Chapter 71: I Want This Castle
On the surface of Mars, a pulse of energy rippled outward as the barren red landscape transformed. Lush vegetation and towering trees spread across the terrain. At the same time, an enormous energy dome, spanning an area the size of the United States, concealed the region from outside detection, including Earth's satellites and deep-space sensors.
Within a vast field of neatly trimmed grass, the fleet hovered inches above the ground before landing smoothly. As the Evenstar's ramp descended, Alex, Arwen, and Luna stepped out, followed by the entire ship's crew.
"It's so quiet," Alex mused, gazing at the transformed land. "Maybe I should add animals?"
"You should," Arwen agreed. "It would feel lonely if only elves lived here."
Luna tilted her head thoughtfully. "How about magical creatures?"
Before Alex could respond, Lily flopped onto his head. "Hehe, normal animals are fine! How about dinosaurs?"
Alex raised an eyebrow. "And you call that normal?"
"Dinosaurs don't have magic," Lily pouted.
Alex chuckled. "If you put it that way… Dinosaurs, huh? I never considered creating them before." He stroked his chin, deep in thought. "Well, let's establish the base first."
Extending his hand, Alex closed his eyes and channeled his origin energy. He visualized the planetary union's colony base from the Orville universe, where he had once scanned Earth. A moment later, a massive complex materialized on a flat stretch of land.
Sleek, white, spherical buildings arranged like scattered beads, some fused together into larger structures, emerged from nothing. The colony included docking stations, crew quarters, research labs, medical facilities, manufacturing plants, and everything else needed for a self-sustaining settlement.
Satisfied, Alex turned to his elven crew. "Familiarize yourselves with the base. This will be your new home."
The elves nodded, dispersing to explore their new environment.
Later, aboard a shuttle, Luna gazed out in awe as Earth came into view. The tiny blue planet, suspended in the vastness of space, filled her heart with an overwhelming sense of wonder. Though this wasn't precisely her Earth, it still felt like home.
"Can people below see us? Through telescopes, maybe?" she asked.
Alex shook his head with a chuckle. "No, we're hidden, like wearing an invisibility cloak."
"Oh, I see," Luna nodded, her lips curling into a small smile.
The shuttle descended, landing gently on the lawn outside Alex's villa. The group stood together, overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
Luna turned to Arwen and hugged her tightly. "Goodbye, Sister Arwen. Thank you for everything. Come visit me, okay? My father would love to meet you."
Arwen smiled warmly, patting Luna's head. "Of course. I'd love to meet him, and your friends too. I also want to see the famous castle where you study magic."
"Hmmm," Luna purred happily, nuzzling into the embrace.
Alex ruffled her hair, exchanging a knowing look with Arwen. "Time to go."
Holding Luna's hand, he teleported them back to Hogwarts, appearing just outside the Ravenclaw Tower. A few students lounged in the common room, but none noticed their presence, Alex had veiled them in a subtle distortion.
"You'll be okay, right?" Alex asked as they stopped by the stairs leading to the girls' dormitory.
Luna nodded. "Yeah. Come see me again, okay? With Arwen Sister too." She hesitated for a moment, then gently grasped his sleeve.
Alex smiled. "I promise. You'll see me again before you know it."
Luna beamed and skipped up the stairs, disappearing into the dormitory. As she did, Alex's figure dissolved into specks of golden starlight.
Back at his villa, Alex sat across from three men in suits, reviewing a stack of documents. These contained property listings, alternatives suggested after complications arose with his purchase of Castle Ruddervoorde in Belgium.
"I believe we can find a property of the same caliber within the country," a representative from Goldman Sachs suggested carefully. "A location where you'd have absolute control."
Alex smirked, catching the implication. "The government really wants to keep my money within its borders, huh? I thought America was supposed to be the land of freedom."
A subtle pressure filled the room. Though Alex's voice remained calm, an invisible force weighed on the three men. They exchanged nervous glances, sweat forming on their brows.
Alex flipped to the last page and paused. The image before him depicted a majestic castle reminiscent of Neuschwanstein perched atop a scenic landscape. He turned the page toward them. "This. I want this one."
The three executives studied the property carefully. One from J.P. Morgan finally spoke. "Mr. Anderson, this estate is still under construction. The roads are unpaved, and it lacks modern infrastructure."
Considering Alex's wealth, they expected him to acquire a fully furnished, state-of-the-art mansion. Instead, he was choosing an unfinished castle.
Alex leaned back, unbothered. "There's no issue, is there? I want it secured immediately. Whatever is missing, I'll handle it myself."
The room fell silent for a moment before one of them nodded. "Understood, sir. The necessary documents should be ready in two days." He extended his hand.
Alex clasped it, giving the man a knowing smile. He saw through him, that this wasn't just an ordinary banker but a financial titan with deep government ties.
"As for the taxes, there's no need to avoid paying it. I don't lack that money."
They discussed the specifics further until the sunset.
As the three men exited the villa, the Goldman Sachs representative muttered, "He must really like castles… maybe a childhood dream?"
J.P. Morgan's man chuckled. "Well, he's still young. Hasn't even hit twenty yet."
The third man, the quietest among them, rebuked them with a smirk. "Gentlemen, it's unwise to discuss clients behind their backs. Whatever his reasons, they're none of our concern."
They nodded in agreement before parting ways, their luxury cars disappearing into the night.
