HunterxHunter: I Became Stronger After Death

Chapter 24: The Orchard Keeper

Ten days later.

Moro arrived in the city where Heaven's Arena was located.

In this world, airships were the main mode of transportation, less efficient than airplanes from his previous life.

The journey from Yorknew City to the continent across the sea had taken Moro a full ten days.

Fortunately, the country where Heaven's Arena was located had minimal entry requirements; otherwise, even more time would have been wasted.

This nation seemed to treat Heaven's Arena as a major economic hub, with most incoming travelers clearly heading there.

Upon entering the city, Moro's first impression wasn't the towering marvel of Heaven's Arena standing at the city's center, but the sheer number of people.

No matter where he looked—shops, souvenir stands, food packaging, or the clothing and backpacks of passersby—everything seemed to carry some connection to martial arts.

Standing amidst this throng, Moro could feel why this place was nicknamed the "Fighting Paradise."

It wasn't surprising that over 4,000 fighters registered at Heaven's Arena every single day.

The towering spire was like a pyramid of fame and fortune, luring countless people to climb higher.

One didn't even need to reach the top of the tower—just achieving a certain height could bring fame, flowers, and applause.

Such allure was hard for most people to resist.

Immersed in the unique atmosphere of the city, Moro couldn't help but marvel silently before heading toward the city center.

Heaven's Arena was a 991-meter-tall tower, consisting of 251 floors, making it the fourth tallest building in the world.

Every year, it attracted over 1 billion spectators, with ticket sales alone generating unfathomable revenue.

Moro walked straight to the registration area, intent on signing up.

At the moment, the registration lines stretched endlessly.

With a rough estimate, Moro calculated that there were at least 2,000 people in line.

The surrounding plaza featured statues and other attractions, which had become popular photo spots for tourists.

As a result, both the registration area and the surrounding facilities were packed with a sea of people.

Amidst the noise coming from every direction, Moro quickly grew impatient. He had no intention of waiting in line.

He stepped out of the queue and walked directly toward the registration desk.

As he moved, he casually glanced at the people in line, his sharp eyes scanning for any traces of aura.

Ordinary person. Ordinary person. Ordinary person...

Walking past the long line, he didn't sense a single nen user.

Of course, it was possible that some were masking their aura to appear as ordinary people, but the likelihood was low.

Before long, Moro reached the registration desk. Out of more than 2,000 people, not a single one had been a nen user.

Nen, despite being a skill anyone could learn with training, remained exceedingly rare given the sheer size of the world's population.

In Heaven's Arena, it was likely that most nen users were concentrated on the 200th floor and above.

That gives me an idea...

Standing near the line, Moro rested his hand on his chin, his eyes narrowing in thought.

If even a place like Heaven's Arena has so few nen users, why not become an "orchard keeper"? I could "baptize" participants who meet certain criteria...

I could artificially create new nen users.

Then, when these "apples" ripen, I could pick them off in the ring.

Lost in thought, Moro didn't notice the curious stares from those around him.

His blatant scrutiny while walking past the line hadn't gone unnoticed, drawing the attention of many contestants.

Some hot-headed individuals initially wanted to step out of line and teach him a lesson.

But when they locked eyes with Moro, they felt an inexplicable pressure and wisely held back.

Still, they didn't forget his face.

Now, seeing him stand near the registration desk deep in thought, those at the front of the line couldn't help but wonder what he was up to.

Even the registration staff glanced at him curiously.

A few moments later, Moro concluded his train of thought.

The "orchard keeper" plan seemed feasible, but he decided to wait until he was officially registered before deciding whether to implement it.

"Let's register first."

Moro walked directly to a burly man filling out his registration form.

The man noticed Moro approaching and instinctively tensed, his expression wary.

"What... do you want?"

As soon as the words left his mouth, he realized he'd overreacted. This was Heaven's Arena's registration area—surely no one would cause trouble here, right?

Standing before him, Moro pulled out a stack of cash and said politely, "Hello. I'd like to buy your spot for 1 million jenny. Would you be willing?"

"Huh?"

The man froze, his pen suspended mid-air.

The registration clerk remained expressionless, refraining from intervening.

Meanwhile, those in line behind the man stared wide-eyed.

1 million jenny.

It wasn't an astronomical sum, but it wasn't pocket change either. To earn that much at Heaven's Arena, one would need to fight their way to the 100th floor.

Realizing all he had to do was give up his spot and rejoin the line, the man quickly agreed.

"Deal."

He shoved his pen into Moro's hand, grabbed the cash, and walked back to the end of the line without a second glance.

Moro took the pen and naturally stepped up to the registration desk.

"Welcome to Heaven's Arena. Please fill out your details here," the clerk said smoothly, replacing the man's form with a new one for Moro.

"Thank you."

Moro smiled at the clerk and quickly filled out the form.

Under the section for combat experience, he didn't exaggerate, honestly stating that he had none.

After all, one of his goals in coming to Heaven's Arena was to gain such experience. There was no need to cut corners.

Once registered, Moro headed to the first floor of Heaven's Arena.

As a tower-shaped structure, the first floor had the largest area, housing 16 arenas for initial matches.

Every day, newly registered contestants competed here in preliminary rounds.

Moro found a seat and sat down.

His arrival immediately attracted the attention of a small group nearby.

They had noticed his unusual behavior earlier at the registration area and were surprised to see him here now.

Ignoring the stares, Moro focused on the battles happening in the arena.

"Huh, not bad."

Watching two contestants exchange blows in a well-matched fight, Moro's interest was piqued.

Putting nen aside, some of this world's martial artists truly had impressive skills.
