Chapter 28
“Uncle John, this is Leon, the brother of that girl who saved Hanna’s life.”
The burly old man seemed to notice something off about Leon’s condition, perhaps harboring some inexplicable hostility towards him. The refined middle-aged man quickly interjected with an explanation:
“Do you remember the hospital pipe explosion from the other day? He was the one who冒险shut off the valve, saving hundreds of lives!”
“Oh!”
Upon hearing about Leon’s heroic deed, a semblance of emotion finally flickered across the burly old man’s rigid face.
He slightly curled his distorted lips into what could be called more of a grotesque smirk than a friendly smile, then suddenly lunged forward, lightly supporting the chins of the nurse couple with speed almost imperceptible to the human eye.
Caught off guard by their acquaintance’s attack, the couple didn’t even have time to groan before they fainted on the spot, eyes rolling back.
Before the burly old man knocked them out, Leon had already extended his hands, bracing the couple’s backs and forcefully pushing them toward him before decisively turning and bolting straight into the inner room where the nurses slept.
“Tsk…”
Seeing Leon’s move, the burly old man couldn’t help but let out a dissatisfied “tsk,” his face full of annoyance. Before the couple hit the ground, he caught both with gentle actions and laid them softly on the carpet.
After handling the unconscious couple, the extinguished cigar in the corner of his mouth reignited without wind as the burly old man reached into his wicker basket behind him, pulling out the enormous gardening scissors. With a deadpan expression, he dragged the monstrous tool, limping toward the inner room.
…
What rotten luck! I finally meet an ‘alignment good’ anomalous item, but because its soul is tainted with demon vibes, it ends up hunting me down!
Listening to the eerie sound of the large scissors scraping against the floor, Leon couldn’t help but grimace as he kicked at the security latch on the window, ignoring any potential damage to the nurse couple’s property. “Squeak!”
With the harsh metallic squeal, Leon ripped off the latch, opening the window intending to escape, trying desperately to distance himself from the clearly formidable burly old man.
But just then, his head spun slightly, and the Black Goat’s calm reminder echoed in his ears.
“Kid, we advise you not to jump!”
Leon couldn’t help but pause momentarily.
Why shouldn’t he jump? The guy with the scissors will be here any second. Shouldn’t he jump instead of staying for some kind of royal showdown? Even though his leg was disabled, his build… Hmm… Wait a minute! As thoughts raced through his mind, Leon once again plunged his hand into the shopping bag, hastily petting the sheep head. To his immense shock, he realized that at some point, the murderous aura of the old man’s soul had slipped through the floor like a fish, slowly advancing directly below him.
If he climbed down the security railing, he’d likely get intercepted between the second and third floors by the old man wielding the giant scissors!
Devious! This old man is way too devious!
Suppressing the urge to curse loudly, Leon hurriedly retreated from the inner room, leapt over the unconscious nurse couple, and bolted out the door.
Without concern for injuring his knees, cradling the sheep head, he took five or six steps at once, descending half a floor in two strides, sprinting downward faster than ever before!
Seemingly realizing Leon hadn’t jumped out the window, the old man’s soul paused briefly within his spiritual vision before sluggishly heading toward the stairs.
“One more push, kid, or he’ll catch up~”
Hearing the Black Goat’s mocking reminder, Leon felt his heart tighten, knowing his speed still wasn’t enough. Biting his lip, he began attempting to grab the stair railings at corners to expedite his turns between floors.
However, despite the apartment being well-built, it was still old, and splinters occasionally jutted out from the wooden railings, instantly cutting his palms until they bled profusely.
But all this pain was drowned out by the sharp sound of the scissors closing. Driven by adrenaline, Leon darted around the stairwell like a blur, covering the distance from the fifth floor back to the lobby in mere breaths, shaking off the relentless pursuit of the old man.
Shit… Finally escaped!
Seeing the open door five steps away and the radiant sunshine outside, Leon staggered toward the exit. But just then, he tripped over something, losing balance and tumbling uncontrollably! Is this… a ball of yarn? The administrator matron’s knitting yarn? Recognizing the object tangling his feet, Leon hesitated momentarily, reaching to untangle it when he heard the Black Goat sigh in his mind.
“Farewell, kid, we’ll miss you.”
Wha—What are you saying?!
Realizing something was wrong, Leon abruptly looked up, his heart nearly leaping out of his throat! At the moment he was tripped by the yarn, the old man, sensing the prey’s movement like a spider on its web, followed the yarn embedded in the wall, wielding the giant scissors in hot pursuit! Shit! Seeing the blade already stretched wide, gleaming menacingly, Leon instinctively swung the shopping bag containing the goat head upward with all his might! “Clang!!!”
A thunderous sound akin to a cleaver hitting granite rang out. Leon felt his arms go limp, and like being rammed by a bull, he somersaulted several times backward, rolling out the Happiness Apartment’s door.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhh!”
“Our horns! They’re cracked!!”
“What the hell! You son of a ***! You ***!”

“Using me as a shield! Kid, this isn’t over! ***!”
Finally escaped… Just asking a few questions nearly cost him his life; working for the Clearing Bureau truly sucks ass…
Amidst the Black Goat’s furious telegrams filled with blocked words, Leon painfully raised his head, barely glancing back at the Happiness Apartment.
Seeing the sullen-faced old man standing at the entrance with scissors in hand but not pursuing further, Leon finally relaxed, raising his still bleeding right hand to give the stubborn old man the middle finger before collapsing back onto the street, gasping heavily under the glaring sun.
What a lousy Happiness Apartment! Feels like a haunted house! Never coming back here again!
