Chapter 86: The So-called Height Difference
Chapter 86: The So-called Height Difference
“Ah. Finally, I’ve managed to finish all these tasks. Today is truly the most exhausting anniversary I’ve ever experienced.”
After the City Lord reviewed all the documents, he stood up and stretched.
“Oh no! It’s already this late. I need to hurry up and change clothes for the Evening Party!”
Noticing the time on the clock, the City Lord realized he had been too engrossed in work to pay attention to how late it was. He quickly instructed a few Maids to help him change and get ready.
“Thankfully, I should still have enough time.”
Once the series of preparations was complete, the City Lord checked his watch and rushed towards the venue. Thank goodness, it seemed he wouldn’t be too late for the Evening Party.
“Hey, sorry everyone! I’m late!”
As soon as the City Lord arrived at the venue, he found many Nobles of all sizes waiting for him.
“City Lord, long time no see! You still look as magnificent as ever!”
A cheerful young man with golden hair approached him with a grin.
“Oh, Luke! You’re still the same as well. By the way, how are things going with Veil? Have you successfully gotten engaged? If you’ve decided on a wedding date, be sure to let me know; I’ll definitely come and cheer you on.”
“Don’t worry, City Lord! If the wedding date is set, I’ll inform you for sure.”
“Ha ha, hearing that puts my mind at ease. You’re much more reliable than your father!”
After exchanging pleasantries with the golden-haired youth, the City Lord moved on to greet other Nobles.
“The City Lord really seems busy.”
Every step the City Lord took resulted in being surrounded by Nobles eager to greet him, and Aierjisi felt the struggle of the City Lord.
“Of course! Many Nobles want to build a good relationship with the City Lord here. It could benefit their families later,” Yin explained while sipping her cocktail.
“Mm. I can understand that.”
Back during her time in the Royal Palace, it was the same. At Evening Parties, many Nobles would come to greet her, but none of them genuinely wanted a connection; they were only there for their families’ interests, what with her being a member of royalty.
As for Yake, he had been quiet all along. After all, he was just a commoner. He couldn’t relate to the discussions about Noble worries that Yin and Aierjisi were having. He could only silently munch on snacks and sip a drink.
“Ah, you all came too!”
Finally, after finishing his greetings with the other Nobles, the City Lord made his way to Aierjisi’s side.
“Of course! You sent us an invitation. If we didn’t come, it would look like I’m disrespecting you, right?”
“Haha, that’s not the case at all! I just wanted to give you a bit of care before you leave. I’m guessing you’ll be heading out tomorrow.”
In the face of Aierjisi’s words, the City Lord burst into laughter.
“Oh? How did you know we’re leaving tomorrow? Did that Angel contact you too?”
“No, no! I’m not at your level. I’m just a slightly higher-level NPC. There’s no way an Angel would reach out to me! If I had to say, it’s probably just the intuition of the City Lord. I assure you, I’m not useless either.”
The City Lord had felt it as well. If it weren’t for the fact they were staying to help him deal with that A Jie, they would have likely left long ago.
Now that things had been resolved, there was no reason for them to linger, and they would probably set off for other places the next day. Being from Earth like them, he wanted to provide as much hospitality as he could, so they would leave with fond memories of the city.
“Looks like I indeed underestimated you, City Lord.”
Aierjisi had to admit that the City Lord had some skills. Without her saying anything, he knew they were leaving the next day.
“So, what do you think about this Evening Party? Are you having fun? For a little girl who was once a Princess, of course.”
“City Lord, please don’t joke about that! How could I possibly have fun at this kind of party? Surrounded by strangers I don’t know, there’s no way I can relax and enjoy.”
Aierjisi squinted her eyes as she criticized the City Lord. Did he really not know whether she was enjoying the Evening Party or not?
“I suppose you’re right. Ah, I guess I was thinking too simply. I originally wanted you to enjoy yourselves before you left, but instead, I made you feel this way. I’m truly sorry.”
The City Lord also had to admit that he had underestimated the situation. An Evening Party was supposed to be a gathering of familiar faces; inviting Aierjisi, a stranger, would naturally make her uncomfortable.
“Alright, City Lord. If you really want to apologize, then you should get away from me quickly. Just your presence is drawing too many eyes, making me feel increasingly uncomfortable.”
Feeling those piercing gazes that seemed ready to pierce through her, Aierjisi urged the City Lord to leave. Most of the stares were directed at him, after all.
“Okay, I’ll leave, but before I go, there’s something I want to tell you.”
“What is it? Go ahead.”
“It’s a pity not to dance with your companions at a party you finally managed to attend. Yin, would you care to dance with me?”
“Honored to oblige, City Lord.”
With that, the City Lord took Yin’s hand and left, heading off to find a spot to dance.
Hmm… Dance, huh? While dancing is indeed part of the Evening Party’s events, the current issue is…
“What’s up? Why are you suddenly looking at me? Want to dance with me?”
Seeing Aierjisi shift her gaze to him, Yake paused his chewing, incredulously asking if she wanted to dance with him.
“Can you?”
If it’s dancing, she had learned a little during her time in the Royal Palace. However, this commoner Yake probably never learned to dance at all.
Moreover, the height difference was significant—typically, dance partners were chosen based on similar heights. But with Yake… her height barely reached his chest. How could they possibly dance like this?
