Chapter 13
The first-floor hall, which should have been bustling with people, now saw most of them swallowed by the icy floor tiles. The patients too weak to move due to lack of stamina had no strength left to break free and could only helplessly stretch their arms upward.
At a glance, the entire hall seemed like it was mixed with countless people struggling in agony, with arms reaching out everywhere, as if alive. The towering hands clutching desperately were like a living scroll of hell.
Perhaps because of the carpet covering, not directly touching the cold tiles, the VIP room on the fourth floor was slightly better off; the patients inside hadn’t been swallowed yet.
But seeing the situation in the corridor outside, neither the patients nor the nurses dared to step beyond the “safe zone” of the carpet, fearing they’d be buried alive under the tiles just like those in the corridor if they stepped out!
This definitely wouldn’t do!
Looking at the patients sinking deeper into the corridor, one of the older nurses anxiously glanced around and suddenly brightened upon spotting the window: “The window! We can escape through the window!”
“Right! Right! We can jump down!”
Hearing her words, the young nurse whose right-hand skin had been torn off shuddered all over, as if infused with some mysterious power, stood up from the carpet immediately, and said excitedly:
“It’s only the fourth floor! If we’re lucky, jumping might not kill us!”
“Wai… cough cough! Wait! No need to jump!”
Propping herself up from the bed, Anna hurriedly interrupted:
“The bedsheet, curtains… cough cough… and the sofa fabric! Just tie these together and find a strong spot to secure them…”
And we can safely climb down!
“I’ll do it!”
Understanding Anna’s meaning, the young nurse was overjoyed, ignoring her injured hand, tearing down the curtains in two swift moves, then rushing to the bedside in three strides and roughly dragging the still-coughing girl down.
“What are you doing!”
Not expecting her to act this way, the older nurse quickly supported Anna who almost fell and glared angrily at the young nurse: “She’s sick! And if she hadn’t stopped you, you would’ve jumped already!”
“I… I’m doing this for everyone to get out faster!”
Realizing she might have gone too far but clearly terrified by the bizarre situation outside, the young nurse, while tying bloody hands onto the bedsheet and curtains, stammered: “I… I’m getting married next month! I don’t want to die! It’s… it’s terrifying! This must be the demon’s trick! I absolutely refuse to die here!”
“Wait! Don’t go down yet!”
Seeing her about to tie one end of the “rope” to a cabinet nailed to the wall and throw the other end out, the older nurse couldn’t help but urgently shout:
“There’s still a patient! This girl is very ill! She doesn’t have the strength to hold onto the curtains! We must lower her down first before we leave!”
“Who cares… ah no!”
Under the older nurse’s glare, realizing that those upstairs could untie the “escape rope” after she went down, the young nurse’s expression turned awkward as she forced a smile:
“I mean… my hand hurts, I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold her… Look! You guys relax! Once I’m out, I’ll immediately get help for you!”
After saying that, without waiting for the other two to react, the young nurse clutched the blood-stained curtain and hastily climbed out the window, starting to descend little by little.
“……”
Damn! Watching her coworker unhesitatingly abandon them, the older nurse gritted her teeth and cursed silently, then helped the incessantly coughing Anna to the window, gently comforting her: “It’s fine she’s gone, child, listen carefully. I’ll tie one end of the curtain around your waist and slowly lower you down. Try to grab onto any protrusions on the outer wall, be careful not to fall…”
“AHHHH!!!”
At that moment, a scream full of panic rang out from outside the window, startling the older nurse who peeked out only to shockingly discover that the young nurse who had just descended was stuck on the second-floor exterior wall! No! More accurately, she had been swallowed by the hospital’s outer wall just like the patients in the corridor!
“Save… save me! Save me!”
How do I save you? Last time I managed to pull you back, but this time there’s truly nothing I can do…
Looking down at her terrified coworker, the older nurse sighed deeply, despair creeping into her eyes.
“Knock knock knock.”
When the two inside the room were at a loss, someone knocked on the glass door of the VIP room.
“Are you Anna?”
After confirming the room number, the bandaged woman immediately locked her gaze on the frail-looking girl and briskly walked over, succinctly stating:
“I’m your brother’s colleague. I’ve come to rescue you.”
Brother?! Hearing the bandaged woman’s words, the anxious look on Anna’s face eased somewhat.
Thank goodness! If she can rescue me, then my brother must be safe! But… why does my brother’s colleague dress so strangely? After observing the tall woman wrapped entirely in bandages and wearing an odd mask on her face, Anna gripped the middle-aged nurse’s hand and cautiously asked:
“Miss… um… Big Sister! If possible, could you also rescue her? If it weren’t for her taking care of me…”
“Yes.”
Glancing at the equally hopeful middle-aged nurse, the bandaged woman didn’t waste words, simply nodded, then led both to the window and…

“Hmm?”
Looking at the young nurse halfway “swallowed” by the outer wall, the bandaged woman frowned slightly and turned back to ask:
“Is she with you? Should we save her?”
Hearing that this strange woman in a black mask might save her, the young nurse on the wall immediately perked up, pleading with eyes full of hope:
“Yes yes yes! We’re together! You… please say something for me! Please say something!”
Watching the desperate plea in the young nurse’s eyes, the middle-aged nurse who was previously filled with resentment sighed, just about to say something when she felt her hand being tightly squeezed.
“No!”
To her surprise, the kind-hearted girl who had earlier allowed patients into her room despite the risks, now decisively shook her head without hesitation.
“She wanted to abandon us and run away. If saving her isn’t too much trouble, then please casually help her out. But if it’s dangerous, don’t bother. Just rescue this aunt beside me.”
“Hmm, understood.”
Glancing at the calm, rational girl who remained composed even amidst bizarre emergencies, the bandaged woman smiled faintly and nodded, then grabbed the curtain hanging by the window, tied it around the middle-aged nurse, held onto the window frame firmly, and extended her arm out.
To the astonishment of the remaining three women, this mysterious bandaged woman, sturdy enough to seem almost superhuman, lifted the middle-aged nurse weighing at least a hundred pounds straight out without touching the outer wall, purely through sheer arm strength.
After checking the situation inside again, the bandaged woman unwrapped the bandage from her wrist, packed the medicine from the bedside table, bundled it with the IV stand, and carried the astonished Anna out the window.
“Go find your brother!”
Gradually lowering Anna down, the bandaged woman leaned out and softly said:
“He’s safe now, he’s just over…”
“Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Four simultaneous explosions drowned out the bandaged woman’s advice. The cabinet tied to the curtain in the room trembled violently, and the four bolts nailed into the wall snapped off all at once!
Amidst the hysterical screams of the middle-aged nurse, Anna plummeted mid-air, and the metal cabinet, weighing well over three hundred pounds, crashed toward the bandaged woman’s back along the escape rope made from the curtains!
