Chapter 24. Anime Tropes
So, Miria has a family.
This sole fact made my brain nodes open, and I started to deduce what kind of tragedy she faced to turn into a devil.
Kenja no Mago is a cliche anime. The story itself isn’t too complicated. And as long as I follow the most common steps, then I can find the reason for her change without too much effort.
‘What could be the root cause?’
I stopped eating the meal, and started to think about it.
“What happened to him?”
Miria’s mother looked at Kurt, having a quiet and solemn look out of a sudden. One could see him thinking about something serious.
“It’s nothing. He gets absent-minded most of the time.”
It's been just a few days since Miria has been with Kurt, but it's enough for her to know him and his occasional habit of being absent minded.
"Kurt!"
She tapped him, making him snap out of his thoughts.
"Ah! Sorry, I was just a bit lost in thought."
"If you just want to think, you shouldn't have agreed to the meal."
"Miria, don't be too rude to your savior!"
Miria's mother scolded her, and I praised the mom inside my heart. That's right, mom. Scold her a bit more.
"He only saved me. It's nothing special."
"Miria!"
"Alright, I am sorry."
And with one shout from her father, a word of apology came out.
'Hehehe… It's good that I tried to have a meal with them.'
After the recovery, I decided to stay a bit more days and know both of Miria's parents at a personal level.
'And then I could take her hand from them.'
But Miria is right as well. I shouldn't waste this chance by thinking about the future possibilities.
'That's right. Rather than thinking about the future cause, I should use my effort to get closer with them.'
And with that, I stopped all my thoughts and participated in the family dinner with a smile.
"It's alright, uncle. I think Miria was kind of right. I shouldn't be absent minded."
"It's nothing, son. You can think as much as you want!"
Miria's father laughed as usual and covered for me.
"Yes. After all, you saved our daughter."
And after him came his mother, who smiled and forwarded the bowl of soup towards me.
"Thanks, aunty."
I took the spoonful and put it in my mouth.
'Hmm… it's delicious.'
It wasn't too fancy, but it contained that homey feeling in it. A mother's cooking, there is nothing better than that.
"Is it good?"
"Yes. I like it very much. I hope I can eat this delicious food each day."
I spoke my honest thoughts and took in one more spoon of the soup. But her next words made me throw out all the soup all over her. Because those words were something I didn't expect to come out from her.
"Then how about becoming my son-in-law?"
Poooh!
"Wh–"
"What!"
I threw up the soup with shock, but someone was even much in shock than me. Miria shouted loudly and couldn't believe what her parents were even speaking of.
"Why are you making such a fuss?"
"What do you mean by that! Why should I get married to him? He isn't even a man!"
Miria aren't you a bit too hard on me? I understand you want to mention me as a kid because of age, but still I have pride as a man from another world.
"He isn't a man? What are you talking about? He saved you from those demons. Isn't he a perfect man?"
The father spoke out holding his arms, depicting the figure of mine saving her from that calamity demon.
"But… I-I mean he hasn't come to his age…"
"So?"
"I mean…"
'Huh? Why is she losing the argument?'
I looked at Miria's and her parents' exchanges and couldn't wrap my head around it. My chronological age is around eight. And Miria is over seventeen, my double.
There is a double age difference between us. I thought she was making a pretty valid statement in front of her parents, about me being much smaller than her in age. Then, why it isn't working?
And then the line from her father opened my eyes.
"Isn't it normal to have a difference?"
And that's when I remembered that I am in a fantasy-medieval anime world. Marriages with age differences aren't that rare.
Even one of the S class members has a fiancée much older than him. And this moment made me think of it as a chance.
'I might be able to pull it off.'
The biggest difficulty to acquire Miria was to erase the age gap. I needed to make her conscious that I am not just a kid, but a man too.
She protected me for the first time, not because I was a man, but because I was a kid.
And since then, I didn't see her until the demon incident, and didn't get any chances to showcase manliness except for defeating that demon.
'I was thinking of joining her in a party and hunting together for relationship progress but because of this opportunity, I think I will get her more rapidly!'
And I have an amazing plan for it!
"Really? Do you want to have me as a son-in-law?"
With genuine joy and excitement, I rose up and asked them about it. But obviously my question made the girl beside me have a temper.
"You…"
But I have planned for it. A double victory.
(Stop it, Miria! I am helping you.)
"Wha?"
Suddenly, Miria heard a voice inside her mind which shocked a little bit.
(Don't be shocked. This is one of my magic - Mana Message.)
Mana Message. A spell copied from wuxia novels. They use energy - qi to talk through their minds. It's quite a convenient spell to use.
She turned her head towards me to confirm and I smirked at her, confirming the one behind it.
(How do you want to help me?)
She was calm enough to accept and asked in return.
(Let's act.)
(Huh? What do you mean?)
I was waiting for that question. I am going to use one of the most cliche anime tropes ever to win her heart and body.
(I mean, let's act as lovers.)
