yuan was now stationed.
Among the crowd, he spotted a few familiar colleagues who had also been placed under his leadership. Notably, Lin Yuan even saw his apprentice from Qi Province, Xue Liang. Of course, it made sense for Xue Liang to be assigned to Lin Yuan’s team since HR knew well enough to put them together, given their relationship.
"Lin Yuan." Old Zhou appeared.
Lin Yuan turned around and greeted him. Old Zhou smiled, "You might not be fully familiar with things yet, so I’ve arranged for a deputy supervisor to help you out..."
Old Zhou knew Lin Yuan’s personality well—he was just like the other top-tier composers in the company. Expecting Lin Yuan or those "big-name" composers to manage the department was unrealistic; it was hard enough just to get them to show up at the office on time. So, each department had been assigned a deputy supervisor.
"Hello, Representative Lin. I’m the deputy supervisor of the tenth floor!"
A somewhat familiar voice came from behind Lin Yuan. When he turned around, he was surprised to see none other than an old acquaintance—Wu Yong!
Wu Yong greeted him warmly, not just because Lin Yuan was now his boss, but because Wu Yong felt like he had hit the jackpot! In terms of composition skills, he wasn’t even close to the top tier. Why had Old Zhou made him Lin Yuan's deputy?
The answer was simple: Wu Yong was Lin Yuan’s most familiar colleague. Wu Yong understood that, in reality, this position had been given to him by Lin Yuan, even though it was Old Zhou who had made the official appointment. It felt like winning a lottery. Lin Yuan was that winning ticket for Wu Yong.
No matter how you looked at it, Wu Yong was determined to do his utmost to help Lin Yuan manage the tenth-floor composition department. That was exactly what Old Zhou had in mind as well. He knew Wu Yong was smart enough to recognize who his benefactor was. Most other department supervisors had risen through the ranks in a structured manner, but Wu Yong had rocketed to the top. He knew that his fate as deputy depended entirely on Lin Yuan’s opinion of him.
"Brother Yong." Lin Yuan nodded at Wu Yong, using the same casual address he had always used before.
While Wu Yong usually didn’t mind this, today, it felt a little different. Still, he hesitated for a moment and decided not to correct Lin Yuan. After all, he knew Lin Yuan wasn’t someone who cared about such trivialities.
...
Not wanting to linger too long in the composition department, Lin Yuan took the opportunity to bring up his movie idea with Old Zhou.
"What did you just say?" Five minutes later, in the office on the tenth floor, Old Zhou's expression shifted multiple times. "You want to make a movie?"
"Yes," Lin Yuan replied, pulling out the script he had worked on overnight. "The story is already written."
Old Zhou chuckled in disbelief. What was this? Lin Yuan, after becoming the representative of the tenth-floor composition team, was planning his first major decision, and it wasn’t even music-related—it was about making a movie!
Even though Old Zhou was used to Lin Yuan’s unpredictable behavior, he still couldn’t help but feel a little absurd.
"Uh, Lin Yuan..." Old Zhou spoke with a tone like he was coaxing a child. "Making a movie is completely different from composing music. Are you thinking that since the company is moving into the film industry, you want to contribute as well? Don’t worry, there will be plenty of chances for you to help out when it comes to scoring films. You just need to focus on composing."
Lin Yuan calmly explained, "It won't affect my composing."
Old Zhou shook his head, "It’s not just about whether it affects your music. I know you’re highly creative, but this is way too sudden. Even if I wanted to agree, it would be difficult. Why would the company set up a film crew for you? Our movie department is still in its early stages. If you're eager to get involved, I can promise you that when our film department is up and running, you’ll get your chance to play director."
Old Zhou felt like he was comforting a child who suddenly wanted to play with dangerous toys. He couldn’t help but feel a bit exasperated. As one of the leaders of the film department, Old Zhou was the right person for Lin Yuan to approach, but he wasn’t expecting this kind of request from him.
"Take a look at the script first," Lin Yuan said, pushing the script toward Old Zhou.
Sighing, Old Zhou reluctantly picked it up. As he read, his expression changed slightly. The script wasn’t bad—in fact, the format was spot on, and it was clear that Lin Yuan had put serious thought into it.
What surprised Old Zhou even more was that Lin Yuan hadn’t just written a script; he had outlined specific scenes, camera angles, and actor positions. He had even drawn sketches.
Not long ago, Old Zhou wouldn’t have known what these drawings were for. But after crash-course training in filmmaking, he now understood—they were storyboards! Lin Yuan hadn’t just done the work of a screenwriter; he had taken on tasks usually done by a director, detailing everything in the script!
As for the content...
Well, Old Zhou didn’t quite know what to make of it. It was a classic tale of a scholar and a beauty, though some scenes were rather outlandish, making it hard to follow. For instance, there was a scene where a person was supposed to paint using other people? That was a bit extreme.
Old Zhou found himself struggling to keep up with the young man’s imagination. He didn’t see it as a brilliant concept, just... bizarre.
"This is going to be tough..." Old Zhou muttered after a long pause.
Lin Yuan frowned just as his phone began to ring. He tried to ignore it, but the caller persisted. Reluctantly, he picked it up.
A cheerful voice came through, "Hello, Mr. Xianyu! I’m a manager from Thunder Entertainment..."
"Thunder Entertainment?" Lin Yuan repeated.
Sitting across from him, Old Zhou suddenly turned red, looking unexpectedly tense as he stared at Lin Yuan.
"I..." Lin Yuan started to respond, but Old Zhou couldn’t hold back any longer. He shot up from his chair, visibly agitated. "I took another look at your script, Lin Yuan, and let me tell you—this script is a masterpiece! It’s going to be a massive hit!"
Lin Yuan quickly hung up the phone. "So, we can make it?"
Old Zhou forced a smile, "With such an earth-shattering script, how could we not?"
