Chapter 43: Just a Casual Thing
Chapter 43: Just a Casual Thing
“Ah… it hurts! What on earth happened?”
A Jie and the three Magical Beasts had been relocated to the outskirts of the City. All three of them were now clutching their wounds, moaning in agony.
“Oh dear! Your actions were far too reckless this time! Aierjisi isn’t the sort of opponent you can just charge at blindly!”
Gilbaris extended his palm towards them, releasing a blue particle of light that healed their wounds and eased their pain.
“Ah, I feel so much better now. Huh? Lord Gilbaris?!”
When the Bird saw Gilbaris, it immediately knelt down in awe. That was just how much respect it held for him.
The other Leopard and passersby also knelt down, bowing their heads upon spotting him.
“Huh? You are Gilbaris?”
A Jie only now realized that the one who had granted him power was none other than Gilbaris.
Previously, when he heard the Bird talk about Gilbaris, he thought he was a horrific trainer or something. Turns out it was nothing like what he expected.
“I guess it doesn’t matter what you call me anymore. My name is irrelevant.”
Gilbaris spread his arms, feeling that clinging to a name was pointless at this moment.
“Ah… right, right! About what you said earlier. Aierjisi isn’t someone you can simply defeat by being reckless. What does that mean?”
“Exactly what it sounds like. Aierjisi is not only powerful but also quite cunning. You should have figured this out from the traps she set. She’s a sinister and ruthless woman. If I hadn’t quickly opened a Wormhole to bring you here, you would have been completely done in by her traps.”
Reflecting on the chain of traps Aierjisi set for A Jie and the others, Gilbaris couldn’t help but marvel at her slyness.
He had thought that the princess was a beautiful flower growing in a greenhouse. Now it seemed he had seriously underestimated her.
“Hmph! That was just us being careless. If I got serious, I could easily crush someone like her!”
A Jie clearly dismissed Gilbaris’s criticism. It was all that girl’s traps and his own carelessness that led to this blunder.
“Oh? Is that so?”
Gilbaris narrowed his eyes. A Jie’s words were merely excuses for his failure. Deep down, he didn’t believe he was in the wrong. So, he decided to just stay out of it.
“Of course! With the power you bestowed upon me, how could she possibly be my opponent? I’m invincible now!”
“Oh? Is that so? You sound quite brave!”
“Of course! I’m super brave, okay?”
“Alright. Since you’re so brave, my worries seem unnecessary. You can handle whatever comes next. As for capturing those two, you don’t have to worry about it. Just cause a ruckus in the City. Farewell, we won’t meet again.”
Gilbaris was already fed up with A Jie. From the start, he was just a disposable pawn; as long as he could stir up trouble for Aierjisi and slow her down, giving his comrades some time, that was all that mattered.
“Hey, what do you mean by that? You just planning to leave me here? Hey!”
As Gilbaris stepped into the Wormhole and vanished, A Jie angrily shouted after him.
Damn it! Everyone keeps underestimating me. I need to achieve something spectacular to make those who looked down on me take a good look!
“Ah… there’s nothing more comfortable in the world than a warm bath. Don’t you agree, Yake?”
“zzz…”
After their warm bath, the two returned to the Rest Room. Aierjisi asked Yake about his experience, only to find him sprawled on the bed, fast asleep.
“Seriously, you fell asleep that quickly? How lame. Though, I’m not far behind. Goodnight.”
After criticizing Yake’s sleeping face, Aierjisi closed her eyes and drifted off to dreamland.
“City Lord. Excuse me, are you still there?”
Yin stood at the door, gently knocking twice on the City Lord’s room.
“Come in. I’m still here.”
“Alright, I’m coming in.”
With the City Lord’s permission, Yin entered the room.
“Is there something you need to report?”
The City Lord looked at Yin. Coming to his room in the middle of the night meant she must have something important to discuss.
“Yes. Actually, I just received some intel from Miss Aierjisi regarding the collapse of an inn.”
“Hmm. Go on, what’s the issue?”
Upon hearing it was information from Aierjisi, the City Lord frowned. If it came from her, then something significant must have happened.
“According to Miss Aierjisi, the inn was destroyed by an unidentified individual accompanied by a Blue Leopard and a Giant. Could this have something to do with the invaders you mentioned targeting Bield City?”
“Hmm… that does sound connected. If possible, I want to have a face-to-face conversation with Aierjisi about this.”
A Blue Leopard and a Giant. Creatures that don’t exist in this world. If that little princess isn’t lying, then this incident is surely related to the invaders targeting Bield City that I anticipated.
“Miss Aierjisi is currently at the City Lord’s Mansion. Do you want me to bring her here?”
Right now, the Little Princess is also looking for a place to stay, so it would make sense to bring her to the City Lord’s Mansion. If needed, he could fetch her at this very moment.
“No, it’s late now. I need to finish these documents before resting. We can talk more tomorrow during the day.”
The City Lord noticed the time was creeping towards one in the morning. He needed sleep; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to function. Plus, that little princess was surely already sound asleep by now. Both of them needed a good night’s rest.
“Okay, I understand. I’ll arrange for you to meet with her tomorrow.”
“Mm. Thank you for all your help, Yin. I appreciate everything you’ve done.”
The City Lord looked at Yin. Ever since he appointed her as his assistant, she had truly been a great help. Whether it was dealing with the dirty work of clearing the Old District or organizing his daily schedule, she had done an outstanding job.
“City Lord, you’re being too polite. Everything I do is just my duty. You don’t need to thank me.”
