Hunter X Hunter: Tombbound Power

Chapter 310: 310: The Effects of the Sonata of Darkness’s Movements

The conversation about the Sonata of Darkness revealed some intriguing information that Ronnel had yet to uncover fully.

"Oh?"

Hearing Emuksu's words, Ronnel's interest piqued. It seemed the mysteries surrounding the Sonata of Darkness were deep enough to warrant such a reaction from Emuksu.

Both men lit cigarettes as they moved into the living room, where their discussion continued. As Ronnel settled on the couch, Emuksu wasted no time diving into the details.

"First, let's talk about the legend of the Sonata of Darkness," Emuksu began, his tone animated. "I used the [Legend Authenticity Meter] to confirm its origins. Turns out, the Sonata was indeed crafted by multiple Demon Kings."

So, it really was the work of demons.

Ronnel had suspected as much, but hearing confirmation stirred something within him. However…

"Wait. Multiple Demon Kings?"

Emuksu nodded, a sly grin on his face. "Yes. While the Sonata is often referred to as a solo composition by a single devil, that's only part of the truth."

He leaned forward, his eyes gleaming. "The Sonata consists of four movements, each played on a different instrument: piano, violin, flute, and harp. Four Demon Kings collaborated, each responsible for crafting one movement. They imbued their own abilities and restrictions into the music, ultimately merging the movements into what we now know as the Sonata of Darkness."

He gestured toward Ronnel. "The movement you have is the violin piece. Its ability enhances or weakens Nen abilities, but the restriction is that it comes with an imprisonment clause—absolute control over freedom."

Ronnel nodded slowly, processing the information.

"But that's not all," Emuksu continued. "Thanks to the flute piece you described and some notes I gathered from Melody's experience, I've pieced together additional details about the Sonata's other movements."

Intrigued, Ronnel sat up straight, signaling Emuksu to go on.

"The flute movement grants new Nen abilities to anyone who listens or plays it. The power is immense—you can use the abilities freely. But the cost is steep: your health."

"Health?" Ronnel echoed.

"Exactly. The stronger the ability you want, the more of your health you sacrifice—appearance, organs, even your lifespan. And if your body can't handle the cost, well…"

"Death," Ronnel finished grimly.

Emuksu nodded. "Right. Melody once told me about her experience with the flute Sonata. She played one movement with a friend while drunk. Her friend died instantly, and she was left with her enhanced hearing at the cost of her original form."

Ronnel's gaze sharpened. "Do you know where the other movements are?"

Emuksu smirked. "I can confirm two locations: one is the ferry hall, and the other…" He pointed to Ronnel. "…is in your hands."

Ronnel rolled his eyes. "You could've just said you didn't know."

"Melody might have more details," Emuksu said, shrugging. "But convincing her won't be easy. She wants to destroy the Sonata entirely to prevent anyone from suffering like she did."

Ronnel frowned, weighing his options. For now, he pushed the thought aside and focused on Emuksu's next revelation.

"The harp movement, currently stored in the ferry hall, has a different ability: it amplifies luck."

"Luck?"

"That's right. Playing the harp Sonata increases the performer's luck exponentially for a set duration."

Ronnel's eyes narrowed in thought. If such a movement existed, its potential could be game-changing. But the cost…

The Sonata of Darkness's power was undeniable, but the risks were just as severe.
