I Became a Mythical-Tier Tamer Due To A System Error

Ch. 35

Chapter 35

When we disembarked at the Grand Galphal, we stepped onto a plain covered with green grass.

This was a place of nature, full of mountains and valleys, water and lush green plants.

Overwhelmed by its beautiful scenery, not a few cadets let out gasps of admiration.

But what was even more spectacular than that.

“I’ve only seen it in books.”

“Seeing it before my eyes, it’s magnificent.”

“As expected of commoners. To make such a fuss over something of this size.”

“I heard this mansion is the largest in the Empire?”

“……”

In the not-so-distant view stood a mansion of considerable scale.

That was the stage for the training retreat.

There were a total of 600 first-year cadets.

It was spacious enough to accommodate such a number with ease.

Rather than a mansion, it felt more like a fortress or palace.

Its left and right ends were nowhere in sight, a truly colossal medieval-style mansion.

“Recorox.”

That was what was written on the outer gate of the mansion.

There wasn’t much information about the Recorox Grand Mansion.

Only that it was the largest mansion in the Empire.

And that it was once home to a figure tied to an old tragedy.

“You’ve worked hard coming all the way here.”

Amidst the murmuring of cadets, a voice was heard, not loud, but clear.

Everyone fell silent and turned toward the direction of the sound.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Professor Peria of Plant Magic, the one leading this school trip.”

Her long green hair was disheveled.

Perhaps from exhaustion, her shoulders drooped with no strength, and dark circles shadowed her face—it was Professor Peria.

“As you all know, the Recorox Grand Mansion carries a tragic history within Yggdrasil’s…… hey, you two over there.”

Professor Peria’s gaze turned toward a spot.

Two cadets stood awkwardly with pens in hand.

They were so close to the outer gate that it looked as if they were about to scribble something on it.

“……S-sorry.”

Their faces flushed red, the cadets hastily tucked their pens away.

Professor Peria sighed as though it were a bother.

“This mansion belongs to Yggdrasil. Bear in mind that if any damage were to be done to the mansion, you may be liable for compensation.”

Professor Peria drew out her wand and turned toward the outer gate.

“……Whatever the case, what matters is that you behave yourselves quietly. Now, follow me.”

With a weak wave of her wand, the firmly shut outer gate opened wide.

When Professor Peria took the lead, the 600 cadets followed behind.

True to the grandeur of its name, the distance from the outer gate to the mansion was long.

As we walked along the marble path leading to the main entrance, I glanced around.

On both sides stretched out vast gardens.

Yet, they weren’t the kind of scenes I had expected, like a grand fountain spraying water or a neatly tended garden.

“……This is really our lodging, right?”

“Feels like some haunted house……”

“It’s a bit unsettling.”

Voices of cadets, their anticipation deflating.

Compared to what one might expect of a place called a grand mansion, the garden was not magnificent.

Instead, it carried an eerie feeling.

Lifeless, neglected for long, with no trace of human care.

The large fountain was bone-dry, filled with dust and overrun with vines.

Trees and grass left untended for ages looked dull and somehow desolate.

“It’s the very image of abandonment.”

As I slowly surveyed the place, my eyes turned to a hidden corner of the garden.

Partly concealed by trees, but faintly visible.

Three small graves.

The place where the mansion’s former master was buried, existing like an Easter egg.

“I’ll have to stop by later.”

With that thought, we eventually reached the front of the mansion.

“This is the main entrance.”

When Professor Peria swung her wand, the doors on both sides opened at once, revealing the interior.

What greeted us, alongside exclamations of awe, was a magnificent lobby.

Red carpet and crystal chandeliers, golden lights gleaming brilliantly.

It wasn’t only stately but also richly elegant.

And vast enough to still have plenty of space even with hundreds of people inside.

“As expected!”

“Of course, this is fitting for a place prepared by Yggdrasil.”

The cadets let out short cheers.

Karin too looked around at the ceiling and surroundings in admiration.

“It’s huge, isn’t it?”

“Yeah. I think even the sea otters could run around here.”

“Oh? True. Normally you’d get scolded for running inside a building, but in a place this wide, maybe it’s fine……?”

While Karin and Lapin chatted away, I silently observed the surroundings.

“You may each unpack in your assigned rooms and then act freely.”

At Professor Peria’s words, I pulled out the key from my pocket.

It had been distributed to each group before disembarking from the Galphal.

My key was marked with Room 308.

Lapin’s was 307, and Karin’s was 309.

Following the professor’s instructions, the 600 cadets quietly made their way in two lines to their rooms.

Creak.

When I opened the door, an old creaking sound followed as the inside of the room revealed itself.

A spacious and pleasant sight.

A white bed, curtains swaying beside an open window.

“Feels like a five-star hotel has nothing on this.”

I set down my luggage and sat briefly on the bed.

As I sat quietly, faint sounds came from the next room.

“Look at this, the blankets are soft, and the bed is so fluffy.”

“Mm……”

“Lapin, if you lie down and fall asleep right away……!”

Perhaps the soundproofing wasn’t very good.

In any case, it seemed they liked their room as well.

Knock, knock.

Just as I was resting, I heard someone knocking on the door.

When I opened it, Karin and Lapin were waiting outside.

“Lapin and I were going to the back hill together. What about you?”

The garden was bleak and dried up.

The only sight worth seeing was probably the back hill where nature spread out.

