Chapter 10 - Defensive Battle (2)
While going down the stairs, the feet of the man descending in front of me suddenly stopped.
The man took out potion bottles from his pocket and held them out to me.
“Take these, they’re potions the captain told me to give you.”
There were five potions in total.
“If it’s not enough, find me while you’re still alive or return to the castle on your own.”
“Understood.”
Unlike Ricelin, the captain of the Lucerna mercenary group, this man spoke informally without hesitation, but I didn’t dislike it or feel offended. He just seemed to be taking the current situation very seriously.
[NPC – ‘Lucerna Mercenary Group Attack Captain’ Ed]
Ed also handed me some bandages.
I opened my mouth.
“Do you think we can drive them away?”
The number of orcs looked to be at least one hundred and fifty at a glance.
Ed, with a noticeable scar above his right eyebrow, spoke indifferently.
“The fact that they’ve advanced with that many numbers means the Orc King wants the complete fall of Kicleve. It’s not just to test the waters or do a little plundering. In this situation, completely driving away the orc army isn’t our role.”
Ed continued in a low voice.
“Our role is to hold out while hitting and retreating. Killing all of them and beheading the Orc King isn’t our job, but the role of the knights who will arrive soon.”
I couldn’t fully agree with those words.
Because I alone knew what Ed and all the soldiers on this land didn’t know.
That this was Pandemonium difficulty.
The armament was complete.
I heard the voice of Ricelin, the captain of the Lucerna mercenary group, from beside me.
“Our role is to hold out. As we always do. Yuseong, let’s defend by maintaining the battle line together.”
Ricelin’s words were very similar to Ed’s earlier statement.
It’s a rational choice.
“I’m sorry.”
But such a choice isn’t the right answer for me.
“I’ll do as I see fit.”
“What?”
I passed by Ricelin with her blank face.
The answer I came to was a life-or-death struggle.
I stepped forward strongly.
Fortunately, what the ‘Sparring Golem mk.2′ gave me wasn’t just pain.
The fear of this situation died.
Hesitation disappeared.
I held a short spear for throwing that I took out from my inventory in my right hand.
Roar!
I swung my arm towards the head of the orc at the very front.
The short spear pierced between the orc’s eyes. The orc’s body collapsed to the ground. Instant death.
That’s one for now.
Swish!
I drew my straight sword and ran.
So fast that the sound of wind brushing past could be heard.
[Concentration Enhancement Lv.2 – Skill activated.]
Swoosh!
I dodged the orc’s axe coming down vertically by letting my body flow.
As I dove under its chin, I could see the orc’s surprised eyes. I thrust the sword right into its neck.
Squelch!
I pulled out the sword while kicking the orc’s abdomen.
Splash!
Blood droplets scattered widely in an arc.
That’s two.
The gazes of all the nearby orcs focused on me.
I utilized the small amount of mana settled at the bottom of my mana heart throughout my body.
Two orcs charging at me simultaneously came into view.
Thick legs and forearms with clear muscles. The pectoral muscles exposed over the skin were armor in themselves. Monsters.
I have to hunt all those monsters.
[Mana Body Enhancement Lv.1 – Skill activated.]
Strength surging throughout my body.
There’s no reason to hide that strength.
Roaaaar!
A roar spewing out of the two orcs’ mouths. And the trajectory of a spear coming down and an axe cutting through the air.
Whack!
I twisted my whole body in an instant by twisting my toes.
Something I could do because of Mana Body Enhancement.
It was a charge that momentarily surpassed the limits of my physical abilities.
Blind spot.
I entered an area of vulnerability that the two orcs couldn’t prepare for.
I stretched out my right arm holding the straight sword.
Dragon Slaying Sword.
2nd Form.
Hjartagnyr.
The straight sword was thrust into the abdomen of the orc slightly more forward diagonally.
While pulling out the sword, I swung it horizontally.
An additional diagonal slash was carved into the body of the orc that had been stabbed in the abdomen.
The head of the orc next to it flew up along with its right arm.
That’s four.
Roaaaaar!
In that moment, another orc had approached.
I didn’t see it.
Because I was focusing all my attention on the two I had just killed.
A flash of light trajectory obscured my vision.
Crack!
An axe was embedded in my right shoulder blade.
Even though I was wearing armor, pain exploded in my mind.
The strength in my right arm completely drained.
My body moved instinctively.
The positions of me and the orc crossed. The orc’s body staggered and swayed to the side.
I had succeeded in instantly switching the hand holding the straight sword to my left and delivering a horizontal slash.
I twisted my body backward and thrust the sword towards the orc’s heart.
And pulled it out.
[Your level has increased!]
[Lv.4 → Lv.5]
[‘Strength’ stat increases by 5.]
[‘Agility’ stat increases by 4.]
[‘Vitality’ stat increases by 6.]
[‘Mana’ stat increases by 2.]
It flew away in an instant.
The accumulated fatigue.
The pain that had been throbbing in my shoulder until just now completely disappeared.
When the level rises, all physical wounds are healed.
It was the moment that rule was confirmed.
Whew.
I caught my breath.
I saw the corpses of orcs lying on the ground with their breath cut off and the red blood flowing from their bodies.
The thin puddles here and there were all made of red blood.
