Chapter 280: Advantage in alchemy
Eryndor glanced at the prices of the masters, and realised that those who had knowledge in the spatial department were currently out of his price range.
He was looking for a master in the spatial department, because the grove of sky reaching bamboo was of that element as well. It was only right to consult an expert in the same domain.
Well, I guess I need to earn more.
Before leaving the training camp to hunt for more beasts. He decided to check the other things in his checklist.
He glanced at the enormous mission board. A minute later his eyes narrowed.
There are no missions which need a disciple to go in the area of Whispering Well. That's good, one thing checked off.
This time he took as long as five minutes to read all the missions in detail, and even scoured through the notice board.
From the various signs, the Training Camp is already aware of the beast tide forming early this year.
They also seem to be aware of the coalition of minor sects in the area around them. Oddly enough, it seems that the Training Camp is investigating this.
Is it a more serious thing than I thought?
Eryndor spent more time reading all the notices in detail but apart from a warning about the wandering cultivator which caused cultivation deviations, there was no mention of other things.
After being convinced that he couldn't find any trace of other unusual situations, he left the Training Camp.
Maybe there are other groups in the Training Camp which are privy to more information than the regular disciples?
Currently, he only knew about the Bureau of Anomaly Control and a few other groups.
Naturally, he witnessed the former's forming notice right in front of his eyes, and the latter from the memories of the various disciples.
The other groups were -
Beastrend Division - They were made up of disciples especially specialising in fighting against beasts. This division worked the hardest when it was time of beast tide.
They deployed all possible methods to lessen the strength of the beast tide, divert it, delay it, or even dismantle it completely.
Dao Committee - Also known as the genius committee. They consisted of disciples who had high control of Qi and could learn cultivation arts at a much higher pace. They also had abnormal mastery in their own weapons.
Majority of those in this committee were also in the rankings.
It was said that they often sparred with each other to take inspiration from the other party. Common disciples couldn't join because then there was no way for the geniuses to profit from them.
If a genius joined, they could spar and exchange pointers. But what could they do with a normal disciple? Nothing.
Lastly, there was a Librarium Circle.
They consisted of disciples who were incredibly knowledgeable. This group didn't look at the combat prowess, but purely at the knowledge the disciple held.
It could range from ancient history, lost languages, cultivation arts, information about the three domains of mastery, and much more.
Eryndor also confirmed another fact.
Knowledge about Alchemy, Smithing, and Array Formation is really too rare.
People who already had proficiency in this field weren't too willing to pass on the knowledge so as to not let the competition grow.
Every additional person who knew information about this domain meant a decrease in their own profits.
However, this was only the case with the lower rung of the society.
At a higher level, the big organizations could simply utilize their massive resource spending capacity to hire people to study the effects of various plants, ores, minerals, and whatnot.
They could then compile that information and form a group of researchers so that they could research new pill recipes, potion recipes, smithing techniques, fire controlling methods, and various array formations.
A single person or a small organization could definitely not do this, therefore the alchemists of that region weren't willing to increase their own competition.
However, even if the big organizations had people under them who were proficient in these three domains of mastery, it didn't mean they were willing to let them go.
Exactly for this reason, the Bureau of Anomaly Control didn't have any alchemist under them when they displayed their intention to form a group in the Training Camp.
They planned to recruit the local alchemists.
However, it threw a wrench in their plans when the only alchemist of the Training Camp didn't accept their invitation.
Now, they could only try to recruit alchemists from the surrounding area, or train one among the disciples.
However, even if they had information, it would be difficult to train a disciple from scratch because being an alchemist wasn't only about information.
It was also about talent and control.
Not everyone had an instinctive understanding of fire, how it moved, how it affected various areas, its heat at different layers and so on.
Not everyone had the comprehension and deduction capability to understand how the different ingredients would combine if they didn't have prior information about it.
Not everyone had the required amount of Qi control to delicately control the various ingredients and fire according to what was needed, without any mistakes.
Therefore, it wasn't only about information.
After getting all these pieces of information, Eryndor realised that he really had a massive advantage if he tried to get in this group through the route of trying to be an alchemist.
I don't know if I have a good talent, but I sure do have good control. I can find out what 'good' control means so I don't overplay my hand and invite suspicion.
It would be terrible if forty percent comes in the grading category of 'good', and I display fifty percent.
I also already have a huge amount of information regarding alchemy. As long as the majority of the ingredients found on Earth can be found here, I can easily display that I have sufficient knowledge in this regard.
Eryndor heaved a sigh, and began walking towards the forest once again.
It was once again getting dark, but he had no intention to sleep.