Most of the cadets would likely head there.

I planned to avoid their eyes and go somewhere else.

“I have something to do.”

“Really? Then we’ll go ahead first.”

I nodded in reply, and they went down the stairs before me.

After some time had passed.

The once noisy corridor grew quiet.

“Shall I go now.”

I went down to the first floor and headed toward the corner of the garden.

“It should be around here.”

After wandering around, I found three small gravestones.

Without knowing the approximate location, it would have been hard to find.

It was a corner where light barely reached, hidden by untended trees.

“Just like in the game.”

On the central grave lay a small, withered flower crown.

I picked it up.

Unkept Promise.

That was the name of the item.

It was one of the few Easter eggs in this mansion.

“The more insurance, the better.”

I slipped it into my pocket and looked at the grave for a moment.

It was covered in dust.

Even the garden was neglected, so it seemed no one had taken care of the tombstone either.

“At this rate, nothing can even be read.”

The gravestone was so unclear it was hard to make out anything.

I took a handkerchief from my pocket.

I swept away the dirt that had piled on the grave.

After repeating the task, letters slowly began to emerge on the tombstone.

“Dellow Raymond (A.r 177 ~ A.r 218)

Lucy Raymond (A.r 207 ~ A.r 215)

Shurk Raymond (A.r 207 ~ A.r 215)”

“Lucy.”

A girl who died before she could even bloom.

And.

“The boss monster of this episode.”

She turned into a wraith, ruling the mansion at night while using illusions as her theme.

“I wonder what led her to become a wraith.”

Seeing the grave in person, I felt a curiosity about what story had been left behind.

“Neither the lore book nor the developers ever revealed the details.”

No matter how much effort was spent analyzing related characters’ dialogue or searching for Easter eggs.

In the end, the game never revealed the truth either.

“Well, it doesn’t matter anymore anyway.”

Earning a high grade and avoiding failure.

That was my top priority.

In the evening, a banquet began.

On the first floor lobby, tables large enough to seat 600 people were prepared.

Upon them were all sorts of luxurious dishes.

Perhaps because it had grown dark outside, the mansion’s lights and chandeliers seemed even brighter.

“Wow, it really is free time just like the schedule said?”

“We can rest well for a few days!”

The cadets looked quite satisfied with life in the mansion.

Though everyone was chattering noisily, I quietly activated the ✿Animal✿Farm✿ system.

Screech.

Fwaaah.

It was Hwayo, greeting me energetically as though sensing my gaze from inside the system.

When I clicked on them, information appeared.

Soul Flame ‘Hwayo’

Level: 7

Mood: A little hungry, Stress 6%.

Absolute Shell ‘Boogie’

Level: 6

Mood: Normal, Stress 0%.

During livestock shed activities, experience points were sometimes given as rewards.

Thanks to that, their experience had risen slightly even without combat.

“They’ll evolve someday…… but at this low level, it still feels far away.”

I didn’t remember the exact requirement for evolution, but at the very least, they had to exceed level 10 to shed the “infant” stage.

“Whatever the case, eat well and grow strong.”

I sent a few eggs into the system.

I felt a gaze from beside me.

“What’s that…… some kind of religious ritual?”

Karin was staring at me strangely.

Since the system was invisible, it must have looked like I was pointing at empty air.

“Do I look like someone who believes in anything?”

“Well, true, if you did believe in God……”

If I did, I probably wouldn’t have acted like a delinquent—was that what she meant to say?

Realizing mid-sentence it was a mistake, Karin stopped herself from saying it aloud.

Even past 9 o’clock, the banquet showed no sign of ending.

Lapin and Karin were sitting quietly, talking together.

It seemed they didn’t enjoy being in a noisy crowd very much.

“Haam……”

Just then, Lapin let out a small yawn.

I stood up and replied.

“If you’re sleepy, it’s not a bad idea to sleep early. I’ll go up first.”

“Mm…… I want to sleep too. What about you, Karin?”

Lapin rubbed her eyes as she asked.

“Oh, you’re sleepy? Then I’ll go with you.”

Karin nodded and stood up together with Lapin.

We climbed up to the third floor and were about to head into our rooms.

“See you tomorrow.”

“Wait a moment.”

I stopped the yawning Lapin and Karin.

“As soon as you go inside, sleep right away. Change into workout clothes that are easy to move in. And keep your weapon at hand.”

“……Huh?”

Karin blinked.

She looked like she wanted an explanation.

“I got information that there’ll be a night practice.”

“We’ll be woken up at night?”

Karin sighed with a disappointed expression.

“Of course, no wonder it’s called a trip to hell…… I was planning to carve some totems, but guess I better sleep early. Then see you tomorrow…… no, in a little while.”

After making sure they entered their rooms, I also went into mine.

I looked at the clock first.

The time was now 9:20.

There were about two and a half hours left until midnight.

“This is the only time I can rest properly.”

I immediately changed into workout clothes and lay on the bed.

To prepare for the upcoming main event, I needed even a little rest.

“Seems the other cadets plan to stay up late.”

At midnight, the real episode would begin.

There wouldn’t be much time to rest after that.

So to conserve my energy as much as possible, I closed my eyes and slept.

Time passed, and when the clock’s hands pointed exactly at 12.

Kuuuuuuuuuuung!

The mansion trembled with a sinister vibration, and I immediately opened my eyes.
