Chapter 40: Let Him Run
Chapter 40: Let Him Run
“Seeing this feels so pitiful, haha!”
Watching those four clowns fall victim to the chain traps I set up is just too much. Aierjisi is rolling on the ground, clutching her stomach and laughing uncontrollably.
“Your traps are really well made.”
Yake also gives high praise to the traps created by the Little Princess.
First, she blinded them with intense light, throwing them into a state of confusion. Once their sight was gone, she manipulated the surrounding plants to bind them, robbing them of their mobility. Enemies who’ve lost both sight and movement can only suffer as the ice spikes rain down upon them. This trap is just downright mean!
Yake can’t help but think how lucky he is that the Little Princess isn’t his enemy. Otherwise, with that magic, he would be severely injured—or worse!
“Shouldn’t we head back? They’ve been bombarded by your ice spikes for about ten minutes now. They must be incapacitated, right?”
Those poor souls have been bombarded for a good ten minutes; surely, they’ve lost consciousness by now. In fact, Yake stopped hearing their screams after the fourth minute.
“How about you go scout ahead? Be careful! Those guys reek of Adrian People—it might not be as easy as it looks.”
Given the nauseating stench emanating from them, those guys are likely tied to the Adrian People. It’s possible they’re responsible for the guard’s demise today, too.
Considering the tenacity of such folks, Aierjisi warns Yake to stay cautious. They could very well pull a surprise attack at any moment.
“Don’t worry! After being bombarded by your magic for ten minutes, no matter who they are, there’s no way they survived!”
Yake has a considerable amount of faith in the abilities of his Little Princess. They might’ve turned into a puddle of mush by now!
“Better safe than sorry, right?”
“Alright! I’ll go check it out. If it’s safe, I’ll wave at you!”
“Okay! Hurry back!”
With a swift kick to Yake’s rear, Aierjisi sends him off.
“Ouch! Aier, could you not kick my butt next time? That hurts!”
Rubbing his rear, Yake walks towards A Jie and the others, initially worried about whether or not they would retaliate, keeping his fingers ready to snipe.
“Eh? Where did those guys go?”
When Yake finally arrives, he realizes those four are nowhere to be found. Other than some bloodstains on the ground, there’s absolutely no trace left.
Strange. Even if they were turned into mush, they wouldn’t just vanish into thin air. Could it be they ran away? That doesn’t seem possible—they were under the control of the Little Princess’s magic and couldn’t have escaped!
【Yake, how is it over there? Is it safe?】
Seeing Yake standing still, Aierjisi reaches out with their Contract for a mental chat.
【Uh? Oh, I’m not sure if it’s safe here.】
【Hmm? What happened?】
【Well, I only see residual bloodstains here; no bodies. They should’ve been under your magic’s control and couldn’t escape!】
Yake is still baffled by this. How on earth did they get away?
【They must’ve been rescued by Gilbaris. With that guy’s abilities, it’s totally normal for him to open a teleportation gate and save them.】
Since the distance was quite far, Aierjisi can’t be completely sure they were whisked away by Gilbaris.
【So, what do we do next? Are we going to camp out here for the night?】
【No, just stay there and wait for me. I’m coming over now.】
After finishing the conversation, Aierjisi leaps into the air, soaring towards Yake. In less than a minute, she lands beside him.
“Aier. What do you think?”
Yake points at the bizarre scene, inviting the Little Princess to take a look.
“Hmm. Likely Gilbaris’s doing. Let’s not dwell on this for now; we should find a place to stay the night.”
Aierjisi glances around. Worrying about this won’t do any good—they should focus on finding somewhere to sleep. After all, the night is just getting started!
“Yeah, let’s head back and see if we can rescue anyone from the ruins.”
Yake turns and heads toward the inn’s wreckage. Unlike the heartless Aierjisi, he’s willing to do everything he can to save even a single life. That’s one of the things the Little Princess admires about him.
“Yake-san, Aierjisi-san? Are you two alright?”
As they return to the ruins, they bump into Yin, who has come for rescue efforts. She’s surprised to find them both safe, given the inn’s destruction.
“Yeah, thanks to Aier. When those troublemakers wrecked the first floor, she had me jump out the window and hide in the woods at the back, which saved us.”
Remembering how they jumped just a minute before the inn crumbled, Yake feels a chill down his spine. Thank goodness for Aier, who has such sharp instincts; otherwise, they’d probably be in serious trouble today.
“Is that so? Aierjisi-san.”
Yin looks at Aierjisi, astonished that such a young girl could pull off something like that.
“Yes. Those guys made a huge racket on the first floor that woke me from my sweet dreams. But I thought it was just an earthquake or something, so I took Yake and jumped out the window. I had no idea it was a man-made disaster.”
Aierjisi glances at Yake, remembering how loud the ruckus was from A Jie and the others, while Yake slept like a log. How does he manage to sleep so soundly?
“Do you two know who did this? We received a distress signal from the inn, and when we arrived, it was already in ruins.”
Since they’ve dodged the inn’s collapse, it’s possible they may have seen who was responsible. They might provide a clue to track that villain down.
“Well, sorry, but we were hiding far away and couldn’t see them clearly. But if we have to say… there was a guy with black hair and glasses. Oh, and there was a blue bird, a blue leopard, and a blue giant too.”
Aierjisi shares the description of those four with Yin, hoping these clues will help her out.