“……”
The movements of the orcs surrounding me had come to a sudden stop.
What’s this, could they be scared?
Ricelin, the captain of the Lucerna mercenary group, was dumbfounded.
Since arriving at Kicleve Castle, an autonomous city in the Ermaine Empire, it had been a series of bewildering situations.
The first was that proper reinforcements still hadn’t arrived.
And the second was that the enemy orc forces numbered close to one hundred and fifty.
The third was when the man who had smashed orcs’ heads and pierced their hearts by throwing short spears said he would participate in the all-out battle with her.
He might die so easily.
Yuseong.
The young man who looked to be around twenty had revealed his name like that to her.
A strange name that sounded like an alias at first hearing.
She had welcomed him, putting aside her bewilderment, because his calm throwing of short spears to pierce the orcs’ hearts and heads from the top of the wall seemed capable of playing a significant role.
But from the start, he deviated from the battle line and began killing orcs on his own.
And quite skillfully at that.
The orcs that had been rushing in recklessly at first had now suddenly stopped moving. As if time had frozen.
‘They’re overwhelmed by Yuseong’s momentum.’
Ricelin swallowed hard and readjusted her grip on her drawn sword.
Roaaaaaaar─!
What broke that silence was the thunderous roar of a large orc.
Though not the Orc King, it was clearly the one acting as the commander on this battlefield.
‘Orc Army Commander.’
Ricelin knew of him.
He was called the Red Commander because he carried a red flag.
When the commander shouted as if to tear eardrums, the orcs that had come to their senses began to charge at Han again.
Han, seemingly tireless, clashed with them holding a sword in his right hand and the short spear she had given him in his left.
“Everyone join in! Chaaarge!”
At Ricelin’s shout, the mercenary group uniformly charged towards the orc army, each holding their weapons.
She had no intention of engaging in a real all-out battle.
She only planned to hold out moderately until the knights arrived.
But that Yuseong character had stirred things up too much.
It might be doable.
Enough to make her have such a crazy thought.
As the war began on one side.
【 Transcendent Gallery 】
Most of the Transcendent Gallery was still floundering in the debate of ‘Who became Delisa’s husband?’
Title: Surely Delisa’s husband isn’t Cobin, right?
Author: ㅇㅇ
I don’t think I could have lost to such a lousy knight ㅇㅇ
ㄴ AbsoluteMonarch) Surely not Cobin… It must be one of the Seven Heroes. Probably Voltas or Greven?
ㄴ No, Monarch hyung. If she married one of the Seven Heroes, would they make their daughter a mercenary captain? Let’s think about this coldly.
ㄴ SpearKing) That’s a very plausible analysis. It really could be Cobin or Podran….
ㄴ Can you witness the story of a monarch getting NTR’d by an average knight, not even a hero?
ㄴ Fuck ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ㄴ I could accept it if he was at least a knight. I’m grateful it’s not Villager A.
ㄴ SewerSwordSaint) No, no. The more I think about it, the worse I feel and the more meaningless all the realms I’ve built up seem, so let’s stop. This nutritionless argument.
ㄴ Looks like Sewer is having a major reality check ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ㄴ Ah, let’s stop ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
ㄴ Pioneer) It really does look pointless, so let’s stop.
ㄴ Climber ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Anyway, if you see this post, make sure to ask.
ㄴ If the answer isn’t revealed, delusions will pile on delusions on delusions.
ㄴ We need a superman to end this infinite cycle of delusion wars fr
There were posts on other topics as well.
Title: For the climber to get the 1st place score on the 2nd floor stage ranking.
Author: ArchMage
Setting a time record is virtually impossible due to Pandemonium difficulty. The only option is to kill a lot.
ㄴ LightSword) ㅇㅇ It might work if we go by kill count.
ㄴ These crazy guys are talking about 1st place scores when it’s a matter of life and death.
ㄴ You shouldn’t try to understand the thinking of hardcore completers with an ordinary person’s mind.
ㄴ HeavenlyDemon) More importantly, I think we should decide in advance who will be the next trade partner when the climber’s inter-dimensional trade cooldown is over. Let’s do it on a first-come, first-served basis. Since this one brought up the topic, this one gets top priority.
ㄴ …Wow, is this the HeavenlyDemon? Not an impersonator? He seems too lowly.
ㄴ Priestess) Hawawa, I don’t think trades will only be possible in the floor waiting rooms. The cooldown will probably reset after the exchange meeting. I think it’s right to give what’s needed when he gets to the 3rd floor stage.
ㄴ HeavenlyDemon) …Why are you suddenly spouting logical words? It doesn’t suit you. Let’s go with first-come, first-served, I said.
ㄴ ArchMage) Let’s do as the Priestess said ㅇㅇ
ㄴ IceQueen) Freeze! I’ll be looking for an opportunity too! An opportunity to help the climber…!
ㄴ DragonKing) Hue, beltu-i- I’ve awakened from hibernation. Did something happen…? The gallery has become lively.
ㄴ LightSword) Go back to sleep.
ㄴ DragonKing) Beltu-i- LightSword, I’m so happy to see you but so scared. I won’t sleep.
ㄴ LightSword) Die.
Today too, time in the gallery was flowing peacefully.
