Chapter 278: Chapter 278: Things of No Value Must Be Destroyed!
Kaizen's gaze swept across the auditorium, his expression distant.
Scattered among the audience were young fighters, nobles, and commoners, but his focus was elsewhere—on a little girl and a middle-aged woman.
"Altan, hack into all surveillance cameras. I need eyes on the entire venue."
Without hesitation, Altan complied. For most people, hacking even with top-tier technology would be a daunting task. But for Altan, it was effortless. That was why Kaizen valued Altan's abilities more than those of Raiken or Akutagawa Ryunosuke.
The opening ceremony finally concluded.
The stars of the event began to leave, signaling the start of the first stage of the Nirvana Conference. One by one, the contestants stepped into the ring. Some were Nen users, while others were just ordinary fighters. Among them were nobles, commoners, even royalty. The crowd watched with enthusiasm, their excitement mirroring that of spectators in Heavens Arena.
Time passed, and then—
BOOM!
A deafening explosion erupted—not from the ring, but from the audience. A powerful shockwave sent dozens of bodies flying. By the time they crashed to the ground, they were nothing but mangled corpses.
Panic spread instantly. Screams filled the air as spectators trampled over one another, trying to escape. Chaos took hold of the entire auditorium.
Kaizen's expression darkened.
He had anticipated an attack from the remnants of Taris. He had even planned to use the commotion as a distraction to steal Tessia. But he hadn't expected this level of destruction.
Previously, Dominica had dismissed the troublemakers from Taris Kingdom as insignificant. The Fiora royal family was vastly superior in strength—Kaizen had assumed any uprising would be swiftly crushed.
But now?
One explosion was followed by another. The entire venue was spiraling out of control.
"This doesn't make sense," Kaizen muttered, frowning. "The Fiora royal family was prepared for this. How could a few remnants from Taris cause this much mayhem?"
Even Zoldyck Manor, if placed in a similar situation, would never allow things to reach this point.
It was absurd.
But Kaizen didn't waste time dwelling on it. He used the pandemonium to seize his opportunity—Tessia was his now.
The middle-aged woman didn't notice Kaizen and Tessia vanishing into the crowd. By the time she realized Tessia was gone, her face paled.
Altan silently approached her, slipped a phone from her pocket, injected intrusion software into it, and then returned it unnoticed. The next moment, Altan vanished into the shadows.
Kaizen, holding Tessia by the hand, moved swiftly through the city. Tessia, however, showed no fear—only excitement.
"Are you going to teach me how to shine?" she asked eagerly.
"That's right. I'll teach you later."
Kaizen allowed himself a small smile. But then, as if by instinct, he glanced over his shoulder.
A figure was trailing them.
A Nen user.
Kaizen's eyes flickered with calculation. Without hesitation, he turned into an alleyway. The pursuer hesitated, then followed at a jog.
"Human trafficker! Put the girl down!"
The young man's voice was firm, his stance tense. His aura flared—a decent display, but nowhere near Kaizen's level. The gap was immense.
Kaizen didn't even need to use any real effort.
He moved.
A flash of motion—and suddenly, he was behind the young man.
THUD!
With a precise strike to the neck, the pursuer collapsed.
Kaizen dragged the unconscious body deeper into the alley. Tessia watched with curiosity.
A quick search of the young man's belongings confirmed Kaizen's suspicion—he wasn't part of a trafficking ring. Just an overzealous noble from the Kingdom of Fiora, newly initiated into Nen.
Kaizen sighed. "So, you saw me take the girl and assumed I was a trafficker? Your self-righteousness got the better of you."
He had initially thought the pursuer might be a core member of the human trafficking network. Instead, he was just a fool.
Leaving the young man unconscious, Kaizen took Tessia to a nearby hotel and rented a suite.
"Nen," Kaizen instructed, activating Gyo to examine Tessia thoroughly. After ensuring there was nothing off about her, he relaxed on the sofa.
"Tessia, sit down."
Tessia complied without hesitation, completely at ease. She seemed utterly unfazed by the situation.
"Can you teach me how to shine now?"
"You can learn it, but Nen requires training. I'll help you with that."
Tessia tilted her head. "Will it take long?"
"That depends on you. Some people learn quickly. Others take longer."
Tessia's eyes sparkled. "How long do you think I'll need?"
Kaizen shrugged. "It's up to you."
Then he added, "By the way, I gave your mother money. That means you have to listen to me now. Understand? I've bought you."
Tessia blinked in confusion. "But I didn't see you pay her."
"I transferred the money digitally. If you don't believe me, I can let you listen to the transaction confirmation."
Kaizen played a recording.
Of course, it was fake—expertly forged by Altan. But Tessia couldn't tell the difference.
She listened closely, then nodded. "That's my mother's voice."
Her expression turned serious.
"Then I am now your wife."
Kaizen stared at her. "Not a wife. I bought you, but not as a wife."
"But my mother said I was born to be sold as someone's wife. If you don't want me, then I have no value."
Tessia's voice was firm, her gaze unwavering.
"Things of no value must be destroyed."
A long silence stretched between them.
Kaizen exhaled. "…Call yourself whatever you want. Just follow my instructions and train."
"Yes."
Just then, his phone buzzed.
A call was coming in.
