I Became an All-round Artist

Chapter 145: Lin Yuan’s Persistence

The next day.

All the composers at Xingmang Entertainment opened the company chat group and the first message they saw was from Gu Qiangyun:
“Congratulations to Representative Lin for securing a deal!”

Although everyone felt that the deal was already solid after hearing "Jianghu Smile," seeing this message still left them a bit stunned.
“Is it really done?”
“No revisions needed?”
“Isn't it normal to have some modification requests?”
“Representative Lin is just that impressive.”
“Bow down to the master!”
“Offering my knees to the master!”
“…”

Under normal circumstances, even if the client was satisfied with a song, they would still suggest some modifications to better fit their game's needs. Only when their satisfaction was at its peak would they select a song without needing any changes.

Clearly, "Jianghu Smile" was that kind of perfect piece that met all the requirements without any need for modifications.
By the way, did the client know how long it took Representative Lin to finalize this song? If they did, their expressions must have been priceless, right?
But maybe not.

At first, everyone was struggling to wrap their heads around it. But after some thought, someone speculated that Representative Lin could complete the order for this martial arts game so quickly because he likely had a backlog of unreleased works. Among those, "Jianghu Smile" was probably one of them, which just happened to fit the client's requirements perfectly. So, he didn't really have to create much; a few simple tweaks, and the song was done…

This led to what everyone perceived as a miraculous scene. It did sound like a coincidence. But compared to the idea of Representative Lin writing a song like "Jianghu Smile" in such a short time, this speculation felt much more reasonable. After all, how could an average person write songs that quickly?

Of course, no one would press Representative Lin for specifics. He clearly seemed like a person not to be trifled with, almost like he had "I'm very aloof" written all over his face.
So, without a solid understanding of him, everyone lacked the courage to strike up conversations, especially since he had already achieved a top position in the field at such a young age.

However, when everyone recalled the previous day when Gu Dong asked Representative Lin what music style he excelled in, and Lin surprisingly replied, “Expensive,” they still found that scene a bit strange today.
What did “expensive” even mean? Do you only excel in expensive styles? Gu Dong specifically asked about styles, so why did he focus on price? Was this the confidence of a big shot? Confidence in being able to master any style?

Of course, no one took it too seriously. With so many music styles out there, how could anyone be proficient in all of them? One could only say that Representative Lin was indeed arrogant, perhaps demonstrating the boldness that comes with talent.

But what everyone was truly concerned about was not Lin Yuan's arrogance but rather his lack of ability.
If someone had the talent, even if they were a bit arrogant in the company, it was something everyone could accept.
They still needed to secure more contracts.

The composition department had always felt a bit restrained when accepting orders, fearing they couldn't handle them. But with Representative Lin now onboard, everyone felt a bit more confident.
Some even went out not with the intention of getting contracts for themselves but solely to secure orders for Representative Lin.

This process was clearly not going to be smooth sailing, as Xingmang Music's reputation in Qizhou was less than stellar.

Lin Yuan thought he would have to take a taxi to the company, but to his surprise, Gu Dong was waiting downstairs early in the morning to pick him up.
“Thank you.”
Lin Yuan spoke as he got into the car.

Seeing Lin Yuan, Gu Dong's mood was completely different now, yet his enthusiasm remained unchanged: “It's quite a distance from here to the company. It’s not convenient for you to take a taxi. My job is to assist you, so I’ll definitely be driving you to and from work, Representative Lin.”

Lin Yuan asked, “What about your previous job?”
Gu Dong replied with a smile, “I used to be an assistant to the manager, but the company can't afford to hire too many assistants. So now I’m assisting you. The manager can handle his own tasks since the company doesn’t have that much business anyway.”

Lin Yuan understood.

After arriving at the company, he knocked on Gu Qiangyun's office door: “Could you send me the details about the company's singers? I need to prepare for recording.”
Gu Qiangyun was taken aback: “Our company has no singers?”

Lin Yuan was also surprised.
The branch company has no singers? Does that mean the songs sold have nothing to do with the company?
Seeing Lin Yuan's expression, Gu Qiangyun guessed what he was thinking and sighed: “Singers fall under the scope of artist management. Our company doesn't have the resources for that. You might be used to things being different at the headquarters.”

Lin Yuan frowned slightly.
To be honest, he didn't like handing over the production of songs to others completely.
Even though these were songs provided by the system, and he wouldn’t earn any extra money from participating in the recording process, he had a bit of a compulsive disorder regarding this—he always worried that someone else would ruin his songs.

For this reason, he was very resistant to such arrangements.
Regardless, if these songs were buried because of his negligence, he would feel responsible.
After all, in another world, these songs were the fruits of someone else's labor.
So, while he was in Qizhou, he usually participated in the recording process of his songs. Only in certain exceptional cases would he delegate the task to others.

However, he couldn't stay in Qizhou for too long, and it was also too late to cultivate a batch of singers in the branch company.
Gu Qiangyun began to feel anxious.
He sensed that Lin Yuan was not very pleased.
While he could figure out solutions for other issues, he truly had no way to manage this one.
He didn't have the extra funds to invest in a singer business.

Realizing Gu Qiangyun's predicament, Lin Yuan spoke: “Let’s put this aside for now. After all, you’re acting according to the contract. But please make sure to clarify with the client before signing contracts in the future that I need decision-making power regarding song recordings and the selection of vocalists.”

“What?!”
Are you serious about challenging the client directly?
Gu Qiangyun felt his mental state collapsing: “Representative Lin, there’s no such rule. In these situations, the client usually makes requests during contract negotiations, and we don’t have the standing to make demands. The client is in charge, and we just need to provide the songs…”

Lin Yuan looked at Gu Qiangyun.
Gu Qiangyun quickly corrected himself: “Of course, I’m not saying we’re the client’s subordinates. Even if we are, you definitely aren’t. But considering the market conditions in Qizhou, we really don’t have the authority to dictate terms to the client. If they don’t make things difficult for us, we should count ourselves lucky!”

“Then we won’t sign.”
Lin Yuan had no intention of backing down.
Even if the client wanted Lin Yuan to modify a song, he would consider it reasonably, as long as the request was something he deemed acceptable.
Once a contract was signed, it was his duty to honor it.
But just handing over the songs without knowing how they would be treated afterward was something Lin Yuan couldn’t accept.

“Representative.”
Gu Qiangyun persuaded: “Please try to understand; Qizhou is different from Qinzhou. There are rules here…”
“Just follow my instructions.”
Lin Yuan nodded slightly and then returned to his office.
